Part Four

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"This is the place," Whistler said.

"He's going to know what I am. And if he doesn't, his slayer will."

"Buffy didn't know for several months. And she's the best slayer I've seen for a while. Calm down Angel, we'll make it work."

Whistler rang the bell. They stood there for a few moments until the door opened. A young man in his early twenties stood there. He had shaggy brown hair, and young looking brown eyes. As a contrast to Giles, he was dressed simply, in jeans and a brown T-shirt.

"Hello," the man said with a softened British accent. "You must be Whistler and Angel. Mr. Giles called and told me you were coming."

"Ain't you kinda young to be a Watcher?" Whistler asked.

"I may be fresh out of the Academy, but I assure you that I know my stuff. I've been here in the States for several years. Since the Slayer showed up here, some of the Watchers in training were sent here as back up. If you don't want my help, you are free to leave."

"No," Angel said quickly. "Sorry. It's just; we got too used to Giles. That's all. We need your help."

"Right. Come on in and I'll see what I have."

Angel and Whistler followed Nathaniel into the house. It was a pretty empty house, and despite what Nathaniel had said about living in the States for a couple of years, the house looked unlived in. Neither Angel nor Whistler said anything about it though. Both of them noticed the half-empty pizza boxes and dirty clothes strewn around the room, but neither of them said a word. Nathaniel led them into a small room full of boxes of books. There were also shelves, but they didn't hold as many books as the boxes did.

"So," Nathaniel said. "Tell me about this Dark Lord."

"I dunno," Whistler said. "All I know is this woman was mumbling something about blood and a Dark Lord, and then she was hit by a bus."

"Dark Lord is used in reference to many demons. It's sort of a generic term. Anything more?"

"She had a tattoo."

Whistler handed Nathaniel a piece of paper that he had drawn the symbol on. Nathaniel looked at it for a minute.

"I seem to remember seeing this in one of my books....Let's see...."

Angel watched as Nathaniel searched through a box of books. Like the other rooms that they had passed through, this one looked impersonal and unlived in. The walls were grey and the shelves were generic. It was such a gloomy room.

"Here we are," Nathaniel said, showing them the open pages of the book. "Dramoco is a demon of the high class. He is one of the originals that supposedly reigned when Earth was literally a hell. His name actually means blood in a language so old it has been long forgotten. Ah, according to my books, his sign represents his desire to bring hell back to Earth. The good of the sign is being overcome by the evil. He corrupts humans to do his bidding."

"But why would he want a woman to get hit by a bus?" Whistler said.

"Can we pretend to understand demons? Most of them are just insane."

"Not all. Some of 'em are just ruggedly handsome brutes."

"Pardon?"

"Never mind. Look, I'm just saying, if this Dramoco wants a hell on Earth, he might not want to kill the humans. Let them wait 'til he reigns again."

"I don't know. I only know what my books say. It could be that he can't fully use them until they are dead. If he is here, we are in grave danger. It means that he is growing more powerful by the day. He is one of the originals, his power was great to begin with."

"Great. Just what we need, another demon bent on hell on earth."

"Just so long as I don't have to go again," Angel said quietly.

"I beg your pardon?" Nathaniel asked.

"Hell, not a pleasant place. So we need to figure out how he's gaining power?"

"Yes, and soon. This says that Dramoco is most powerful on nights of the full moon and the new moon. The full moon is only a few nights away."
