Author's Notes: This takes place after Becoming Part Two and part of the end of Faith Hope and Trick. Just imagine that the rest of third season didn't happen. This is just my take on how Angel could have escaped.

Prologue

"Good night sweet prince, and flights of angels sing thee to thy rest!"-Hamlet
A sudden pain shot through his body and his mind went blank. Angel looked up with a confused look on his face. What was going on? Then he saw her with a sword raised.
"Buffy?" Angel said through tears. "What's going on?
His mind was filled with darkness, but there was something there, something he needed to know.
There was a look on Buffy's face that he didn't like. She looked as confused as he was. And there was such a sad look on her face, along with fading anger. She hesitated, as if she didn't want to lower the sword the sword and looked at him.
"Angel?" she whispered.
"Where are we? I-I don't remember."
A light suddenly appeared in Buffy's eyes. She lowered the sword slowly. She looked shook to the core.
"Angel?" she whispered again.
"You're hurt," Angel softly replied.
He reached out gently and touched her arm. She winced slightly, then suddenly was falling into his arms. He embraced her tightly saying,
"Buffy, why do I feel like I haven't seen you in months? Oh, my God, everything's so muddled, I--."
He grabbed onto her even more tightly. There was something in his mind that was bubbling to the surface, but he didn't want to see it, couldn't see it. Angel kissed Buffy on the shoulder. She shuddered in his arms and he realized she was crying hard. He was aware of something happening behind him. Fogged memories helped him to know what it was.
Behind him Acathla let out a low rumble. Buffy opened her eyes and stared in shock at something behind him. Buffy let go of Angel and looked up into his face. Angel didn't quite get it.
"What's happening?" he whispered.
"Shh," Buffy whispered back. "Don't worry about it."
She brushed her fingers over his lips and across his cheek. She placed her hand on his cheek and kissed him softly. He returned the kiss eagerly, happy to be in her arms, and it became more passionate. He felt a wind swirling around them, and even that pulled at his memories. He knew what was happening, but his mind wouldn't let him see.
Buffy broke off the kiss and looked deeply into Angel's eyes.
She whispered very softly "I love you."
Angel smiled, everything was alright
He whispered back "I love you."
She touched his lips with her fingers again.
"Close your eyes," she said softly.
She nodded reassuringly, so he closed his eyes. She kissed him again gently. Angel could taste her tears. He felt her step away from him. Angel wondered again what was going on, when suddenly his chest was alive with pain. He opened his eyes to see Buffy sobbing, the sword she had had in her hands now in his side. He felt something pulling at him. Some power drawing him. Suddenly the memories came flooding into his mind. He knew what he had done. The horror of it all increased his pain. He reached out in one last hope that she would save him.
"Buffy..." he said softly, his hope draining away
The power of Acaltha sucked him in. Angel felt it take him to hell. He thought briefly that it was justice after all. He let himself be dragged there, then everything went painfully black.
