The one time where the Slayerettes almost found out that there was ANYTHING between Cordelia and Spike was a pretty close call.

They were all at the Bronze; Cordy, Willow, Xander, Buffy and Oz. All of a sudden, Buffy stiffened and ran to the entrance.

“You want me? Let’s take this outside, Spike.”

“You think I’m here for you, Slayer? Get out of my way.” He shoved her aside and walked to the table where the Slayerettes sat dumbfounded. He stood near Cordelia, outstretched his arm and asked: “Will you dance with me?” She gave a little nod, placed her hand in his and followed him to a part of the dance floor that the Slayerettes couldn’t see. They began to dance, holding each other close. Neither spoke for a while.

“Lee, I have to tell you something.” Spike said.

“Lee?” She raised her head from his chest.

“Well, yes. You know, Cor-dee-lee-ah. Lee.”

“Alright, but only you can call me that.”

“Of course.” She relaxed and leaned against him again.

“What was it you wanted to tell me?”

“I love you.” She didn’t raise her head, but she couldn’t stop a few tears from forming in her eyes.

“What are we going to do, Spike?”

“I don’t know, love.” They shared a soft kiss, but Spike turned away, and began to walk away.

“I love you.” Cordelia said. Spike turned back, took her in his arms and kissed her again, not as softly this time.

“I have to go.” He walked away, leaving a teary-eyed Cordelia by herself on the dance floor. She returned to the Slayerette table.

“What was THAT about?” Xander asked.

“Nothing… he was just reminding me of something I learned at the mansion. I’m heading home. Will, come with me?”

“Yeah, sure Cordy.”

“You’ll be okay by yourselves?” Buffy asked.

“Yeah, I’m sure no vampires will attack us.” Cordelia responded. On the way home, she told Willow what had happened. She walked Willow to her house, not sure that they wouldn’t attack her when she wasn’t with her. When she got home, she cried herself to sleep.

After he left the Bronze, he waited for a minute to see who he knew he would. He followed her home, making sure no harm came to her. When she got to her house, he climbed and sat at the branch outside her window, and watched her cry in her bed, wishing more than anything that he could go to her.
