Part Nine
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Zenora dumped Buffy into the backseat of her car. Then, she drove back to Mono City, where she had took on a waitressing job, and where she met Buffy. She drove there to rendezvous with Drusilla.
She desperately hoped Buffy would kill Angelica, before she regained her full strength, when she becomes unstoppable.
The day had retreated, letting the night rule the Earth, when they got there. Zenora drove through Main Street, then turned right at a road branching off. She arrived at a modern-looking concrete-built building that had such a glamorous outer appearance, it looked like it belonged in Vegas or Reno.
It was the bar/restaurant she was to meet Drusilla at. Sherry's, it was called.
She got to the backseat, and shook Buffy, trying to wake her. Buffy stirred, but did not wake. I wonder what's so strong in the pods that does this to people. Zenora thought.
She got out. Dru's plan had been ruined. She desperately hoped Dru had a Plan B.
There's only one way to find out... Zenora entered the bar.
* * *
Spike knew Drusilla always goes to Sherry's on Thursday night, capturing prey for herself, now that she's recovered.
And that's where she will die. Spike thought.
He took out a gun. A sleak, midnight-black gun. It weighed less than a half a pound and spanned less than half a foot, yet fires with the accuteness of one twice its size.
He took out a box of bullets. Special bullets. Made especially by the Assasins to kill vampires. There was a sliver of wood down the center of each bullet, the wood also buldged through a hole through one end of the bullet.
He looked admiringly at his weapon. He had spent five million for it. And he had planned for it to work.
He dropped it in the pockets of his jacket. Then, he headed into Sherry's.
* * *
Inside Sherry's:
Rock music played in the air. Colored lights shone from special light sources at the ceiling. Laughter sounded from private booths. Drunk jokes and voices sounded from the bar.
Above all this was a drab veil, consisting physically of cigarette smoke, and spiritually of a waitinging entity. This veil moved with great agility, sneaking into people's conversations and out again, without being seen. It eavesdropped impishly on people's thoughts. And it caused harm to all those it opposed.
Zenora had found Drusilla. Drusilla had been at her usual booth, concealed behind all the action, near the back, the most deserted section of Sherry's. She had been seducing a hypnotised man when she arrived.
Drusilla would have feasted on him, if not for Zenora's interruption.
"There's this problem." Zenora said.
Dru glared at her.
"Buffy's... a little drunk... and unconscious now." Zenora said.
"What?" Drusilla scrunched her face up, agonized that her plan faltered.
"Drusilla, there's no time to pity ourselves. We've got to form another plan!" Zenora insisted.
"There's no way we could possibly kill Angelica, now..." Drusilla moaned. A strange light flicked on in her eyes.
"Maybe tomorrow?" Zenora asked.
"No, that would be too late!"
"Oh yea... the Resurrection... tomorrow?... oh..."
Drusilla crumpled up her face, then covered them with her hands. "Spike..." She moaned. Her sobbing sounded vaguely like laughter.
Suddenly, Dru dropped her hands from her face.
An instant later, her eyes buldged out. Her mouth rounded, in a surprised gasp. She had been shot.
An instant later, she died. She exploded into a thosand million pieces. There was no blood, no gore, no deassemblation except for the freeing of the atoms that had formed Drusilla.
Zenora stood there, surprised, aghast.
She heard metal hit the ground. She bent down, a second before a bullet wheezed by the place her head had been.
She found a bullet, a bullet with a single shread of wood down its center. And from that, she knew that someone had wanted Drusilla and her dead.
She heard a whooshing sound. She jumped left a second before it sliced the air where her body had been before. She scanned the room, desperately searching for the assasin.
But it was no use. The smoke had become too dense. It had become too thick.
It was as if the smoke was trying to suffocater her senses, trying to handicap her, letting her become easy an easy target for the predator hunting her.
It was as if the smoke were a cloak, trying to shroud itself around her, trying to encase her.
Suddenly, a bullet came at her. She didn't have time to duck.
She saw the last moments of her life in slow-motion. She saw the bullet coming closer, and closer. She saw the point of wood growing bigger and bigger. It came and struck.
* * *
She felt herself die, she felt her atoms start to fall apart, start to fly away, a process all dying vampires had to go through. But, she didn't feel them leave and go off in an infinate amount of directions.
She only felt a strange cocooning sensation, a strange power-causing procedure that happened right after her vision became blank.
She felt that strange wrapped and trapped feeling... and then nothing.
* * *
Spike aimed for the red head he assumed to be Zenora.
Syphil had told him about Zenora and Drucilla teaming up. Syphil had insisted that Spike kill Zenora along with Dru.
And he did... or so he thought.
He had saw the bullet cut into Zenora's flesh. He had saw her eyes bulge out, a process he's seen countless times in slaining enemy vampires. He had also saw a strange peacefullness in her eyes. He had also been aware that his vision had been clouded by smoke...
So how had he been abled to see her to such fine detail?
His attention was taken away when the smoke shrouded around him started to gather up in the location he last saw the detailed silohoutte of Zenora.
Actually, the smoke filling the whole restaurant concentrated onto that one spot. It became so thick he could not see through it. He looked elsewhere and could now see clearly around him.
As the smoke concentrated around that spot, a strange metaphoric thought flew through his mind. The smoke's become a blanket... a comforter, covering, holding Zenora.
He waited a long time, sitting alone in a booth.
Watching. Waiting for the smoke to clear.
After a few hours, it did.
But Zenora never exploded.
She merely disappeared, along with the smoke.
* * *
Spike stumbled out of the restaurant.
It was 3 AM. There was less than an hour left of the night.
He ambled around, listlessly, senselessly. He tried to remember why he killed Drusilla... he couldn't. He felt strange, light-headed. He hadn't ordered any drinks at Sherry's... what had he been doing at Sherry's?
"Aoooo" Came a moan from an alley next to Sherry's.
Spike traced the moan.
He found Drusilla.
His memory came back to him in a flash.
He had shot Drusilla. He had murdered Drusilla.
Yet she was alive.
Joy flooded throughout him.
Then confusion.
"Drusilla?" Spike asked, confused.
Dru hugged him. "I was Angelica..."
"What?"
"Angelica switched bodies with me. She took my body. I was left with hers."
An understanding began to dawn in Spike's eyes.
"She knew she was being stalked... Thus, she cast that spell to protect her, to convey her. And now that she's dead, it's broken... And I'm me again!" Drusilla felt her face. "I'm me again!" She repeated, joy abundant in her voice.
Spike hugged her harder. He had never loved someone more in his long so-called life.
