Part Thirteen
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Xander approached his house cautiously, nervously surveying his surroundings. No one was home. He could tell that much. He searched for his key and quickly retrieved it from his khakis pocket. Unlocking the door, he slowly flipped on the light switch. For once, he felt safe. That jinn might not know where to find him, but chances were it already did, considering the fact that it had entered Willow's mind...collected her many thoughts....
He walked to the couch, sitting himself down, and turned on the tv. Most likely a night of re-runs. He immediately found himself glued to the set, as a commercial for 'Untold Treasures' caught his eye. They were advertising for an up and coming sale. Some guy was making it a point that there were many things to choose from among all of the merchandise.
Then...Xander caught sight of the lamp. A closer view of it was shown, only the man was nowhere to be seen. Xander felt a wave of fear wash over him. In his place, a genie sat, baggy pants, small short vest, turban. And its grin seemed to go right through him. A long slender hand slowly inched its way out into the open.
Xander began to back away, as the creature edged its way out of the temporary prison that surrounded it. His eyes widened in pure shock and his hands started to tremble. Where was Buffy when you needed her?
"A wish I have in store for thee," it told him, a mysterious sneer replacing the tight grin.
"But I...I...don't have a wish," Xander said softly. "I'm so wish free. Really. It's the truth." He tried laughing to prove he meant it, but no sound chose to escape.
"But I'm sure you have-"
"Where are Buffy and Willow?" he came forth.
"I'm afraid you won't be seeing them anytime soon. But...I may be able to arrange it if-"
"If I make a wish," he finished.
"You're catching on," it told him.
"How will I know if they're alright?"
"Perhaps you may want to...'wish' yourself...to them."
"Mmm...I don't think you'd take me to them. But since Giles will probably destroy you-"
"No one can destroy me," it reminded him. "I will live beyond even your many years."
"You guys just never go anywhere else, do you?" Came a low voice from directly behind Xander. He turned around. Angel stood in the doorway, his long black coat giving him an almost eery appearance. His face was a shadow, despite the dim shade of light.
"Ah, the good vampire," it spoke at last.
"Where's Buffy?" Angel reguarded it suspiciously, his voice still calm.
"Where do 'you' think she is? She has made her wish."
"What do you mean?"
"She...is no longer...a slayer. Her death has come to a reality. She never survived the master as far as history stands to this day..."
"Oh no...no..." Angel groaned and threw himself to the floor. "Buffy!!!" He let out a cry of hurt, pain, all combined into one. As much as Xander disliked him, he too felt the loss. It was more than he could bare at the moment. He grabbed the side of an armchair to steady himself. He watched as tears began to slide down the vampire's face, saw his hands cover it, as if to hide what was happening...
"You can save her," it whispered. "There...is a way....."
