I don't own anything but the story. Joss and the WB own everything else.

Part Eleven

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Meanwhile, Buffy lay on her bed in the eery darkness, as Angel took up space on the floor below her. Outside, all was calm and peaceful for once. The vampire activity had become almost non-existant. Buffy guessed their jinn was to blame for that. She could live with that part though. She felt her career as a slayer would soon diminish if this kept up. But then...there were other things besides vampires.

"Are you awake?" She asked softly.

He turned toward her. "Mmmhmm."

"You know, I just wish our lives could be different. Giles works so hard to keep me up to date, when he could be having-"

"Buffy. It’ll be okay-"

"And Willow. She tries so hard to get Xander to see her...for more than a friend..."

"That’s Willow’s problem," he said gently. "I’m sure she can handle it."

"Yeah. I...I...guess. I just feel so lonely sometimes."

"You have me," he assured her. "I care, Buffy."

"You do." She felt his hand grasp hers slowly and smiled. Minutes later, she found herself drifting off into a peaceful sleep.

Morning shown its brightness in the slayer’s window the next day. Buffy stirred, trying to wake herself. She then felt darkness consume her, as the blinds were carefully drawn. Looking up, she saw Angel move toward her, a small smile on his face. "Sorry. Sunlight."

"It’s okay."

"Giles called about half an hour ago. He supposedly found out a possible spell that could destroy the jinn. He wants me to look it over, see if I recognize it. He’ll be down your house shortly."

"What an early riser. And the others?"

"Cordelia went home...complaining," he told her, his first laugh in a long time, causing her to smile. "Xander is in your kitchen, eating just about anything he can find. And Willow is reading one of your mother’s books."

"She has got to get a life," Buffy muttered. "She still has the lamp?"

"I think so. She read off the inscription to Giles on the phone. The two of them were trying to determine what the missing words said. Did you have good dreams?"

"Yes. For once. Why...do you ask?"

"The jinn sometimes causes childhood fears to come out in time of sleep. A time when you’d least expect them."

"Nope. All good. Is today a school day?"

"Saturday," he reassured her. "Unless you’re Giles or Willow, you won’t show."

"You made a joke," she laughed.

"Yeah. I guess I did."

"That’s good. Hopefully Giles can learn to bring out his lighter side. He just so...well...British."

"I think I may have it," Giles told the slayerettes. "Willow did help greatly, I may add."

Willow looked at the others, as they sat around Buffy’s kitchen table, and smiled.

"Will," Xander told her. "I think I can officially call you a teacher’s pet."

"No, Xander. I think that was you and Ms. French."

"Don’t...remind me. The bug environment has never been the same since. Which 'was' a long time ago," he emphasized.

"Anyway," Giles interrupted. "It appears our villain can indeed be defeated."

"How?" Xander asked. "Getting it to confess the wrong wish, thereby sucking it back into the lamp? I saw that on Disney's Aladdin once."

"This is more complex, I believe. All of you, must make one wish in its presence first, before anything can be done."

"But they won't-" Willow started.

"Yes. It may cause us harm, because of the way we word it. You have to be precise. And no matter what, don’t believe what is happening around you. Shut it all out-"

"Like a bad dream," Buffy put in.

"I have a spell, which Angel, if you don’t mind looking it over-"

"Sure," Angel replied and grasped the thin sheets of paper from him. His eyes scanned the writing slowly. Offering a half smile, he returned them. "I think that may be it."

"We musn't repeat it aloud of course, until the time comes."

"So, does this thing find us...or do we go to it?" Buffy asked.

"It finds...its victims."

"Weapons?" Willow wondered.

"Won't kill it. It is made of a clear material, resembling that of a paranormal form. Such as that of a ghost."

"Into battle we go," Xander mumbled.
