I don't own anything but the story. Joss and the WB own everything else. I have decided that this will take place between "Halloween" and "Lie to Me." Seeing that Cordy doesn't know that Angel is a vampire yet.

Part Five

The Scooby Gang reached the library shortly after Giles and Ms. Calendar. Willow had quickly logged into Ms. Calendar's email account and had successfully pulled up the information on the prophecy.
Giles put a chair up beside her and studied the text. "A new creature shall gather forces on the new moon, somewhere in Sunnydale, California. On this night.....which is tomorrow," he spoke softly. "It will roam, feeding upon helpless victims of vampiric form, thus gaining strength. Not of vampiric form, however, it will gather followers through the human race."
"So what does it want?" Willow asked, clearly puzzled.
"I'm not sure if it has a purpose," Giles told her honestly.
"But it's going after vampires," Buffy spoke up. "That means Angel will have to....because he's a vampire, right?"
"I'm afraid so," he agreed, looking at the good vampire, who sat in the librarian's office reading an old novel.
"Not a great one, but still a reason to get rid of him," Xander mumbled softly to himself.
"Xander, if you cannot control your sudden outbursts, please leave," Giles countered angrily. "This is serious."
"So it's a possibility?" Ms. Calendar questioned, walking up to him.
"Our villain doesn't appear to be all that bad, seeing that he is determined to make all vampires turn to dust. Nor is he good if he chooses to make us into zombies. Literally hypnotizing us to his advantage."
"What does he look like?" Xander asked.
"The first sensible thing you've said all day, Xander," Giles proclaimed, seemingly pleased.
"Well?"
"It's good that the point was made, but I....I....really don't know the answer...just now," Giles replied, obviously stung with embarrassment.
"Whoa," Buffy claimed. "If Giles doesn't know, it must be bad. I'll go tell Angel." Leaping off the counter, near the doorway, that kids often returned their books upon (if anyone ever happened to borrow one in this lifetime) she headed towards the office.
"Can we stop this from happening?" Willow asked.
"Hmmm.....ah....Buffy did indeed prevent the master from taking over," Giles considered. "So we very well may stand a chance. On the other hand, if Angel is unable to help us...."
"That's bad then, right?" The hacker replied softly.
"In a manner of speaking, yes." Giles answered her. "We just have to find out what it's up to."
Buffy turned the knob of Giles' office. "You know, they always say three's a crowd. But there's more than three out there, so I think you're safe."
Angel looked up from the dusty book he held within his grasp and gave a half-smile. "What's up?"
"Have you studied Willow's lamp yet? You seemed awfully intrigued by it-"
"No, I haven't," he said softly. "But Buffy, I know you didn't come here to ask me that. So.....what's wrong?"
"Okay. You know me too well. Y..you...you know that prophecy that Ms. Calendar informed Giles of when we got here?"
"Yes."
"Well. Giles is betting everything that it's true. Only, it's supposed to happen tomorrow. This creature isn't of vampire form. It kills vampires and takes humans as followers."
"So that means I'll have to go into hiding?" he questioned, his face expressionless.
"It does, but doesn't mean that you can't still aid Giles in-"
"Until we know what this thing is, I think it's best for me to stay out of sight."
"Hey Angel," Willow suddenly poked her head in. "Sorry to interrupt Buffy, but Giles wants you out there for training."
"Aw. Slayers never get breaks. Listen. I'll come to your place later on tonight, alright?" she said, looking at him carefully.
"Sure. If there's still more to discuss," he added hopefully.
"There will be," she told him and found her way out, groaning as she went to face Giles.
"Geez, it took you that long to emerge from a librarian's office?" Xander managed. "What were you doing? Playing a game of hide and seek in there?"
"Xander," Buffy insisted. "We were talking. Slayer talk."
"Oh. Right. So that would mean smoochies were involved?"
"Purely professional," she confirmed. "Not that it's-"
"Any of my concern. Yeah, whatever," he frowned and collapsed in a nearby chair.
"So, Angel. Would you....uh....like to see that lamp now?' Willow offered brightly.
"I have to get home," was his reply. "I'll be putting you guys in danger, if I stay here."
"Wherever Buffy goes, there's bound to be danger," she clarified. "But...okay....if you'd rather...do that."
The young girl frowned, feeling very alone just then, as she watched him go. Giles had Ms. Calendar. Buffy had Angel. Who did she have? She couldn't tell Xander how she felt. She had decided that much. Never. He only kept struggling to win Buffy's affection. Willow would be thrilled if he even threw one sentence of sarcasm her way.
Maybe it was hopeless. But soon....she would find a way to get to him and make him see just what he was missing out on. She was sure of it. Maybe not now, but soon. Smiling from her new found thought, she went out and joined the others in the main part of the library. She had to help Giles with that prophecy...
