Mim's been ages. Where's she gone. She told me not to leave untill she came....... but I have to be gone before Riley comes. Riley should be here any minute. It's been.......... nine nearly ten hours! I hope they havent argued. Maybe something happened.... maybe Mim visited him - Maybe there was an accident. But whatever happened I have to go soon. My choice is begginning to waver. I can feel it. I have started thinking about staying. But I have to keep telling myself that I'd be doing the right thing. Then me and Riley can both get over this. We can move on with our lives. But if I'm thinking about staying, it can't definetly be the right choice. If it was completely the right one, well it'd be obvious. But it isn't obvious. I'm doing what I think is right........ what I think is right. I don't know anymore. I just don't know...............

L.A.

"Do you think she's gonna' call, Giles? Do you think she realises how bad this is?" Willow looked up at the man that has guided her always, needing a new answer to life.

She tried so hard to forget about Xander and Kennedy and Dawn and everyone else that had been murdered. But every night as she'd climb into bed, their faces just explode in her mind. Calling her for help. Calling her for some way out. But no matter how hard she'd try to reach their begging hands, reality would pull her back, and then they'd be dead.

"Willow - the honest answer is I don't know. I don't know anything anymore. Buffy is hurting, we need to remember that, and we can't blame her if she doesn't undersstand. A lot of things she'd put behind her have just decided to re-appear. Angel.... she thought he was gone from her life. Then he turned up evil, and then suddenly he turns up good. That must be quite confusing. And Spike - he was her life. Then she watched him die. And now he's back. She's trying to deal, she really is. I know Buffy, and I know what she must be wanting to do. And here we all are, judging her, telling her not to be proud. And I have realised - that she is not being proud. She is scared. She wants to just run away. Her life has been tipped upside down. And then tipped back the right way again. But her mind is still upside down." Giles felt so guilty about what he had said to Buffy.

"And then there's Riley. I didn't think of how hard it must be to call help off him. How hard it must be for her. But still - she can see that this is the way to victory. She must be able to see this is the way forward. Anyone could see that."

"Hey Will - just get your coat on and come help me find her. If we are going to have any chance of beating Anyanka - with or without the initiative, we need Buffy here. So move your skinny ginger behind," Spike lit up a new fag and turned the leather collar of his mafia-style jacket down.

Willow glared across the room, but Spike was already walking out the house. She scurried onto her feet, grabbed a purple poncho, and darted out of the house.

Giles sat all alone in the house. They'd all gone out, not even asking if he wanted to go. They must have thought he was getting too old. But that isn't a problem for him now. He's a vampire. Super strengh. Super agility. Super everything. He was looking younger and younger by the day. He was in his fifties, but looked around 40. In some ways he was happy to be a vampire. Less chance of being killed. But nobody even cared.

*

Sam whipped around the house for any items she hadn't packed. She slipped some extra cash from behind pot into her purse, before rushing to the front door. She ripped the door open, and staggered out into darkness of the night.

Her mind kept flashing back to that fateful night. The night that has changed her life forever. The night she was raped. Anger burnt up in her blood, as she thought of how that man had hurt her. How he'd held her prisoner as he'd pulled her into a world of darknees and terror and evil. She locked the front door, and carried on out of her house.

A car pulled up outside the house. Samm carried on cautiosly, ignoring the car completely. As she walked past the door opened. her heart skipped a beat, and she grasped her hands tight together. Tears swelled in her eyes, terrified. And then he called her name

"Sam!"

She turned to the car instinctively, trembling.

"H...h...ello?" She whispered.

And out Jackson stepped. Sam sighed in relief, her face awash with tears. She rushed towards and leapt into his arms.

"Hey steady on there girl, I know I'm handosme, but no need for so much intimacy!" Jackson giggled.

"Oh my god...... thank you soo much...... i thought it was him. I thought it was my rapist. Jackson, don't leave please............." She buried her head in Jackson's arms, and sobbed.

"Sam, I've come about Riley." Instantly she looked up, and her tears stopped. Her face burst into confusion and anger, as she realised what had happened.

"Mim......... she's killed him hasn't she."

"He's in a very critical condition. We thought you should be there with him. But it looks like you've got plans," Jackson pointed at the bag in her hands.

"Wait here. Let me get him some clothes and stuff. And then I'll come with you."

Giles carressed the soft fur of his new best friend. His cat. Now... he was distanced from the rest of the gang. So he bought a cat. Of course he had the urge to eat it at the start, but since then , it's became a loyal companion. Even though Angel and Spike were both vampires, Giles felt that the others resented him for what he was. He knew that Buffy felt guilty. He told her not to, what happened wasn't down to her. It was down to Spike. Maybe that's why she felt giulty, he thought. Because she loved a man that let her guardian be sired. That let her guardian be taken to the other side.

The slim, brunette, stepped from the coach like a supermodel. Her skin was tanned and sexy, long slender legs. Her hair danced like flames around her glamourous face. A short, glittery, emeralde dress, wrapped itself around her amazing physique.

She looked around, half expecting to see a huge party of people waiting to congratulate her. But there was only one other person there. A blonde girl rested herself against the post of the bus shelter. Tart. But she knew that must be her. She must be the Slayer. She must be Buffy.

"Hey!" She called over to the woman.

"Can I help you?" The woman answered.

"Ummm - it's me. They said you'd all be here - to pick me up..."

"I don't think so. I have a husband, and we are not into whores. I'm just waiting for my sister."

"I am NOT a WHORE! How dare you? I could probably kick the shit into you if I wanted. I'm waiting for some friends - I thought they were you." She was getting flustered. Anger soared through her veins. She'd never been called a whore before.

"Oh... uh - I'm sorry. I didn't mean to ... I just -uh- thought..." The woman backed away embarrassed.

"Well keep your goddamn thoughts to yourself!"

A hand tapped the girls shoulder. She whipped around, shocked.

"First lesson. Keep cool. You don't want to kill humans, only the bad guys." It was Buffy.

"You?"

"What about me?" Buffy wondered.

"Your Buffy! Your the amazing Slayer everyones talking about! But your just a -"

Buffy cut in, "Girl? Everyone thinks that. But however long your the Slayer. Your never just a girl."

"Well I was going to say a wimp, but hey - if it spoils your speech I don't mind!"

The pair grinned. Buffy felt she had a friend in this girl. Someone to be on her side.

"My name is Phoebe. I'm from New York," they started walking on into the night.

"I know. They told me everything. From your fave color, to how you found out."

"To how I found out what?"

"That you were a Slayer. You were one of the more complicated Slayers to track down."

Phoebe gave a short laugh, hooking arms with her leader.

"Yeah well, when I found out I was a potential - I freaked. Thousands of hooded creepy things were chasing me, I seriously didn't want to be found."

"I understand. I felt the same, but I was kinda forced into doing the gig. In some ways it's better you didn't come and help. A lot... a lot died. You might have too," A lump rose in Buffy's throat, as she thought of all who had sacrificed their lives to help her.

"Okay.. Creepy like! But when I felt all that power surge through my body, I just couldn't keep hiding. I started fighting the things that chased me at night. I begun to hunt the hunters. I had the power."

"That's why your here."

"Well yeah I guessed that. They told me I was to be trained. That you were going to teach me."

"No. There is no time. You are strong enough already. You survived the Bringers, and tons of other Demons without training. You are here to fight."

"Hey hold your horses babe! I don't think I'm ready to fight anything big," Phoebe was worried, how could she be ready to fight proper, she'd never even seen a vampire.

"Listen. Time is running out quickly. It's a matter of weeks. Probably days. Maybe hours before they attack."

"Untill what attacks, and did I say I'm not ready?"

"You are ready, I can sense your power. It's very strong."

"You never answered untill what attacks. Untill the vampires attack?"

"No. Untill they all attack. Every single monster, vampire, demon, everything I have ever killed. They are back, all stronger than ever, and ready to strike. We need you. We need everyone."

"WHat? So your saying that I'm gonna' be thrown into the biggest fight you have ever dealt with, without any training. There will be like fifty monsters!"

"OH MY GOD!" Tears leaked from Buffy's eyes. She didn't know how in-experienced this girl was, " More like millions! I have killed, slayed, millions of thousands of monsters, most of them nearly killing me."

"Jesus..." her voice trailed off. She turned away, unable to cope with the fct she was going to die. It was impossible for them to win, and everyone knew it.

And then the vampire struck.

*

The vehicle was filled with slience for most of the trip.. Sam didn't know what to say. So she just stared at the steamed up window.

But then the silence broke.

"What actually happened," Sam stared at her husbands best friend. She was so confused right now.

"It's not important. What is important is that Riley needs all the help and support he can get right now, so no leaving."

"Jack... please... Just don't tell Riley. If he knows I was going to leave him...he'll be devastated."

"He already knows. Mirachniam told him," Jackson sighed soflty.

"It's Mim. Her name is Mim. You have to tell me what happened. I need to know."

"No one knows for sure yet, we've just pieced diferent bits of the puzzle together. I'm sure Riley will tell us completely once he's ready."

"What do you know."

"We found him in one of the un-used inititive cells. If I was any later, he'd be dead. Once I got to him, he was in a coma. He still is. There was a lot of blood, I thought he was dead. But it was... Mim. Your... your sisters dead."

"Okay," Her emotions were switched off right now, unable to think, unable to concentrate.

Jackson pulled into the Hospital. They just sat in the darkness for what seemed like forever, not talking, just thinking.

"Jack, did Riley kill her?"

"Sam... just leave it. You don't want the details. Now should we go or not?" Jackson smoothed Sam's face, feeling the love he had for her growing inside.

Sam looked at his rugged face, and smiled. She felt the safest she had done in a long time. Just sitting here with one of her closest friends. But right now she wanted more than a friend. SHe needed a lover. So she moved in for the kiss.

The magic between them soared into an explosion of intimacy. Sam writhed like snakes, wrapping herself around his warm, comforting body. He didn't push her away. He lifted her top, stroking her soft skin. Sam ripped his shirt away, kissing his muscular chest. They slided onto the back seat, Jack just resting on her slim body.

And they made love.

*

The vampire laucnhed itself from nowhere, crashing into the pair of Slayers. Phoebe collapsed ot the ground, terrified. She'd never even seen a vampire, and now one was attacking her.

Buffy knew instinctively what to do. She dodged the vampire's attack, moving in with a hard fist. She slammed her hand into his nose, the crunching of bone echoing through the streets. The vampire retaliated, swiping his leg across her skull, sending her to the ground.

Buffy looked up breathless. This vampire was strong. Stronger than any of the others. But she wasn't going to let it kill her. She leaped to her feet, smacking the monster in it's abdomen. Buffy kicked some more, the rage and aggression pumping in her body. The vampire grabbed her by the neck, slamming her against a hard, solid wall. She puched bak, then kicked, the vampire being thrust threw the air. She whipped a stake from her pocket, sprinting to where the Vampire lay. She gathered her strength, smashing down towards the vampires chest. But it rolled out the way, the stake splintering into a thousand shards of wood, as it hit the concrete ground.

Before Buffy knew it, she was on the floor, the vampire pinning her down. Her head was pressed tight against the floor, her neck being studied by the monster. She couldn't get away. Her only hope now, was Phoebe.

"PHOEBE!" Buffy screamed, begging for help.

"PHOEBEEEEEE!" She screamed again, panick riding her body like a horse.

The vampire growled, before moving in on her soft neck.

"I'm giving you three seconds to get off of her," Phoebe stood victoriously above the vampire, a wide melon smile across her face. "One, two - time to fight!"

Phoebe clasped her hand on the vampires hirt, pulling it from Buffy. She slammed down hard with a strong punch, the vampire falling flat on it's back. Phoebe looked around, needing a weapon, and quick. But there was nothing.

"Phoebe! Take this!" Buffy threw her high heeled shoe towards Phoebe.

Phoebe looked confused, what do I need a shoe for? She thought.

"Use the pointy bit for a stake!"

By now, the vampire was already up and charging. It leaped, soaring like bird. Phoebe jumped up, slamming the heel through the Vampires heart. A cloud of ash and dust, swooped down from the sky.

"Well done. You're gonna' be fine. Trust me. C'mon, let's go."

They started walking off, towards their house.

*

"This should never have happened. I can't... I have to go," Sam put her top back on, pushing her hair back behind her ear.

"Don't worry. You were upset. Confused. I understand," Jack held her hand tight, and smiled.

"AND YOU TOOK ADVANTAGE!"

"Hey! You wanted it. I love you Sam! I love you so much!" Jack turned away, embarrassed, scared and even shocked at what he was saying.

"What...? But you're Riley's best friend. How can you love me?"

"Easily. You're the best thing I have ever known in this world. And I want to spend the rest of my life with you"

"Jack... I can't deal with this now. But all you need to know is that nothing can ever happen between us. I can't do that to Riley. I'm sorry." Sam pushed open the car door, and walked out into the chilly air.

She breathed in, and walked off towards the hospital without turning back.

*

"Buffy! We thought you were gone for good!" Willow ran up to her best frend, holding her in her arms.

Buffy smiled, everything was going to be alright now.

"Oh my god, I was so scared that you'd left!" A tear trickled down Willow's pale face.

"Do you think I'd really leave you to fight those demons alone. What am I, gutless? No I don't think so."

"Who's the new arrival, pet?" Spike nodded at Phoebe, and smiled.

"She's a new Slayer. I forgot to tell you about the phonecall I had today. I only remembered myself when I passed the bus shelter. And if I hadn't remembered she'd be dead by now."

"Hey, I think you'll recall that I did save your life!" Phoebe giggled, sarcastically.

"What happened. You hurt?" Angel walked over to his Slayer, putting his arm tight around her cold body.

"No I'm alright, " Buffy pulled away from Angel, she wasn't ready for anything more than talking with either of her favourite vampires. She could see he was hurt.

"This is Phoebe. She's from New York. And she's a toughy"

"Hi, I'm Willow. That's Angel, and the blonde one's spike. Buffy has history with them both, so unless you want to be killed, no touching!"

"Willow! Please, don't overload the girl with our life history before we get back. C'mon, I expect Giles wants to see her," Buffy felt her face go red, as Willow talked about her and Angel and Spike.

"Giles? Isn't he -"

"Yes he's my watcher. How do you know any of this anyway Phoebe?"

"Ex-watcher I think you mean. The man who told me what I was, he told me nearly everything."

"Xander." Willow thought about her main man, the person who had taken her through her life. She missed him so much.

*

"TOMORROW NIGHT WE FIGHT! ALL OF US, AND THE ONES THAT HAVEN'T RETURNED YET. TOMORROW WE SUCEED IN KILLING THE SLAYER. IN KILLING EVERYONE. IN TAKING OVER THE WORLD. WE CAN DO THIS. FOR ONCE AND FOR ALL, WE WILL FINISH OUR TORMENT. WE WILL BE ABLE TO WALK THIS PLANET AS IF IT WAS OUR OWN. IT WILL BE OUR OWN!!!!" Anyanka paced the cliff edge. Below her, millions of Demons looked up, watching her, ready to be told what to do.

They were certain of winning.

And in some ways, Buffy was too. How could they win, half a dozen humans, against millions of demons.

*

Sam quietly crept into the hospital room. Her husband lay battered and bruised, wrapped in blood seeped sheets.

"The sheets are dirty. There is blood, everywhere," Sam spoke softly to the nurse that was busily shuffling about the room.

"We give clean sheets every day. But he's still bleeding. We stitched the wounds but he scratched them out in is sleep. Don't worry though, he'll be fine. He's going to theatre first thing tommorrow, and he'll be fixed up proper there."

"Thanks," Sam sat on the small chair by her husbands side, and she stroked his face. She hoped so much that Jackson didn't come in, things would be too awkward.

"When's he going to wake?" Sam questioned the nurse.

"No idea love. He's in a very bad coma, so it could be anything from a week to a year. You never know."

"A year? I don't think I could cope..."

"I know it's a long time. But if you two are really in love, things will work out fine. You just have to believe in him. You have to be faithfull."

Sam had already wrecked things then. She'd already slept with someone else. How could I?, Sam was at a loss.

"Can he hear?"

"Maybe, if he wants to listen, he'll listen. That's what I think. If he wants to wake, he'll wake. His life is in his hands. But that's just my point of view."

"Riley baby... please wake up. I love you so much, I need you so much. We can work things out, I promise. We have to work things out. Wake up," Sam wanted to cry so much, but she wouldn't let herself, not in front of someone else.

"I'll be back later love. We'll be taking him up to theatre in about six hours. So if I was you, I'd get some rest now and come back then. There is a hotel just down the road. You can get a room for cheap, and then you'll always be here if something happens."

"No, I'm staying. Untill he's out of here, I'm staying. Bye," Sam smiled at the nurse, as she waddled off to her next patient.

She didn't see Jackson in the doorway. He stood and watched as she talked slowly to her unconsious husband. He felt guilty about betraying hi best friend, but he loved her so much. He always had, that's why he'd refused to be best man.

Then his phone started to ring.

Sam twisted round, nearly jumping out of her skin. She couldn't believe the nerve Jackson had.

"What the hell you doing here!" Sam shouted, Jackson fumbling in his pockets for his phone.

"Same as you love, seeing my friend," He took the phone outside, leaving Sam to stew.

That ass-hole. He doesn't deserve to see Riley. He doesn't deserve any of it. I can't believe what I did with him, it's so wrong.

"Hello? Srg.Jackson Welks speaking," he answered his phone.

"Hi Jack, it's Jim here. How's Riley?"

"He's doing great, really great."

"We just had a phone call for him - "

"He's unconsious so I doubt he'll be taking any calls,"

"Just goddamn listen Jack! It was from Buffy Summers."

The pair went silent for a few seconds. This could wreck Riley completely if she's after him. Last time she took him off into the deep end. She wasn't good news.

"What did she want?"

"She needs our help. There's going to be a battle. A big one. In L.A. Some demon called Anyanka - "

"Wait a minute? Anyanka? She's the one me and Riley saw when we beat Zak-in-the box."

"Zakynvlor. I know, it turns out Anyanka has bigger hopes now. She's raised an army, of every demon thy have ever killed. She has ever killed. There will be millions. Which is why we need everyone. We are taking all of our men from the U.S and Canada, and a lot from Britain. We need you back here too."

"I want to stay with Riley."

"I know, but we need you. You are one of our best soldiers. But we also need Sam."

"Hey hold on there butty. We can't do that to her. One - she's not part of the team anymore. Two - she's to stay with Riley. She has to."

"Please, you must be able to do something," Jim pleaded with Jack.

"I'll try but I don't think there is much hope. I'll be on the first plane tommorrow. I'll go straight into L.A. and track Miss. Summers dow. I'll work with them and get them ready."

"No. There will be a helicopter picking you up from the Hospital Heliport. In roughly half an hour. You can sleep on the way."

"Half an hour? That's rediculous, how the hell am I meant to get Sam to go in half an hour. We could die. If this battle is as big as you say it is, then we probably will die."

"Just be on the roof in half an hour"

"But - " Jim hung up.

*

Buffy got off the phone.

"Riley's in hospital." Everybody truned to face Buffy, she had their attention.

"Riley's in hospital but they are still going to help us. They are bringing men from Canada and Britain over, and will be here very soon. We need to prepare, we have a chance of winning now. We have an army." Buffy felt as if everyone believed in her again. That they trusted her judgement again.

"We are all very proud of you Buff. We know that phonecall must have taken some guts. So what do you want us to do now?" Willow got to her feet, and awaited instructions.

"Yeah, if the initiative are going to help us, there isn't much for us to do," Angel agreed.

"Are you saying we might win Buffy?" Phoebe's face lit up, at the thought of victory.

"We will win. Definetly. And this is what we are all going to do. Willow, I want you to research as many spells as you can. Look for something that might get rid of them all, or help us. Giles, you are to find out if there are any more Slayers on their way, and if not, you find out why the fuck not. Sorry for my outburst. Angel, I want you to contact some of your old mates, see if they know anything. And Spike, I'd like a word."

Buffy walked off into the other room, Spike following closely behind.

"What do you want to talk about peaches?"

"Us." Buffy stared into his eyes, as she sat down on the sofa.

"I don't think this is the right time. We have a battle to win, and if we survive, then we talk."

"No! We talk now. We haven't talked about any of it since you came back. I need to know, in case I die."

"Don't you mean I die. What's there to know about anyway, I came back, helped Angel, then you guys turned up."

"Okay, if that's all you think there's to it, bye," Buffy couldn't belive that Spike didn't care about what they had. What she wanted.

"What is there then. The fact that I loved you? I thought we dealt with that when you said that you didn't want me."

"Before you died, I told you that I loved you. Don't you care."

"I'm sorry babe, but I'm over you. What was is was. What is is is. We are over." Spike walked out the room, leaving Buffy heartbroken.

HOw could he do this? He's just destroyed everything he ever wanted, everything I want. I love him so much. But he doesn't feel the same anymore, so he says. Nothing's changed that much has it? Do all feeling be erased when you die? They didn't for me. I still loved. Or am I just crazed. Am i some kind of lunatic that thinks things are always the same forever. I just wish sometimes that -

Willow ran into the room.

"Hey Buffy, I was just typing random words into google and I came across - What's wrong? You've been crying?" Willow sat down, one arm around her best friend.

Willow could tell almost instantly what was wrong, Spike.

"Willow, I thought things would be diferent. I thought he still loved me. I guess not."

"Shhhhh. C'mon, think about all this after we've won the battle. For now, look at what I found. It's a spell to increase or decrease someones strength. I was thinking, what fi we increased our strength and decreased the opponents strength."

"You could really do that?"

"Well it's a tricky spell, but I think I could pull it off. You can take away so much strength so that someones unable to stand. And then that strengh would be passed between all us."

"But how would you do it for every single one of the Demons?"

"You wouldn't have to. Anyanka stores the energy source in her essence. That's what lets these Demon's live. That's how she's cloned them. If we killed her, the essence would still be in the world, and you can't get rid of an essence at all. But if we took all the energy from her essence, wouldn't that take all the energy from the demons?"

"I'd think so. Ask Giles, that's just too over my head."

Willow kissed her on the cheek before getting up to leave.

As she walked through the doorway, she turned.

"We will win this Buff, we have to," And then she left the room.

*

"Sam."

"Jack, just get out..."

"I will in a minute. But I need to tell you something."

"Don't you dare. You can tell me you love me when we're alone, but not in the presence of my husband. Now go."

"It's nothing to do with that. It was Jim on the phone. There's a lot of trouble brewing up in L.A. He needs me.. and you,"

"I have to stay with Riley. And I'm not part of the team anymore."

"I think Riley would want you to go. It's Buffy, she needs help."

"Riley's ex? The Slayer? The one that ripped his heart out, tore it into a million pieces, and eat it Buffy? I some how don't think he would want to help her."

"She's going to die! If no-one helps her, she will die. We need as many soldiers as possible right now."

"Tough. Let her head be ripped off. I don't care," Sam turned away, unable to look at Jack.

"And you think Riley will love you if she dies? If she dies and you didn't bother to help, you thik Riley would love you?"

"We'd get past it!"

"No you wouldn't. He'd be on the first train out of this town, away from you. I've known Riley as long as you have, and I know what he went through with Buffy. He loves her to this very day, and he'd want her to live. Now are you coming or not, I have a helicopter to catch."

"I can't do that. I'm not leaving him."

"Whatever. I just feel sorry for Riley. A wife like you, a total disgrace."

Jackson stepped out the room, before unning off down the corridor.

Riley's eyes started to flicker. His body started to shift, his head turning from side to side. Muffled noises were pushing there way from his mouth, hid whole body shaking. And then his eyes burst open, his mouth errupting with it.

"BUFFY!!!" Riley shot up, sweat raining from his face. He was shaking, terrified.

"BUFFY!!! OH MY GOD BUFFY!" Riley ripped the sheets from his bed, pulling the wires from his chest. He tried to get up, screaming.

Sam tried to push him back down, to restrain him. But he was strong, he couldn't hold her.

"RILEY! Get back into bed, your not well. You can't go anywhere!" Sam begged him to lie back down, she was petrified.

Riley lashed out, smashing his fist into her face. She exploded through the glass window, smacking into the hospital corridor ground. Security guards raced down the corridor, guns poised, ready to shoot.

"SAM IT'S OVER YOU BITCH! WHY WOULD I HAVE A WIFE LIKE YOU, ONE THAT DOESN'T EVEN FUCKING STAY FAITHFULL FOR TWO MINUTES! eNJOYABLE WAS IT, SEX IN THE FUCKING BACK SEAT! AND NOW SHE WOULDN'T EVEN DO THE DECENT THING AND GO AND HELP HER HUSBAND'S TRUE LOVE. THAT'S RITE BITCH, I DON'T LOVE YOU, AND I NEVER WILL! SO PISS OFF!" Riley raced through the hospital, knocking the guards down like skittles. He had to get to the Helicopter, he'd heard everything that was said. The nurse had been right, if he wanted to wake, he'd wake.

He sped up the stairs, screaming, shouting manically. He couldn't cope, he shouldn't have left the hospital bed, he wasn't ready. He heard the guards below him, they were on his tail.

Jackson spun round as he clambered onto the helicopter, his best friend running through the darkness and the rain. He couldn't believe it, Riley was awake and he wanted to fight.

"Riley! Your awake!"

"Jack we have to go!"

"Wait a goddamn minute boys. We have a new soldier. Riley, it's great to have yo - "

Riley's fist sent Jackson flying.

"That was for shagging my fucking wife! Now get me some dry clothes, so I can be on this damn mission!"

Riley pulled himself aboard, Jackson just behind. Then the helicopter pulled away, speeding off towards L.A.

"Giles, anymore Slayer's for us?" Buffy'd sorted herself out. She realised that it wasn't the right time for what she asked Spike... but still, he didn't lov her anymore?

But Giles wasn't there. Neither was Willow. Nor Spike. Nor Angel. Just Phoebe. A facade of dark, rich blood covered the walls, dripping into puddles on the cream carpet. Dust hung in the air, settled on the television and mantlepiece. Buff'ys heart stopped beating. She knew what had happened, and for a second her life stopped.

Her mind flashed to a time where problems were extinct, where lives were happy.

"Well, I gotta look on the bright side. Maybe I can still get kicked out of school!" Buffy grinned, her life perfect. Friends, no secrets.

Buffy, Xander and Willow walk away, troubles distant from there minds. They were happy. Giles looked on, watching them continue their lives.

"Oh, yeah, that's a plan. 'Cause lots of schools aren't on Hellmouths." They all grinned. Xander cracking jokes, yet again.

"Maybe you could blow something up. They're really strict about that," Willow chuckled.

"I was thinking of a more subtle approach, y'know, like excessive not studying," and they walked off into a perfect life.

Giles turned around, and left for his library. A small smile emerged on his face,

"The Earth is doomed!"

Buffy lay beside her love, and slept. He watched her, smiling. Then she woke. He couldn't help but giggle.

"What?," Buffy smiled at her dead-boyfriends happy face, "Do I have funny bed hair or something?"

"Or something?" Angel grinned, cheekiness spread all over his handsome face.

"I guess we got a little carried away with the whole post-slayage nap thing," Buffy reached up and stroked her hair. She felt the frizz curled up like a nest on her head, "Ohhh, not good" She got up, walking to the other side of the room.

"Where you going?"

"To go kill a cat on my
head?"

"No mirrors."
Buffy looked shocked. "You know, this place really isn't girl-friendly. No mirrors, no natural light..." She trailed off, an essence of happiness floating in her words.

"I think you look perfect."

Explosions of sunlight keep emanating from the amulet, flaring brightly. Buffy reached out, grasping Spikes hand in hers. She entwined her fingers with his, a last sign of passion. They stare into eachothers eyes, but suddenly there hands bursting into golden flames. But they ignore it, gazing into eachothers souls.

"I love you," The first time Buffy had ever said it, and she meant it. She did love him, and she was so happy.

Spike looks at the blonde, emotions flooding his mind, grief, anger, happiness, and exhileration. He was ecstatic. But he didn't believe her. Why now, why not before, why didn't she tell him before. Now he was dying.

"No, you don’t. But thanks for saying it."

They took one last look at eacother, their last look. Their souls came together at last, writhing like ivy, connecting. But then the ground ripped apart, stone plummeting around them like bombs.

"NOW GO!" And Buffy ran, leaving her future behind in the falling cavern.

Phoebe stood in the center of the room, eyes black, fiery embers burning her hair. Her skull was bare, skin ripped away. Blood was like her skin now. Her body was tangled in burning creeper, scolding her bone.

Her voice was low, sharp and demonic. You could hear the death, violence and anger exploding in her words.

"THEY HAD TO GO SLAYER! SO NOW IT'S JUST YOU AND US. DEMONS.."

"So when did I fight you, 'cos seriously I don't remember. You mustta been kinda lame, don't you think, if I can't remember you?"

Phoebe started to twist, wriggling. Her skull started to stretch, hellish horns rising. She started to grow, body forming another. It was the First.

"REMEMBER ME NOW! THIS TIME YOU WON'T WIN. YOU CAN'T WIN. SO MANY OF US, SO LITTLE OF YOU. YOU OUGHTA JUST BUY A COFFIN WHILE YOU CAN!"

Buffy looked up, unable to believe what was before her. She shook her head wildly, before her legs gave way, the wind rushing past her cheeks. Her body crumbled down into nothing more than pain. Her breath was ripped from her, white, acidic shards digging - penetrating her skin.

She knew what was happening. She'd felt it all before. She was dying.
