Summary: This is a new series about Riley. It starts half way through Happy Ever After. There are a few spoilers for Happy Ever After in this chapter and future chapters. Buffy and her gang are not in the beginning of this series but a few members will be joining later on. In this episode: Riley finds hope in Sam, but who is he actually seeing.

Riley pulled himself into the helicopter. He looked around one last time, hoping he'd see her run out of the darkness for him. But she was nowhere to be seen. He had thought for a while that she might come for him, but as every minute had passed, all hope was sinking deeper and deeper into the ground.
He wiped his eye quickly, keeping up his manly appearance with the other members of the initiative.
"Agent Finn, you ready to go?" A man dressed in a camoflague uniform called to Riley.
He had one last look around, and nodded to the man.
Little did her know, that as he flew away, leaving his whole life behind him, that she was there. Buffy raced through the city, screaming to her man. The noise of the machine was too loud, and her beckoning calls would never be heard. Her life, and his life were seperating, in front of her very eyes, but she was powerless to fate.

She's so gorgeous. Her hair so brown, and fine. Her face so....... frail. If only I could reach out and touch. To stroke her skin. Like I did to Buffy. I feel like I did when I first saw Buffy. Exhilarated and breathless. Apart from the hair and eye color, the resembelance is remarkeble. Maybe there is someone up there, who thinks I deserve some happiness. Maybe they have sent Buffy back to me in a diferent form. I shouldn't stare. She might see. Buffy might see. And I need to remember, she's not Buffy she's....
"Hi - I'm Samantha. BUt everyone calls me Sam," Her voice was so smooth. It glided around my body, filled me with delight, Riley thought.
"Hey, I'm Riley," A smile emmerged from his lips, as he looked up at Sam.
"Penny for your thoughts?" Sam took a seat next to Riley, and he explained what he'd left, and what he'd entered.

Their relationship hadn't moved further than just friends for a long time. They'd talk about their past, and what they missed. Riley opened his heart up to Sam, or who he saw as Buffy. He couldn't let himself love this girl too much. If they became more than friends, thenhe'd be dating BUffy, and Sam would be dating Riley. Sam knew how much he hurt, she knew that he would never entirely let BUffy go. She didn't ask him to, all she asked was for him to take her, for him to love her the way she loved him.
He felt ashamed inside. He knew what he was doing was wrong. BUt he couldn't stop himself. She had offered him a life with her. She had offered him another chance with his love Buffy. All he had to do was say yes. And he'd be happy.
They got married a few weeks down the line. They were called on a mission to Sunnydale a month after. He saw Buffy again, and then he realised, that Sam was nothing compare to Buffy. The liknesses slowly faded away, and the love Riley had for Sam, was gone with the wind. But when he saw BUffy had moved on with Spike, everything was gone. His feelings for Sam= squished, his feeling for Buffy = pushed back down inside with the never ending kiss of BUffy and Spike.
Riley had no feelings anymore. But he had to pretend, because he needed something whether it was fake or real.
