“Why haven’t they called?” Buffy asked Giles impatiently.
“I don’t know.” Giles replies, taking off his glasses and cleaning them nervously.
“It’s been two days.” Buffy continues. “Maybe we should call them.”
“That does seem the logical thing to do.” Giles says replacing his glasses. “They could be in trouble.”
“Or they could just be having fun in LA…” Buffy says thinking. “But I still think we should try calling.”
Giles calls the safe house in LA, and gets no answer.
"Maybe you were right Buffy." he says. "Maybe they are just out having fun."
***
"Having fun?" Spike asks Angelus as he walks around the table Xander is on.
"Yeah, I'm getting ready to move him. I was just about to tell him about the Glorious Five." Angelus says, almost lustfully.
"The Glorious Five huh? I remember those..." Spike says, reminiscing on the old days.
"What are they?" Xander manages to talk past his swollen lip.
"Means of torture, mate." Spike says rubbing his hands together. "So, when do we get started then?"
"What are they?" Xander asks again, wanting to know what they were going to do to him.
"Blunt, Sharp, Hot, Cold, and Loud. Not always in that order." Angelus says while untying one of Xander's arms. "And I have my own ways of torture besides those." Angelus finished.
Xander’s eyes grew wide, but he didn’t speak. He wouldn’t let them see his fear.
***
“Bloody pompous idiots.” Giles says as he slams down the old black phone. “Don’t bloody care about the lives of innocent children.” he continues to rant.
“What did they say?” Buffy asks curious, and nervous.
“They won’t tell me anything about the safe house. They say that it is private information that can not be released.” Giles replies.
“But why won’t they tell you? You are a Watcher after all.” Buffy says.
“Because it is against protocol. People only go to the safe house, to get away from people, and they tell me that it isn’t up to them to decide who knows who is at the safe house, and when. So they won’t tell me if anyone has been there recently.” Giles said vehemently.
“Well, then we’ll just have to visit the safe house ourselves.” Buffy says, getting out of her chair, and grabbing her coat.
Giles doesn’t move, so Buffy turns around. “What are you waiting for Giles?” she asks.
“Nothing, I’m coming.” Giles says standing up, and trying not to let his worry show.
***
“This is better than I remember.” Angelus said aloud. “I haven’t tortured anyone in ages.” He emphasizes the word ages, as if to show how much he wants to make up for all that lost time.
“I’m glad one of us is enjoying it.” Xander laughs at Angelus.
“It won’t be over soon. So don’t give up hope. You’ll love it just as much as me, when we get to the end.” Angelus laughs.
“What end?” Xander thinks to himself. Angelus won’t let them go. He’s evil, and way too smart to escape from. But that isn’t going to stop Xander from trying.
“Angelus.” Spikes’ voice floats in through the open door, from the next room. “We need to go hunt.” he finishes, stepping through the door with Drusilla.
“Coming.” Angelus says. “Don’t worry Xander, I’ll be back soon. Don’t wait up.” Angelus says to Xander, before walking out with Drusilla and Spike.
“Don’t worry, I won’t.” Xander mumbles under his breath, as he tries to sling the chains over the fish hook like contraption they are hanging on.
***
“Xander?” Willow says, unbelieving as a still chained Xander runs into the room.
“Yeah, yeah, it’s me. Let’s not talk right now.” Xander says as he runs to the wall, grabbing a knife, and cutting through Willow’s ties.
When Willow’s hands and feet are untied, she tries to stand, but nearly falls over. Xander stands beside her, holding her up, until she can get her footing.
“Run now?” Willow asks, almost letting a smile grace her eternally turned down lips.
“K.” Xander says nonchalantly, and they proceed to run out of the door, into the main room of the mansion, and then through the large, open, front doors.
“So. What's going on?” Xander asks Willow, still confused about why he was supposed to be a ‘gift for their Willow.’
“I…” Willow starts.
“You what?” Xander asks wondering.
“I did a spell.” Willow says.
“So. Why does that make you special to Angelus?” Xander asks, nearly tripping over his chains. “Should have gotten these things off, I guess.” he laughs.
“I did a spell to save Angel.” Willow says in a rush.
“You tried the soul restoration spell?” Xander asks.
“No…a different one.” Willow sighs.
“Okay, and then what? It obviously didn’t work.” Xander laughs.
“No…it did work.” Willow is close to tears.
“What do you mean?” Xander asks, now thoroughly confused.
“The spell I did, wasn’t to return his soul… it was to save him from Buffy.” Willow said, now openly crying.
“What do you mean, ‘save him from Buffy’. Wil, we haven’t seen Angelus in at least a week.” Xander tells her.
“You guys don’t remember. I can only vaguely remember it.” Willow sobs out before continuing. “I did a spell, a temporal time fold, so that we could go back in time. I needed more time to restore Angel’s soul. But now, as a side effect of the spell, I can’t restore his soul with the Orb of Thesula, and the Gypsy curse.” Willow finished.
“What are you talking about Wil?” Xander asked, getting nervous.
“Angel found Acathla, a demon that, when awakened, will suck the world into hell. Any creature with a soul, will suffer eternal torment. Buffy had found where Angel lived, and she went to stop him. I knew I was going to be too late, so I did a spell, so I could have more time to restore his soul. I thought, that if I went back in time, I could keep him from finding Acathla, and return his soul to him. But I failed Xander…I failed. And now Cordelia, and Oz, and mother, are all dead because of me.” Willow nearly fell to the ground, her sobs racking her body.
"How could you!" Xander almost screamed. "Toying with everyone's life like that! It's dangerous Wil! And now, everyone is dying, and we could have stopped it!"
“It’s all my fault.” Willow said, no longer able to cry. “I killed them.”
“No.” Xander says, calming down. “It’s not your fault. You did what you thought was right. It can still be fixed though, right? If you did one time thingy, you can do another?” Xander sooths his friend.
“Yes…maybe…” Willow says looking up at him. “I need to get some supplies though. Most of the stuff I need, we can get at the library.” Willow says, standing up. “Oh God, Giles. What will he say? And Buffy? They are probably worried about us not calling.”
“We’ll worry about that later.” Xander tells her, helping her stand straight. “Right now, let’s run to the library, and barricade ourselves inside.”
They continue their run, and are not far from the school, when they see Drusilla. They turn back around, hoping she hadn’t seen them, when they run right into Angelus and Spike.
“Where are you going mates?” Spike asked with a smile on his face. “Not trying to leave us were you?”
“N-n-no.” Willow managed to stutter out.
“Yea, where ya going?” Angelus asks mockingly.
“With me.” Buffy says, walking into view.
“Buff, how ya been?” Angelus asks, eyes still on Willow. “How’s the family? Dead I hope.”
“You’re sick.” is all Buffy says, as she sends a volley of kicks and punches to Angelus’ face and body. “To think…I loved you.” Buffy pants as she continues her assault. Angelus falls to the ground, taking her with him. She lands on him, and he grabs her arms.
“Whoa lover.” Angelus says, kicking her in the stomach. “I don’t have the time for this right now. But we’ll dance again, real soon.” he finishes, backing away from Buffy, who is on the ground, holding her stomach. She jumps up, but it’s too late.
Spike grabs Xander, and Angelus grabs Willow, and they run back to the mansion, at inhuman speeds. take them back to the mansion, throwing them on the floor.
“Now, I’m hurt.” Angelus says pacing in front of them. “I thought we had something here, you know? Now I feel used.”
“I thought you were enjoying it as much as us.” Spike said from the couch.
“Now, I have to take some of the fun away.” Angelus says, picking up Xander, and moving him back to the torture room. “I think it’s time to begin the Glorious Five.”
“Oooh.” Drusilla said in childish anticipation.
“Dru, luv, will you get the sharp started for us?” Spike asked, putting his arms around Drusilla. In that moment Spike remembered that he had been in a wheelchair a few days ago, but Angelus and Drusilla had walked in on him, standing up, and he had, had, to celebrate with them, his ability to walk again. They didn’t know that he had been walking for a while before they found out. And they never needed to. He had a chance of getting his Dru back from the clutches of Angelus, and he was going to try.
When Spike asked Drusilla to start the sharp, she slipped into her true visage, and walked to Xander, letting her fangs brush the soft skin of his neck. She looked him in the eyes, glee in hers, and then bent back down, and broke the flesh. She slowly sucked the blood, not wanting to kill him.
Xander fought at first, but then his head fell back, and he put his arms around Drusilla for support.
