Happily Ever After
Beginning of The End
The seven, now best of friends, stood at the edge of the dark crevasse, looking down at what used to be - home. Sunnydale, Calafornia, was no more. It had all been destroyed, not longer than an hour a go, by Spike. He was a champion.
Everyone's words just floated like thin air around Buffy's mind.
"We have a lot of work ahead of us," Giles said.
Faith appealed to the group. "Can I push him in?"
"You got my vote," Willow said, grinning.
Faith yawned, stretched. "I just wanna sleep, yo. For like a week."
" I guess we all could," Dawn said. "If we wanted to."
"Yeah, The First is scrunched, so...." She looked at Buffy. "What do you think we should do, Buffy?"
Faith grinned at the Slayer. "Yeah, you're not the only one and only Chosen anymore. Just gotta live live like a person. How's that feel?"
Buffy looked at Faith.
"Buffy?" Dawn asked her big sister. "What are we going to do?"
Buffy Summers looked at her loved ones, then back at the crater, she considered the question. A small smile crept over her lips.
"Come on, let's go" Buffy answered, the smile disappearing nearly as fast as it had come.
Buffy should have been happy, the happiest she'd ever been, she now had the chance to live a little. But she couldn't find it in herself to be happy, all that was there... all that was there was hurt. She felt hurt, and sadness. Maybe it was due to losing her only love, Spike. But there was something else. She didn't know what but there was something else burning inside her, some other great sadness. And suddenly, without no warning, she burst into tears.
*
Buffy, Willow and Faith all stood solemnly at the end of their new house, 312 Robin Street, Manhattan. They waved farwell to their best friends drive away towards the dark horizon. They were never coming back. Even though they said they would return, Buffy knew deep down they were gone for good. Gone to find a new life, a better life. Buffy contemplated about going with them, but in the end decided to stay with Willow.
At night Buffy no longer knew what to do with herself, she'd go out and patrol, seeing as they'd destroyed the only hellmouth in America, the amount of vampires that turned up wasn't enough for a decent fight. For a couple of nights Buffy tried to be normal, she went to a club, "Evolution", watched television, read a book, but couldn't help but fall asleep and be bored. It was two weeks after destroying the hellmouth for good, that Buffy realised her other great sadness. One night as she was sitting alone in her dimsy little room, something clicked in her head. She was thinking of all the times she had fought vampires and how it was now over. Then she realised, she actually missed killing. She missed the need by her friends. She missed being head-girl, being special, being chosen. She wanted to be wanted, she needed to be wanted, she HAD to be wanted again. Sometimes she'd wish, that some great horned mosnter would waltz right into her bedroom, bearing teeth. She wished she could kick some butt, rescue her dearest friends from some hell hole. But her feelings didn't stop at sadness. There was anger, anger that her so-called friends didn't stick around, anger that she felt so jealous of all the other slayres in the world. She knew they probably didn't want to be the slayer, and she just hoped thay'd ask her o reverse the spell but it wasn't possible. She also felt dirty, and ashamed. She wanted to actually kill. Imagine wanting to kill. Maybe she wasn't no better than all the demons and vampires she'd slayed, maybe she was just a cold blooded killer. Demons and vampires needed to kill to survive, and right now, Buffy did too. Is she better?
Willow, probably the now most active member of the slowly lessening gang, hadn't been so sad. Her nights were full of excitement and fun. She'd hang out, play with her new skills. And she knew in her self she was growing stronger every day, the power slowly increasing, taking over her body. She'd been issued tasks by the coven, like to transport to places like Egypt and destroy a nest of Vamps. She felt proud that she was now an agent of the night, helping to keep the world safe for everyone. But she did notice Buffy. She did notice Buffy's growing sadness. And she did know why. In some ways she felt guilty, Willow is now the slayer, not Buffy. But to just look at Buffy's pained face every night was heart breaking. She'd tried to cheer her up, give her something to do. But it was useless, Buffy was no longer alive inside.
************************************************************
Willow, Buffy and Faith all walked through the midnight streets, hand in hand. The silence was like a blanket shrouding the three. Neither one of of them had the confidence to speek. The trust and love had been lost from the friendship, the day they moved from Sunnydale. That was their home, and their happiness had been left within the house, and had been destroyed.
The moon waved in the black sky, like a guardian angel, one eye always on Earth. If only that guardian angel did actually guard they could be happy. The only angel Buffy had ever known that did make her happy, was her true love to this day, Angel.
They headed gingerly through a large park, headed straight for Evolution. It was Willows idea to come, to lighten everyones spirits.
A branch snapped from the shadows. They turned. And again. The same snapping. Buffys breathing grew stronger, her heart was racing. She felt the adrenaline rush, this could be her lucky night. The trees shaked, but nothing came out. The wind whispered in the fresh air. And with a blink of an eye, two figures stepped from the bush. Buffy knew the faces too well. And so did Willow. And Faith.
Anya. Angelus. They were back.
