Part VIII: Action
"You sure this is a good idea?" Rose asked somewhat nervously.
"Let's face it, I'm hungry, you're hungry, the adults are busy dancing, so we have to find our food ourselves," Selena explained as they held on to the railing of the balcony.
"We could have just sneaked up to the cake, and stolen the cream roses," Rose grumbled.
"Too late for that," Selena said. " Ready? One, two-"
"Ah, gotcha!" a voice said abruptly, as two firm hands lifted the culprits, and prevented them from leaping onto the wedding cake which happened to be right below them.
"Aw, Graggle, we were just playing around," Selena grumbled. A lot of grumbling seemed to be going on at the time.
"Yes, well, that 'playing around' could have gotten both of you killed, or worse yet, paralyzed," Giles chided. " Do you realize what you two were about to do?"
"We were hungry," Selena scowled. Giles lifted one eyebrow, and when Selena's gaze did not waver, he sighed and put the two of them down.
"Now, look, if the both of you promise to stay out of trouble, I'll tell Selena's parents to cut the cake now, all right?"
"Okay," they said in unison.
"Good," Giles sighed, and then he quickly went down the steps.
"What is it, Giles?" Angel asked, his brow furrowing, as he detached himself from yet another guest who seemed to have forgotten that the man she was dancing with was married. " Not demonic activity, is it?"
"No, no," Giles said, wryly," much worse. There are two terrors up there who demand that you and your lovely wife cut the cake before they starve to death." Angel looked up, only to see Selena and Rose's faces peering at him expectantly.
"I see," Angel said, mock-solemnly. " I shall do my best to try and ease the problem."
"Thank you," Giles said. " The girl you were with...she seemed rather amorous."
Angel grimaced, and said," That was an old friend of Buffy's. She seemed to think I had little respect for the vow I took today."
"Young people today," Giles said, making a" tsk, tsk" sound with his tongue. He noticed Angel looking at him in an amused way.
"What?"
"I was only thinking how ironic that sounded, coming from you."
Giles blushed with the memory of his past, and was about to sputter a reply when he noticed Angel was already several feet away from him, with Buffy.
Buffy was holding a champagne glass, and tapping it lightly with a spoon. The sound resounded around the gathering place, and all chattering ceased, or at least lessened.
"Attention," the groom called. " My bride and I will now cut the cake." Both of them smiled as they heard a muffled clattering from overhead.
With their enjoined hands, they lifted the knife, and made the first cut. Afterwards, a professional caterer divided up the cake, and made the last two pieces a little larger than the rest, upon the bride and groom's request.
"Man, this is the best wedding ever!" Rose said, as she and Selena dug in.
"Isn't it your first wedding?" Selena asked, with her mouth full.
Rose swallowed, then answered," Yeah, but that's what makes it the best. I'll never forget it. Gee, wonder what'll happen at Cousin Cordelia's wedding with Xander?"
"Wowzers," Selena said, by way of agreement.
