Part I: Conversation
"I can't believe it!" Willow squealed at her best friend. " After all this time, you and Angel are getting married!" She said this even as she frowned at the bouquet, wondering whether she should have added some more baby's breath around the edges for detail. Willow Rosenberg might not have a green thumb, exactly, but she was an expert when it came to arranging flowers.
"Neither can I," Buffy sighed. " Cordy, would you *please* stop fiddling with my hair?"
"Oh, all right," the former Prom Queen said. " I'm just saying that-"
"Cordelia, I'm leaving my hair the way it is, and that's final!" Buffy said, firmly.
"Yeah, better listen, Cor, lest she stake you," a familiar voice joked. All the girls turned toward the doorway, and smiled at Xander. Well, except for the one who he would have liked most to smile.
"What are you doing in here, Xander?" Cordelia demanded to know, with a scowl.
"What, it's not as if I'm the groom or anything," her fiancé said, defensively. " Besides, I need you to knot my tie for me."
"And we always thought Cordy wasn't domestic," Buffy joked. Cordelia pretended to scowl, but then smiled, and got up to do the job, complaining all the while.
"I've told you, and told you, you should just buy a tie that clips at the back."
"Cordy, have mercy, I'm not a wet-behind-the-ears lad anymore, I'm a man!" That comment only procured a sniff from the recipient.
As Cordelia and Xander continued their argument, Willow and Buffy smiled at each other. All four knew that such things were more for show now, than serious.
"Speaking of clips, I should probably go help Oz with his cuff links," Willow said, with a tender smile at her boyfriend's name.
"You mean he can't do them himself?" Buffy asked.
"No, he just likes me to put them on," Willow said, walking towards the doorway.
"Yeah, better get moving before he starts howling," Xander teased, as Willow passed by him. Right before Cordy smacked him lightly on the arm.
"That's a horrible pun, Xander Harris!"
"Only the best for my lady," Xander replied, with a deep bow, then straightened up quickly when Cordelia jabbed him in the ribs.
"No fair, Cordy! Buff, help me here!"
"Sorry, Xand, you're on your own," Buffy said, somehow managing not to laugh.
"Knock, knock," said yet another voice at the entrance.
"Hey, Faith," greeted Buffy, walking over to hug her sister-in-arms. Faith had politely refused to be a bridesmaid, insisting that she would look out of place near the altar.
Faith smiled, and hugged her back, before pulling away, saying," Hey, careful there, don't wanna ruin that dress, do you? Wow, B, you look fantastic."
Indeed, Buffy Summers, soon to be Buffy Summers Aestas, was a sight to behold. The white silk dress was patterned after the one she wore in her portent of where the parts of the Judge were being held, the only change being that a long white cloak was fastened to the shoulder straps by finely-wrought brooches with a Celtic knot design upon both. The style was copied for the bridesmaids' dresses, however, Cordelia's was sky-blue, while Willow's was blue-green.
"Ah, thanks, Cordy," Xander sighed in relief, rolling his neck slightly. " Now, I think I better go back and check on the groom."
