While driving down the road Giles and Xander were having a conversation about what they were about to do and what was going to happen.
"Giles we can pull this off without Buffy knowing can't we?" asks Xander.
"What do you mean, without Buffy knowing? I thought she was going to be in on this," said Giles questioningly.
"Why would she be a part of it? If she were, and the spell went wrong, she'd be so upset she'd go into a type of coma or something of the sort. And as of now I really don't want to lose her after all we've been through. I'm sure you don't want to lose her either, but you know that if we had to kill him she'd be so heartbroken she'd want to die."
"You do have a point there, but I just don't know how to keep her out of it. It's absolutely impossible to prevent her from anything. We've never been able to prevent her from doing anything before so how are we supposed to now?"
"We could give her a lot of sleeping pills so she sleeps soundly."
"Xander we don't want to o.d. her. We just want to get her out of the way until this is all done. Then if it works we can bring her back and all will be well. Although I have a feeling she'll hate us for not including her."
"Yeah but once she sees Spike she'll be off with him and snuggling with him to the point where she'll forget all about it."
"Good point. Now let's get the supplies and hurry up with this thing."
While Xander and Giles were shopping for supplies Willow and Buffy were still digging. It was silence for the longest time, then Buffy finally spoke.
"Will..."
"Yeah Buffy..."
"Why did you stay? Why didn't you leave with Xander and Giles?"
"Best friends stick together Buffy, and you looked like you could use teh extra help. You know I'm always up for a good ol' fashion dig," said Willow trying to get Buffy to laugh, "Why don't you rest those little shovels of yours for a while."
Buffy looked down at her hands to see her knuckles covered in red with dirt mixed inside. The skin around it was torn and pulled back like the peel of a fruit. She looked at her once white outfit only to find that it was now tan with darker spots here and there, and there were even tiny dropplets of blood here and there. Willow with her back towards Buffy all of a sudden heard a cry. She turned around only to find Buffy holding out her hands and on her knees, slowly dropping her head to the dirt. Willow quickly scrambled over to her and held her against her and started rocking her.
"Oh Buffy. It's alright. No need for tears. Come on Buffy don't start crying now. Don't lose hope."
Buffy started to realize that she wasn't going to find Spike here. She knew he was gone forever. She didn't want to admit it, but she finally had. Right then she felt like dying herself. She just didn't think that she could go on without him.
"Will..."
"Yeah Buffy..."
"Can you just kill me now?"
"What!"
"I can't go on like this. I...I just...I feel like I'm dying without him. I just want to end this suffering!"
"Oh Buffy..."
Willow, not knowing what to say, just continued to keep rocking her hoping Giles and Xander would be back soon.
