“I killed you!” Buffy screamed as Angel held onto her. She wanted him to scream at her and hate her.
I deserve it, she thought madly.
“I will always love you” Angel whispered.
“How can you love him, he tried to kill me, Giles, and Willow. How can you still care for him. That vampire deserves to die Buffy. When will you see that?” Xander yelled at her, smiling his sarcasm filled smile. He was mocking her.
“ He hurt me.” Willow whispered in her ear.
“Nooo! Please I love him I can’t help it. Please don’t hate me for it!”
Buffy sat straight up in bed. She was tangled in her blankets and drenched in sweat. She groaned softly and tried in vain to untangle herself.
“Buffy?” A familiar voice called from outside her window, and then Oz was climbing through her window.
“ What are you doing here?” Buffy asked wondering if she was dreaming. Oz was like the last person on the earth that would be climbing through her window at three o’clock in the morning. “ Is Willow alright?” She asked fearing the worst
“ No, she’s fine. That’s not why I’m here.” Oz said sitting on her window seat.
“ Ok Oz, you got me. Why are you here?” Buffy asked throwing up her hands in a sign of defeat.
“ Well, I thought I may be able to help you, and I thought even if I can’t you deserve my effort.” Oz said softly.
“ Oz in case you haven’t noticed it’s the middle of the night and it’s a full moon, you’re going to turn into a werewolf, and I’m going to be doggy chow.” Buffy said uneasily.
Oz laughed. “ I forgot to tell you. Giles set me up with one of those temporary, ‘ one time deal,’ spells. It’ll keep me from turning tonight.”
“ Ok now that I don’t have that problem to worry about there’s still the question of why Are you in my bedroom in the middle of the night?” Buffy asked standing.
“ I know you’ve been having a hard time, and I know that it’s got something to do with Angel.” Oz said, waiting for her reaction.
“ How do you know about my problems? You don’t understand, you can’t understand.” Buffy snapped.
Great this is all I need right now, Oz goes on an ego trip and suddenly thinks he knows everything, Buffy thought.
“ On contraire, I can and do understand what your going through, because in one way or another I have been there before. Trust me I know what’s going through your head and Angel’s.” Oz said sadly.
Buffy looked at him sharply. “ I don’t understand. You can’t know what’s going on in either of our heads.”
“ I do. Buffy I have nothing against Angel, because him and I are in the same situation. He can’t help what he does when he’s Angelus, I can’t help what I do when I’m a werewolf. People hate us because of our other half’s. Neither of us have normal lives for fear for the ones we love. Buffy it’s ok to love him. It’s what he needs. Don’t hate Angel because of Angelus.” Oz said softly.
“ The dreams Oz, you haven’t seen them. Willow, Giles, Xander, everyone they won’t understand. I can’t help but love him. It’s not my fault.” Buffy said, her eyes tearing up.
“ That’s what I’m saying buff. You need to love him. Forget the dreams, they’re telling you to love him, and forget everyone, someday they’ll understand. Until them it’s only you, me, and Angel.” Oz said moving closer to comfort her, which by the way was extremely awkward..
“Uh, as much as I appreciate this, don’t ever do that again.” Buffy said wiping her tears after Oz had given her a clumsy hug and accidentally touched the wrong place.
“Sorry.” He said coughing. He was glad he had been able to help her, but wished he could do more. “ I’ve got to go, and the rest is up to you. Remember what I said and call me if you need anything, ok?” Oz asked.
“ Thank you. You know I never really thought of you as someone I could turn to. I didn’t think of you as someone who would understand.” Buffy said thoughtfully.
Oz smiled. “ I tend to surprise people like that.” Then he was gone leaving Buffy knowing what she had to do.
