Part One

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Xander sat in solitude in the library, with pictures of Buffy running wildly through his head. Ever since that fateful day after Angel had been banished in Hell, the only thing Xander could think of was his undying love and loyalty towards Buffy. But now Buffy Summers had disappeared, and the slayerettes, Willow and Xander (Cordy too) had been trying to locate their heart-broken friend. But now it was after dark, and the gang had all gone home, except for him. He continued to look through all the books, train and bus schedules he could find, but still, after a week of hard-core researching nothing had surfaced.

Xander wondered why he didn’t think more of Cordy, she was after all, his first and only girlfriend. But for some reason Buffy meant the world to him, and he would never let her go. He thought about how he had to hear about Buffy and Angels secret love from Angel himself, and Buffy couldn’t even tell her best friend about it. Now, come to think of it, Buffy had even told Willow. The tears dropped as Xander felt pity for himself, and his painstaking crush. Wiping the tears away, Xander slammed the city transit booklet close. Tonight’s research would have to continue tomorrow.

Willow, who was now out of her wheelchair, and Oz walked hand in hand up to Xander at school the next day. He was standing next to his locker throwing his books in, not really caring if they fell to the ground.

"Rough night?" Willow asked, noticing the dark circles under his eyes.

"Did you need to ask?" Xander said in a sharp voice, not really meaning to snap, but yes, it had been a terrible night.

"Look, Xander, I know this is rough on you," Willow said, " It’s rough on me too, I mean, she was my best friend."

"Yeah," He replied bitterly, "She can trust you with anything." Willow knew he was speaking about when Buffy had told her about her and Angel’s passionate love.

"Let’s go," Oz stepped in, knowing that this was going a little too far. He took Willow’s hand again, and she went with him, periodically looking back at her best friend.

Just then Cordy walked up and placed her hand on Xander’s shoulder. "Ew, you have terrible bags under your eyes. You want me to touch them up some?" Before he could answer, she was digging through her makeup bag.

Thanks but no thanks. I don’t need any help from you." He said and turned his back.

"You know," Cordy replied getting angry. "This pity thing is getting old. Buffy’s gone, deal with it, you’re pissing a lot of people off with your moods." She stomped off to join Harmony, and all her other friends.

They’ll never understand, Xander thought, as he wandered through the halls. Never will they understand my love for Buffy. He slammed his fist against the locker, forgetting about his broken wrist.

"Ahhh!! He yelped in pain. His face got red as everyone stared and laughed at his sudden outburst, but he didn’t care. Nothing mattered to him anymore. Just Buffy.
