Part Five

She was back at the dock. She knew why. Now she had to end it all. One slayer dies and another rises. Now would be the defining moment as another slayer takes over. Kendra would take over.
The watery grave below her was summoning her. It wanted her to join the ring. And it wouldn't take much. All she had to do was jump in. The freezing water would do the rest. It would be painful but not anywhere near the pain she was feeling in life.
Buffy climbed over the rope fence and stood at the edge. It was closer now. She just had to jump. Bend her knees and leave the support of the ground beneath her. That would be the end. Buffy Summers would end her life barely eighteen years old.
She felt ready to release the ropes. She removed one hand and when she felt ready to move the other she did. But someone caught it. She felt someone's arms go around her waist and bring her close to them. She tried to resist them but couldn't. It was two people.
"Let me go!" she screamed. They wouldn't.
"Why are you doing this, Buffy?" she heard Willow ask her. "I want to die!" Buffy exclaimed.
"Don't say that, Buff." Xander said in her ear.
"Why not? It's the truth." Buffy broke away from Xander's hold. The other person who had been holding her was Angel.
"Buffy, don't do this." Giles said softly. She looked at her watcher. There were tears brimming in his eyes.
"Giles, I have to do this. I don't want to live. This is the only way." Buffy turned back to the rope. Angel was swift enough to grab her.
"Why can't you all just let me be?" she asked out loud.
"We are not going to let you go, Buffy. Never." Angel whispered to her.
"It's not your choice." Buffy maneuvered herself and found away to throw Angel back. She ran as fast as she could to the other end of the dock. Nobody could catch up with her. But someone did. Someone caught her in their embrace and held her tightly. Too tight. This person was not someone who cared about her. She could smell the cigarettes on the black leather coat. He knew it was Spike.
"Whoa, slayer. This is definitely an interesting twist to killing Angel." Spike had her in his grasp. She was not strong enough to push him away. She could sense Giles and company near by.
"Get away from her, Spike." Angel snarled. "Let me think about that." Spike paused. "No way no how, Angelus." Spike violently turned Buffy around and held her head to one side, exposing her jugular to him. "You long to die so badly? I guess it won't make any difference at all if I kill you instead of you killing yourself..."
"Don't hurt her." Giles threatened. "Or what are you going to do, old man?" Spike smiled. "You going to kill me?" Giles looked confused. "I don't think so, man. You know that if you try anything, she will die either way. Even if I don't kill her, she will jump off the dock."
"I'll---" Giles started.
"You'll what? Kill me?" Spike laughed. "Don't you want to save the slayer first?" Spike teeth were grazing the surface of her neck. She had no desire to fight it.
All of a sudden, she felt herself being thrown into the water. Spike had tricked them. She felt the water come all around her. He had thrown her far off. There was no light where he had thrown her.
The water was cold...so cold....
She felt herself sinking. This is what she wanted. She wanted to die now. This was the answer to her every prayer. She felt the water welcome her....and then everything was black.
