Part One

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

California is a haven of sunshine for many. For other inhabitants, the sun is an anathema, a garish beacon shining in their playground of darkness. The early morning sun made one visitor indifferent, as he sat in a dark corner of his limousine, brooding, with the sun's rays casting light upon the deep blackness of his eyes and the pouty frown of his full mouth, barely escaping the coldness of his heart. He lead a long life, most of it was loveless, but lengthy nonetheless. He stared out at the window; the sun gave his dark eyes a tiny gleam that resembled life. He sighed and pressed his reddish-brown cheek against the window. The sun wasn't his enemy, just his dictator. His eyes shifted towards his cohorts chatting at the seat parallel to his. Their discussion was licentious, as usual, talking of the pleasures of sweet adolescent girls they would indulge in after a high school dance.

"Mmm, I can't wait to get those sweet, young lovelies." said Etienne.

"Oooh, yes. Young tender girls..." said Langois.

"If that's what you're into." the dark corner answered.

"Uh oh, Jack's in one of his moods again." joked Etienne. Jack sighed and shifted in his seat.

"How much farther until we get to the school?"

"Jack, it's been a long time," said Langois. "It's time to move on..."

"I know how long it's been." he snapped, gripping his left breast. "I've lived with the pain, and the coldness for over a century. Don't tell me it's been a long time."

"Maybe you'll find another at the school." Etienne suggested.

"I don't want a child. A child can't love the same way a woman can. I've learned that the hard way." Jack sighed deeply, his eyes glistened with pain through the shadows. They were dark, like deep set onyx that lost their luster. There was a tense silence in the limo as Jack dwelled on his last statement. The silence was broken by a sound of a speeding car. They peered out of the darkened windows and saw the passing of a speeding white car with two young women in the front.

"Oooh, did you see those two?" said Etienne lustfully.

"I sure did." said Langois, running his tongue across the top row of his teeth. "And they looked tasty." Jack sighed heavily to show his annoyance with their conversation. The two remained silent as he played with two necklaces that rested against his furry chest. One which was a choker with a blue ankh surrounded by white quartz encased in a silver charm. The other was a silver choker with a chain hanging four inches from the center, with a silver ankh on the end.

The white car that passed the large black limo whipped through curves and sped down the streets to catch every green light. The young woman in the passenger's seat, Nona, gripped to the dashboard out of fright.

"Geez, Vivienne, you drive like a maniac!" she said.

"So get out and walk then." she answered.

"Damn, man, chill on the attitude." she said sucking her teeth.

"I don't see why you asked me to drive you to school today?" Vivienne said.

"Well, Mom's out of town for one thing, and two, I told you it's a surprise. You just have to be there that's all." The white convertible turned into the parking lot of Sunnydale High School, Vivienne scanned the lot to find a space, when Nona poked her shoulder.

"Viv, pull over there!" she said, pointing to a group of four teens standing by a picnic bench. "That's my friend Buffy and her crew." Viv pulled over near the picnic bench. Nona exited the car before Vivienne turned off the ignition.

"Hey guys!" said Nona. Buffy, Willow, Xander and Oz rested at the picnic bench. "Is he here yet?"

"No, man." said Oz. "I hope he gets here soon, dude. I don't wanna miss my first class!"

"My sister's gonna wet herself when he gets here!" Nona squealed.

"Who's he?" Vivienne asked, approaching her sister from behind.

"You'll see." she said slyly, her full lips grinning from ear to ear."

"Look, you know I have to get to my first class by 9. Just tell me what's going on here."

"You'll see."

"I'm waiting five minutes, then I'm outta here." Vivienne said sternly. She paced back and forth impatiently. The last time she set foot on Sunnydale High School was four years ago; and had no desire to set foot here again, not to mention having Xander stare at her like a piece of meat.

"So...who is the Ja...". Nona shushed Willow her quickly. "Er, I mean this guy anyway? I hear his a big musician from New York."

"This guy's all that." said Oz. "Remember that song 'Softly Softly' we played at our gig last month. That was one of his songs. Man, he's awesome."

"Really, that song was so cool." Willow beamed.

Vivienne paced the length of the picnic bench like a caged panther. She looked at her watch. "Whoever this person is, he's got one minute to get here." she said.

The was a stir among a small crowd as a black limousine drove onto the school's property. The car pulled in front of a garnet colored tent with a scattering of cheering students in front of him. The quintet look on with curiosity.

"Nona who's in the limo?" Vivienne asked.

"You'll find out " Nona answered.

The limo rolled to a complete stop. The door opened and two gentlemen rose from the vehicle, walking around the other side. One opened the door and a tall, lanky figure slipped out of the car. He was an entity in black, save the cinnamon colored hands and face, partially covered with pitch-black sunglasses. A bushy shock of black tresses bloomed from his forehead. Some of the students cheered upon sight of him. Others, catching a first glimpse, were in awe of his powerful presence. Oz takes Willow's hand, motioning it towards him.

"Look, it's him!" he said. Vivienne squinted to find any recognition in the dark, mysterious figure. Her mouth dropped slowly, letting out a soft gasp. Her face tingled with excitement.

"Oh my God!" she shouted. "Oh my God! Oh my God! It's Jackie P!"

"I told you you'd be surprised." said Nona.

"Who the hell is this guy anyway, I've never heard of him." Xander said smartly. Vivienne turned toward him, wild-eyed.

"Who IS he? He's only the most bomb-diggiest singer in New York City!" she gasped. "Oh my god, Nona what's he doing here?"

"He's performing at the school dance tomorrow night." she said. "I knew you wanted to see him since you raved about him the when you went to New York last year." Vivienne raced to her car, checking her make-up in the side view mirror. She adjusted her skull cap and fingered through her long, ebony tresses.

"I'm going to get his autograph!" she cried, racing down the small hill toward the tent. Oz followed, also eager to meet him.

"Sounds like this guy's a hot property." said Buffy, watching Vivienne and Oz hurry towards the display table where he sat.

"Yup. He was all my sister talked about when she came back from vacation." said Nona.

"Bomb...diggety?" said Xander.

Oz was the first to reach the table where Jack sat with Langois and Etienne signing handing out demo tapes and answering questions. Vivienne was right behind him, waiting for him to stop talking about his band to she can get an autograph.

"Hey man, loved that latin sound in 'Seguraca', it was totally phat." he said, extending his hand. "I heard you were in Cali to shop around for a record deal."

"Thank, man. Yeah, I'm headed for LA after I play the dance to talk to a few companies." said Jack as he shook his hand. He tilted his head to the side and noticed Vivienne behind him.

"Hi." she said eagerly, moving to the side of his tilted head so he could see her. Jack released his grip from Oz. He looked at her from head to toe.

"Hi..." he said slowly. "How are you?"

"Fine, now that I've a chance to see you." how are you?

"Fine, now that I've seen YOU." he said in a sly tone. "Excuse me a second, man." he said to Oz, who moved down from the table to make room for Vivienne."

"My friends and I saw you throwin' down at this club in Manhattan last year, and you were off the hook!" she said, trying not sound like a giddy fan.

"Thank you." he said slowly. He mused at the way the sunlight highlighted her long black tresses. He tilted his sunglasses downwards trying to see her full beauty, even at the risk of the sunlight damaging his eyes. Her eyes were dark brown, but looked chestnut upon the light hitting them, her lips were soft, not too full, and formed red colored bow below her nose. He watched her lips form every word as he spoke. Vivienne started to feel self-conscious from his staring. She shifted slightly, thinking that he may not be able to stare so easily.

"So, you're playing at the dance tomorrow night." she started, makes me almost wish I was a student here again." She darted her eyes about, almost pensive about his next look.

"You're not a student?" he asked, leaning forward to achieve some kind of closeness towards her.

"No. I was outta here four years ago, I'm graduating from college in May." she said proudly. Jack looked up at the white skull cap that rested on her head. The cap had a purple 'V' with a bee flying around it.

"What's the V stand for?" he said dreamily, still surveying her beauty.

"Vivienne, but I prefer Viv." she said quickly, nearly tingling from intrigue that he was giving her so much attention.

"Vivienne sounds more beautiful." he said

"Viv's easier on the brain cells." she smiled. She grabbed one of the 8 by 10 glossies and gingerly handed it to him. He slowly removed the picture and took her hand, caressing it; savoring the soft, brown skin.

"Tell me something, do you like jewelry...Vivienne?" he asked.

"I wear it occasionally." she answered. She was bewildered by his question. He let go of her hand of a moment and moved his shirt collar away from his neck, revealing the silver choker with an ankh hanging from its chain, and the second one with a thinner chain containing the oval charm of white quartz and sapphires that formed an ankh. He slipped the choker off of his neck and gently placed it in her hand.

"Here, it's yours." he said. Vivienne stared at the choker in her hand, marveling at the sparkle of the sapphires which played against the milky quartz.

"It's beautiful!" she gasped. She paused for a moment and slowly handed back the necklace.

"I can't take this, this must have cost a fortune." she said.

"Nonsense. It's a just costume jewelry from one of my shows. Go on take it." He took her hand and formed a fist, with necklace resting in her palm. He held her and for a moment, taking stock of her beauty. He scanned her body starting with her neck, lowering his eyes to her heavy breasts hiding behind a flannel shirt, and her curved legs peeked out from under her shorts. She started to feel nervous as he visually caressed her.

"Well, I guess I've got another piece of jewelry then." she said nervously. She heard the clock in the school tower chime nine times. She looked at her watch which read 9:01 in the gray, LCD display.

"Oh God, I'm gonna be late for class!" she said snatching her hand away. She grabbed her signed glossy and a demo tape.

"Thanks again, I'll see you tomorrow night!" She yelled as the ran back up the small hill to her car. When she arrived at the car, she threw her books and other items in the back of the car. She raced around the other side and plopped in the driver's seat. Nona, Buffy and Willow, walked up to the car to see her off.

"Well?" said Nona.

"He is still the man!" said Vivienne and she started the car. "Nona, I owe you one big time!"

"You mean that?" she asked, with a twinkle in her eyes.

"Yes."

"Can I borrow your car?"

"No." said Vivienne as she pulled of and sped out of the parking lot. Nona rolled her eyes after watching her speed off. She mumbled that she was going to class and left the rest of them behind. Xander caught up with Buffy and Willow as they made their way to class. As they walked, Buffy stared at Jack quizzically and clumsily brushed against Xander as she walked.

"Don't tell me you're under this guy's spell too." he said. "C'mon the guy's some rock star we never heard of dressed in black."

"No, I'm not under anyone's spell Xander." she said. "There's something about him, a vibe that I get that he's hiding something."

"Yeah, a phone number to a good barber. Look at this hair! He's got that whole Don King thing going on!" he teased.

"I'm serious Xander. There's something about that guy that doesn't sit right with me."

"Maybe he's a vampire." said Willow, only half serious with her suggestion.

"No way, he's out in the daytime, he may look like one of Angel's poker buddies but I've gotta say nay on this one." Buffy slowed down her walk as they entered the building. Xander and Willow looked at her curiously.

"Not all vampires have adverse effects to sunlight." said Buffy. "Giles told me that once."

"I wasn't totally serious, Buffy." said Willow. "Do you really think he could be one?" She stood in the hallway for a moment, collecting her thoughts.

"Maybe Xander's right. He might give off creepy vibes but it might be unlikely." She walked towards the two of them, walking in between them as the headed for their first class.

The full moon had a pinkish tint to its color. The clean, suburban block of Ogontz Street was deathly quiet, which was the only thing Jack wanted to hear. He crept across the lawn of a large, blue and white house, giving Etienne the okay to come across. The scurried around the side and leapt into a tree that sat across and open window.

"How do you suppose we get in?" Etienne whispered. "We've never been invited into this house!" Jack pointed to the front of the house. Etienne followed the direction and saw the Hex sign with 'Wilkum' in green letters. Etienne affirmed his gesture, but Jack peered into the window and watched Vivienne as she slept. Etienne also watched her as she rested peacefully. Jack leapt over to the window sill and Etienne followed his lead. The both balanced themselves with feline skill. The window was slightly ajar.

"She's so beautiful." Jack whispered and he stared at her through the window. He slowly opened the window and the two men slipped in. Vivienne bed was only a few steps away from the window. The approached the bed and Jack knelt beside her and stroked her cheek.

"She is lovely." said Etienne. "Just don't take her tonight, it isn't the right time."

"Why not?" Jack said raising his voice. Etienne shushed him but Jack ignored his warning.

"She won't be able to hear us. I can subliminally touch her through the necklace, just like I can locate her no matter where she is." He stroked a few tresses of her hair from her face, watching her full chest heave as she breathed deeply. He traced his finger along her neck, enjoying it's smoothness under his tapered fingers. He reached into his breast pocket and pulled out a switchblade, it's base was made of mahogany and decorated with floral etching. He extended the blade and traced across her neck.

"Don't!" said Etienne. "Don't make the same mistake twice."

"I don't intend to." he said quickly, continuing to trace the blade along her neck.

"Didn't you learn anything from the incident with Arielle?" he asked. "You mistake was that you took her shortly after you were sired yourself. You know unstable she was, she nearly burned down half of New Orleans after you killed her family!"

"No, this is different!" he interrupted. "Arielle was a child. Vivienne has strength, fire and passion. She's ten times the woman Arielle was!" He returned to tracing her neck with the knife, poking at the jugular with his neck. He mumbled that he just wanted a taste of her blood and mused over its sweetness.

"Jack, don't." said Etienne.

"I'm starving!" He said. "I just want a small taste to tide me over."

"Then that's the last thing you should do, you could go overboard and kill her."

Jack ignored him and pierced her flesh with the blade's tip. A small rivulet of blood ran from the tiny slit and Jack sucked at it gently, savoring the crimson nectar that flowed from neck. Vivienne stirred slightly. Jack ceased drinking her blood and grabbed Etienne to exit her room. Vivienne stirred again, slowly waking up. She looked towards the window and saw that it was opened more than she left it before going to sleep. She felt a sharp pain in her neck. She leapt from the bed and went to the vanity mirror, though her next was painful, she saw no marks. She raced towards the window, closed it completely and went back to her bed.

Buffy and Cordilla slowly drove down Ogontz street. Buffy scanned the area looking for the vampire she was chasing earlier. Cordillia complained about driving along the dull street searching for the vampire.

"Just keep driving. I know she went this way." Buffy said.

"Ew, this neighborhood gives me the creeps, I don't see why you asked me to drive you around on patrol."

They drove past Nona's house and noticed Etienne and Jack climbing down the tree. Buffy told her to stop the car. She sprang out of the car and ran after Etienne, who was lagging behind.

"Hey pal, trick-or-treating is not for another 5 months!" she said, glowering at his vampiric face.

Etienne dodged her attack and punched her in the stomach. She bounced back from the attack by delivering a round house kick to the face, followed by a low kick to the shin. Jack hid in the shadows, calling out to Etienne.

"Forget the girl, we have to get out of here now!" he hissed.

Etienne quickly rose fromthe ground and ran around the back with lightning speed, which hindered Buffy from going afterhim. Before they escaped she vaguely saw Jack in the shadows, particularly the back of his head. She raced to the car and asked Cordillia to drive her home.

After Cordillia dropped her off, Buffy stealthily slipped around the back of her house and climbed into the window of her bedroom. The night light gave a hint of illumination to her room. She noticed a dark figure in the corner. She moved slowly towards the lamp on the night table and quickly flicked the switch, steadfast to attack whoever intruded her room. The increased brightness in the room revealed that it was Angel standing in the corner. She sighed in relief and walked towards him.

"Hey." she said softly. "What are you doing here?"

"I was worried and I thought I'd stop by. I've been waiting for almost an hour now." Buffy plopped down on her bed and tugged at the laces of her sneakers.

"I ran into a snag while I was out patrolling. There's nothing to worry about." Angel noticed that she sounded pre-occupied and her brow was furrowed as if she was deep in thought. He seated himself next to her, trying to read her expression.

"Is there something else?" Angel said.

"It's nothing." Buffy sighed. "I was thinking about this guy..."

"Guy? What guy?" Angel interrupted, he stood up and threw her a suspicious look.

"I don't mean just any guy." Buffy patted the spot next to him, signaling for him to sit down. "Well, there's this guy, a singer named Jackie P. who supposed to be hot in New York, who's playing at our school dance tomorrow night." Angel returned to his spot next to her. He scratched his forehead confused by what she was telling him.

"I think he's a vampire." her tone was solemn and serious. Angel leaned back and saw the worry in her eyes.

"What makes you think that?" he asked.

"Well, I saw him in the day time, but he has this vibe. Plus, I saw two vampires while on patrol and I noticed that one of them had the same hair as this guy."

"Hair?" Angel said.

"Well, yeah. This guy's hair is this big Afroey type deal with these curly thingies sticking out, sort of like he hasn't combed it in a while. If he is, it's the last thing I need right now." Angel pondered over Buffy's description. It didn't fit any of the other vampires that he's encountered lately.

"I have an idea, why don't I tag along to this dance and I can check him out." he said.

"That's perfect!" she said after a moment of contemplative silence. "Vampires can always sniff each other out. The dance is from 8 to 11 tomorrow night. We can hitch a ride with my friend Nona and her sister." She kissed him on the lips and walked him towards the window, where he exited, telling her that he'll see her tomorrow night.

Buffy and Angel, coupled with Willow and Oz rode with Nona and Vivienne to the dance. She started to wonder if her idea was sound, since they were almost two hours late for the dance and the sisters were arguing constantly in the front seat. Vivienne sped down the streets of Sunnydale to reach the school. She abruptly stopped the car and checked her face in the side mirror. She left the car smoothing down her skirt and checking her high heeled sandals. She fussed at Nona the entire time, blaming her for being late. The two of them walked up the steps, still griping as the other two couples looked on, shaking their heads. After giving the attendant their tickets, they raced into the hall. Vivienne squeezed past the other five to catch a glimpse of Jack onstage. The front row was mobbed with students as the swayed to the beat of his music. The song 'Sumthin' Sumthin'' filled the dance hall and moved even the most arrhythmic attendants to sway to the music. Vivienne remained in the back of the hallway with Buffy and the others, staring in awe as Jack worked the crowd. The notice Xander leaning against the wall with a dour expression.

"Where's Cordillia?" Buffy asked.

"Up there." he answered pointing to the rest of the crowd. Jack finished the song and the crowd went into a frenzy. He thanked the crowd and made his way offstage to join the attendants. He sensed that Vivienne was here, but couldn't see her amongst the crowd of young girls fluttering around him. Vivienne watched him float through the crowd, annoyed by the girls fawning all over him. Cordillia couldn't take his hands off him, running her finger through his afro as she gushed over his performance. He didn't pay much attention to her or the rest of the girls as he searched for Vivienne. As we made his way through the crowd his spotted her in the back of the dance hall. She inched her way towards him, hoping to break through the sea of girls that surrounded him. Jack finally made a motion to remove the crowd.

"Excuse me for a second." he said masterfully. The young women, including Cordillia made a path for him as he walked towards her. As he approached her, he visually drank in the beautiful black outfit she wore; the pareo skirt with an off-center split that ended at her mid-thigh and rested four inches from her waist revealing her taut stomach. A spaghetti strapped top hugged her chest under a translucent blouse. She was in awe upon sight of him. Her eyes were locked upon the translucent black shirt teased the eyes with of glimpse of his chest. She approached him slowly, apprehensive that he would think of her as one those fops that clung to him.

"You look lovely." he said. He slowly wrapped his arm around her waist. She could see the twinkle in his eyes as he looked at her.

"Thank you." she said bashfully. He ran his fingers through her curly bangs and he traced the French twist in her hair.

Buffy, Angel and Xander stood against the wall looking at the rest of the students as they danced. Xander had a dour expression due to Cordillia's fawning over Jack.

"Maybe it's the hair." he said smartly. "Maybe if I get that Bob Marley, Superfly afro thingy, I could score with the chicks." Angel rolled his eyes at him after hearing his statement. He looked over at Vivienne and the mysterious singer who towered over her. He recognized him instantly, cursing to himself upon sight of him. Jack saw him out of the corner of his eye; they both exchanged a look of shock.

"That's Jackie P." Buffy whispered in his ear. Angel didn't react to her; he continued to stare at Jack.

"Are you okay?" she asked.

"Take me to the library, now!" he turned towards her and grabbed her shoulders.

"Why?"

"Please just come with me now!" he grabbed her hand and ran out of the dance hall towards the library. The two of them raced down the hall towards the double doors of the library. Angel burst through the doors and leapt over the split level railing, running frantically between the shelves.

"What's the matter?" she asked.

"Where's the African-American section?" he blurted out. Buffy ran behind the desk to look at the floor plan of the library. She gave him directions towards the section and then left the counter to join him. When she arrived, he feverishly scanned the section, asking himself under his breath where a book was. She tried to ask what he was looking for but he shushed her, still searching until he found the book on the lower right side of the shelf. He snatched a small purple book from the shelf, which read La Poeme Noire. He flipped through the pages of the book, cursing that he couldn't find what he was looking for. He then checked the table of contents, he flipped through the pages again and found what he was looking for.

"Angel, what is going on?" she asked sternly. She noticed the page that Angel turned to read "Ma Belle Arielle" at the top, with verses written in French. There were two drawings on the bottom of page. One was of a light complected African-American woman. The other was a picture of a young man who looked similar to Jack.

"So is he a vampire?" she asked.

"Yes," he answered, not looking at her but staring at the two pictures. "and I know who he is."

"Well?" she said, waiting for him to explain his relationship with Jack. Angel took a deep breath. He slid down to the floor, leaning his back against the shelf. Buffy sat down next to him. She was confused by his reaction and tried to read his face for any insight of his sudden change of mood.

"I spent some time in New Orleans a hundred and fifty years ago." he started. "I knew about Jack at the time. His real name is Jean Jacques Patelle. He was a poet and composer but he tuned harpsichords for a living. I stayed with a family that had a young woman named Arielle working for them. She and Jack were Gens de Couleur, free colored people during slavery times. The family I stayed with as well Arielle's family wanted me to take her as a kept woman, which was common back in those days."

"I see." she said slowly, looking at Arielle's picture again. Angel put her arm around her and looked into her eyes as reassurance.

"Don't worry she didn't mean anything to me." he said. "But Jean Jacques was in love with her and would let anyone stand in his way. He didn't have as much money as I had at the time, plus he had a heart condition. I heard rumors that he was sired by a woman so he wouldn't die." Angel turned away from her briefly.

"To make a long story short, he did the same thing I did to Drucilla. After she was sired and found out that he killed her family. She burned down her house which spread around several blocks. The fire almost destroyed half of the city."

Buffy raised herself upon hearing the story. She held her head, pacing a few steps around the shelf.

"We have to get your friend's sister away from him." he said.

"I know." he said. "But how can I explain this to her. She doesn't even know I'm a slayer."

"You have to do something!" he said lifting himself up. He took her hand and the exited through the library. "If you don't tell her what's going on, she's in a lot of trouble."

Vivienne nudged Jack to break him away from whatever entranced him.

"Jack?" she said, talking over the music that started playing after he finished the set.

"What?" he said, breaking out of his pre-occupied state of Angel and Buffy leaving the dance.

"You're a million miles away." she said.

"I'm...sorry, I thought the guy in black was someone I knew." he said slowly. Vivienne turned around and saw the backs of Angel and Buffy dashing out of the dance hall.

"He gives me that creeps." she whispered. "There's just something about him that's weird."

Jack paused for a moment and then snickered at her statement. He placed his arms around her waist; his hands embraced the small of her back. Vivienne squirmed slightly when she felt his hands. She gingerly placed her hands on his shoulders, gently squeezing them to savor the tightness. The next song was slow tune. The lights slowly dimmed and a third of the dancers left the floor. Vivienne tried to figure out the name of the song and where she remembered it.

"Remember this song?" Jack whispered. Vivienne didn't answer right away since she still tried to place the song. The song had a brief moment of silence, and then the beat changed.

"It's Moments in Love!" she cried. "I haven't heard this song in years!"

"Wanna dance?" Jack whispered in her ear.

"Yes!" she answered.

Jack lead her to the floor. He pressed her against him and moved slowly to the beat. She slowly placed her head on his chest, slowly nuzzling against his soft hair and breathing in the scent of his body mixed with a fragrance of pine and citrus. Jack rested his head her shoulder. He savored the scent of Jasmine and Fresia that rested on her neck. His mouth was close to the side of her throat. It was so easy to take her, even in front of the crowd, he thought. His hands caressed the small of her back, and moved to the front of her torso, rubbing the soft skin around her waist and stomach. Vivienne started to feel numb under his touch, but she welcomed his smooth hands on her body. She removed her right hand from aroundhis neck and stroked his chest, lightly caressing the left breast and gently running her fingers through his hair. She felt his breath against her neck and goosebumps slowly formed on her arms and neck. The melody was like a blanket around them, warming them as they moved in time with the sensual melody. Jack slowly lifted his head and moved her head from his shoulder. He pressed his lips against her, gently at first, but soon applying more pressure. His lips felt soft and moist; she indulged in every second of feeling his lips. The song faded out and Jack slowly pulled his lips away. Vivienne's eyes remained closed. She still felt the numbness in her body and she vaguely heard the next song that played. She still held on the to memory of Jack's kiss. Jack leaned down and whispered lowly in her ear.

"What are you doing later? She slowly rose from her catatonic state and realized where she was. She looked around, slightly embarrassed by the display she and Jack must have made while dancing.

"Huh...wha...?" she said softly.

"I said, what are you doing later on. The band and I are going out later, wanna come?" She finally landed in a state of reality and processed his question.

"Oh, I'd love to but I can't. I have to go." she moved away from him slowly, but he still held his grip on one of his hands.

"C'mon' it's only 10:51 the dance is still going on." he said.

"I can't. I have to pull an all nighter for mid-terms tomorrow." she said, placing one her hands on his.

"Viv..." he cooed. "C'mon, don't go Cinderella on me." he teased, approaching her slowly. She desperately wanted to go with him. The seductive twinkle in his dark eyes didn't assure her decision.

"I really wish I could join you, but if I want to graduate this semester...would you walk me to my car?" Jack sighed, and teased her by grudgingly saying that he would walk her. He put his arm around her waist and headed from the doors, when Langois called after him.

"Jack, we have to load the instruments in the van." he said. Jack turned and nodded to him, telling him that he would be there shortly, then he turned to Vivienne.

"I have to go myself, got another gig at 12:30" he said. Vivienne grasped both his hands and held them tightly. She didn't want to miss the chance of seeing him again, but she had to leave. She reached inside of her purse and pulled out a small business card.

"This is my home phone number and my pager." she said.

Jack looked at the card and folded over his palms. He kissed her on the cheek, telling her that he would definitely see her again, sooner that she thought. She waved to him as she rushed out of the double doors into the hallway. Jack looked at the card once more while walking with Langois backstage. He balled up the small piece of paper and shoved it in his pocket. Langois looked at the gesture, stunned.

"I thought you wanted her." he said.
