Part Three

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

*----------*

Later that night, Buffy was on patrol at the cemetery when Angel came up behind her.

"Geez...you're still pretty good at scaring the hell out of me."

"Sorry." Angel was still keeping his distance. "I heard Cordy's leaving."

"Yeah. Off to LA. Maybe she'll like it there better than I did." She turned back and looked around.

"Maybe. I heard Erinne left too."

"Yeah." Buffy really wasn't in the mood to hear anymore about his twisted sister.

"You know, she isn't that bad. She's just had a rough life."

"So."

Angel could tell she didn't want to talk about Erinne any more, so he changed the subject. "I heard Spike plans on attacking soon. You ready for him?"

"As ready as I'll ever be." She didn't want to talk about that either. Couldn't he tell that she just wanted to be here, with him, like it used to be. She turned back and looked at him. "Why are you so far away? I'm not the one who bites."

"It's just...I don't want anything to happen."

"What could possibly happen? You're not still worried about that little curse are you?" She inched closer to him.

"Yes, as a matter of fact, I am. Look Buffy, I feel the same way you do, but I don't know what would happen...." He backed up into a head- stone. "I should leave." And with that, he ran off, leaving Buffy standing there dumbfounded.

-----

It was late. There was obviously nothing happening tonight. So, Buffy started to walk home. She was glad that her mom was okay with the whole slayer thing. Well, she wasn't completely okay with it, but she was at least accepting it, and that was good, as long as -

"I guess the night was getting a little too peaceful," Buffy said to herself. "Let's see what annoying vampire is out making trouble for himself." She was about to walk towards the noise when Spike came out of the shadows and grabbed her.

"Not just any annoying vampire."

*----------*

The garden (where Acathla's statue is). Drusilla is sitting on a ledge, looking out a window, when Spike comes in dragging Buffy behind him.

"Look, pet. I've brought you something to cheer you up." He tosses the slayer against the ledge.

"Oh, Spike! She's perfect!" Dru dropped down next to the slayer and looked at her. Buffy sat up as Drusilla walked over to Spike.

"I knew you'd like her, love." He watched her walk around him.

"What's the big idea? I thought you guys left town?" Buffy was now standing, leaning against the ledge.

"Well, we did. But we just missed Sunnydale so much. You and your little friends, never around to ruin our fun, it left a big hole in my heart." He stood there, with Dru looking over his shoulder at Buffy.

"It must not have been a big hole, seeing as you barely have a heart at all."

"Oh, that's a good one."

"What are you waiting for Spike? You obviously brought me here to kill me, so why don't you just get it done and over with." She stood firmly in front of him.

"That would take all the fun out of it. I just love to see you squirm." All though it was quite tempting to dispose of her now.

"Come on. You don't do it now, I could easily escape come sunrise. Then where would the fun be in running around trying to catch me again each night. It will take until way after I graduate from college and we'll never get out of each others disgusting faces."

"You've got a point there." He looked at Drusilla with a questioning look, who as still leaning on his shoulder. She nodded and went over to sit on the ledge again and watch the fun. "Alright then. Let's get this done."

He pulled a sword from out behind him. Buffy thought to herself. Well, at least she had some experience behind her. She quickly surveyed the room and found a sword, *behind* Spike. She flipped over his head and grabbed the sword and turned back around just in time to block Spike's swing.

"En garde."

They circled around the room as Drusilla looked on in fascination. They each took what seemed to be alternative swings at each other. Finally, Spike brought it to a close by knocking Buffy's sword out of her hand and far enough away to insure her not reaching for it.

She began backing up into a corner as he came closer. Then she suddenly stopped and stood still. He stopped too. What the heck did she think she was doing? There was no place she could go, nothing she could do. And yet, the thought of yet another slayer surrendering to him was quite a satisfaction.

Spike drew the sword back and was inches away from ridding himself of the slayer when someone pushed her off to the side. He was caught so off guard that he continued with the sword in its original direction. It hit the stranger who immediately fell back into the shadows of the corner it had come from.

Spike backed up to the ledge where Dru still sat, perched and staring. He then turned to look at the slayer, who was just as shocked as he was. Well, he sure as hell wasn't going to stick around and see what her reaction would be. He grabbed Dru and the two ran out.

Buffy watched as they ran out of the garden and then slowly and cautiously walked over to the stranger in the corner. When she leaned in to see if the person was still breathing, she only heard mumbling. Buffy then leaned back on her heels to try and figure out who this person was.

As light from the now rising sun came pouring through the window, she saw Erinne, slumped down on the floor.

Thursday. It was another hum-drum afternoon. The normal gang was gathered in the library. Xander once again had his head on the table. Willow was once again working away on the computer. Giles once again had his nose stuck into a book.

Buffy walked through the library doors, so quietly that no one noticed until she had reached the table.

"Buffy. Where have you been?" Willow voiced everyone's concern.

"Yeah. We didn't see you at all last night," Xander added, barely lifting his head.

"I was on patrol. Didn't do much. Oh, and I was kidnapped by Spike, got into a huge sword fight with him, and he almost killed me."

This got everyone's attention.

"And you're alright, yes?" Giles walked out of his office toward the table.

"Obviously Giles," Buffy answered, sitting in a chair across from Willow.

"So, what happened? I mean, how did you get away?" Willow asked, looking at her friend from over her computer.

"Well, I was right at the end of Spike's sword and he was about ready to shish-ka-bob me when someone came out of the shadows, took the hit instead, and scared Spike and Dru off."

"Angel?" Willow still peering over the computer.

"No...the sword wouldn't have hurt him....it was Erinne."

"Oh." was all Willow could come up with in response.

The library went silent. No one was sure what to say. Sure, Erinne was a nice kid, and all she ever did was help them out. But Buffy wasn't exactly best of friends with her and they just didn't know what to say.

"It's too bad. I was beginning to like the kid."

Buffy looked up. That voice was familiar, but she wasn't quite sure who's it was. It wasn't any of her other friends, because they were looking around too.

And then they all saw him. The source of the somewhat mournful comment.

Angel was standing in front of the library doors. It seemed strange, considering it was broad daylight outside.

Buffy got up and walked towards him as he walked towards her. She stopped a few feet away from him, trying not to make him uncomfortable. But he kept coming forward, and didn't stop until he was practically on top of her.

"Nice to see you, again." And with that he kissed her gently on her lips.

In the next few weeks, everything seemed to calm down.

Buffy and her mom straightened things out with Snyder and Buffy was finally un-suspended.

Willow was spending alot of quality time with Oz, since he hadn't been around that much. That and he was getting ready to graduate, and although he was planning on staying home for college, they just wanted to be together.

Xander was still pretty upset about Cordelia, who was definitely moving to Los Angeles. She promised to keep in touch though. And they were even going to try a long-distance relationship, for as long as they could handle one.

Giles was quite content with just having had the chance to formally say good-bye to Jenny. He was happy, which made the rest of the slayer/ slayerettes happy.

Even Angel and Buffy were getting on with their lives. Angel had decided that it would be best for him to go to LA too (and he didn't bother telling Cordelia that it was the location of yet another hellmouth). He was glad that Buffy saw it his way.

So everyone was happy. Everything was getting back to as close to normal as possible.

Everything was great. Except Erinne.

The gang had gone back to the garden the next morning to get Erinne. But when she got there, her body was gone. They had planned on a funeral, which wasn't quite possible without a body. So they just said a few words of good-bye and went on.

-----

Angel was sitting on a bench across the street from the Bronze. He had seen the group go in there earlier that night for a party they were having for Cordelia. They were now just getting ready to leave.

"They're always so cheerful and fun-loving, don't you think?"

He turned to see the owner of the sarcastic remark and nearly fell off the bench.

"What the heck? I thought you were dead?!?!" He just sat there and stared in amazement.

"Yeah well, I was dead to begin with. It was basically one good deed for another type deal." Erinne sat there with a silly grin on her face from the jump she had given him.

"You did a good deed? I'd like to see the poor chum who got your help."

"You got a mirror?"

He looked back at her. "How?"

"You remember the whole one life for another deal, right?" He nodded. "Well, basically, it was my life for yours."

"But then you would be dead. You were run through with a sword!"

"And for helping one that I absolutely hated, I got another lease on life....sort of." She gave him another goofy grin.

"That explains alot. (pause) No it doesn't!" Angel turned back to her just as she handed him a letter.

"That explains everything. A lot better then I could verbally, anyway."

They both turned back to where the small group was now dissipating.

"Heard you were moving to LA?"

"Yup. The land of the stars. And I also get stuck with Cordelia." He obviously didn't like that fact. He stood up. "Which reminds me, I have to finish packing."

"Have fun!" She gave him a nice big wave.

"You know, if you're staying around town, you could stay at my place. I'm not taking everything and I do need someone to watch it for me."

"Sure."

He tossed her a set of keys and began to walk towards the street. Then he turned back and came and stood in front of her. "By the way, thanx." He leaned down and kissed her forehead, then turned, walked down past the Bronze and around the corner out of sight.

"You're welcome." Erinne got up and walked down the street in the opposite direction.
