Part One

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As Angelus continues to think about what use a slayer with amnesia could do for him; he picked Buffy and started climbing back up the cliff side and out of the cemetery.

The next day as Giles and Willow discussed what they think might have caused Buffy not to come to school, the phone rings.

"Hello, Rupert Giles speaking," Giles said.

"I suppose you are wondering where your precious Buffy is at the moment?" replied a distorted voice.

"Who…who is this?" Giles asked.

"Don't worry she's in evil hands," the voice sarcasticly assured.

"Whoever you are, I'm telling you now if you as much as touch a hair on Buffy's head I'll kill you myself!" Giles threatened.

"Ooh…I'm scared old man, what you going to do; throw a book at me?" the voice said.

"I can do more than that…" Giles said as Willow interrupted.

"No you can't Giles, and who are you talking to?" Willow said.

Before Giles could reply, the voice spoke again.

"The next time you see your beloved Buffy, she'll be holding a knife to your throat, she's not as innocent as you believe," the voice said replacing the phone to the receiver.

Giles hung up his own phone, put his hands his pocket and gingerly turned to Willow with a solemn expression on his face.

"Giles, what's wrong, where's Buffy," Willow asked, concerned.

"I...I don't know, but worry we will find her," Giles said

"I hope you meant don't worry," Willow cautiously tried to correct.

"Yes, that's what I meant," Giles said.

"Okay, so what do we do now?" Willow asked.

"We try to figure out who was on the other end of the phone," Giles said.

"My guess is that it was Angel," Willow assumed

"I would normally agree, but this person's voice was distorted, and un-Angel like." Giles queried.

"You can easily do that Giles, just use a voice synthesiser," Willow said.

"What is that?" Giles asked.

"It changes the pitch of your voice," Willow answered. "Or you can just retrace the call and see who answers."

"Good idea, I think I'll do that," Giles said.

Angelus glanced over to the sleeping Buffy who was on his bed in his apartment. He went to his wardrobe and took out a silver shirt and leather jacket for Buffy to wear. He decided that he would drop by later with Buffy at her home to pick up some clothes for her. While he was putting the clothes into a bag, the phone rang and Buffy started to stir.

"How stupid do they think I am?" Angelus said, as he knew that Giles would be on the other end of the line. He went over to the bed and carefully lifted Buffy out and started to make his way to the mansion. Giles sighed and put the receiver down. He looked at Willow as a look of sheer terror seeped onto his ageing face.

"Well, at least we know who has her, but how do we know where they are, the factory was burnt down, so they moved to a new location," Giles pondered.

"Well, we know that she's still alive, so Angelus must need her for something, otherwise he would have killed her by now," Willow said.

"That leaves us with the question of what he has planned for her," Giles said.

"Do you want me to get 'the' bag?" Willow said heading towards the weapon's bag. Giles nodded his head in approval.

Angelus slowly trudged through the repulsive sewers with Buffy over one shoulder and his bag in the other hand. "Finally," he said as he saw the light drifting through the sewer entrance of the mansion.

He walked up the stairs quietly so as to not make a sound, which would alert Dru and Spike to his arrival with an unconscious slayer. He came to his room and kicked open the door. He laid her on the bed with the clothes hanging on a nearby chair and closed the door behind him as he started to walk out.

As he turned around he saw Dru standing there with questioning look on her face.

"Dru, so nice to see you but what are you doing up here?" Angelus said unsure if she had seen him go in with the slayer.

"Just showing Miss Edith your room, Angel" Dru said as she was about to go through his doorway. Angelus caught her arm and pulled her back.

"Tsk, tsk…" Angelus said shaking his head.

"Have you got a surprise for me Angel?" Dru asked curious as to what was behind his door.

"Yes Dru, and like all surprises, you don't want to ruin it by peeking," Angelus said as Dru's face lit up with excitement.

"Is it a big one Angel, I like big surprise's?" Dru inquired.

"That would be giving too much away," Angelus said as a smirk appeared on his face. Dru clapped her hands and cooed, as she cuddled Miss Edith and skipped down the stairs to tell Spike the good news.

"Don't tell Rollerboy, it's our little secret," Angelus said as Dru shrieked with delight and said, "Did you hear that Miss Edith, we know a secret that we can't tell Spike."

Just as Dru disappeared from sight, Angelus heard a stir from behind his bedroom door. He quickly rushed in and closed the door again so nobody could hear. He looked toward the bed and saw that Buffy was waking up. He walked over to the bed and sat down in the chair opposite.

Buffy opened her eyes, saw the stranger (Angelus), and sat up abruptly in bed. "Who are you…where am I…and what am I doing here?" Buffy asked.

"Hello Buffy, you're awake," Angelus said.

"Buffy? Who's Buffy, and who are you?" Buffy asked still half asleep.

"Honey, you're Buffy and I'm your intimate friend, Angel. Don't you remember me?" Angelus sardonically answered.

"No I don't remember you, but you do have an enchanting name. Where are we?" Buffy asked still confused.

She began to sit up and started to look more thoroughly at the room and at her unusually attractive friend.

"That knock on the head must've done more damage than I thought Buff, we'll have to see what we can do," Angelus murmured.

"Angel," Druscilla sang from the bottom of the stairs.

"Yes Dru," Angelus called.

"I was just getting hungry, I feel like a nice toddler, about four maybe. Do you want to come?" Druscilla replied.

"Wait for me in the front foyer, I'll be down soon," Angelus said.

"Alright Angel. Ooh were going to have fun tonight," Druscilla sang to herself skipping away.

After Angel made sure that Druscilla had gone, he turned to Buffy and told her that he had to go out, but he would bring her some food when he got back.

As they left, Buffy got up and put on the clothes that were hanging on the chair. She already had leather pants and a tight bra strap black halter neck top on. Buffy quietly came out to have a look around. Even though she had lost her memory, Buffy was still her inquisitive self.

Spike had come back from his meal and spotted Buffy warily coming down the stairs. His first thought was that she had come to get Angelus, but when he saw the vague expression on her face he thought differently.

"Buffy!" Spike yelled, but Buffy didn't respond. He wheeled over to the stairs and stopped so that she saw him.

"Buffy, are you alright?" Spike asked knowing that something had happened to her.

"Who are you, Angel didn't tell me there was another man here. I assume there is a girl here, because I heard a woman's voice," Buffy said looking down at his wheelchair.

"What happened to you?" Buffy asked.

"I was about to ask you the same question," Spike said, as Buffy looked at him puzzled.

"What do you mean, nothing happened to me," Buffy said.

"Okay, what has our friend 'Angel' told you?" Spike asked.

While Buffy explained everything that Angelus had told her, Angelus and Druscilla were scanning Sunnydale's playgrounds for kids.

"Angel, do you think that we'll find any little children?" Druscilla asked.

"You know Dru, that's a good question, my answer is n…" Angelus started to answer as Druscilla cut him off.

"Shh Angel, there's a little girl over there, don't scare her off," Druscilla said.

"Where?" Angelus asked, doubting what Druscilla was saying.

"Over there, near the swing," Druscilla answered.

"There is no swi… oh, there is a swing and that little girl looks like she's scared. I love it, the fear; it makes the blood so hot. Dance with me," Angelus asked creeping behind Druscilla's back and reaching for her hand.

"Oh Angel, your so…so…" Druscilla started.

"Enticing?" Angelus tried to answer.

"Maybe," Druscilla said. Angelus swept her up into a dance whistling 'Amazing Grace' and led her towards the little girl, who was by this time staring expectantly at them.

"Did my daddy send you to pick me up?" The little girl asked. Obviously she had no idea what kind of future she was about to receive.

"No, your daddy doesn't know us," Druscilla sang in her sweetest voice.

"Then are you undercover police?" the girl asked, starting to get confused about what these two strange people wanted.

"No, the police don't know us either," Druscilla said patiently waiting for Angelus to do or say something.

Buffy was sitting on the ground trying to absorb this new information that Spike had told her.

"Look, how about you go and join your…boyfriend, on his little hunting party with my girl Dru, oh, and tell Angel I sent you," Spike said smiling as Buffy went to leave.

Angelus started to walk behind the girl when he saw Buffy walking aimlessly around.

"Dru, I have to go, take care of the little girl for me," Angelus asked Druscilla as he started to leave. "Oh and remember to leave me some."

"Where you going Angel?" Druscilla replied.

"To work on your surprise," Angel said tauntingly.

"Ooh, sounds like fun. I'll save you some," Druscilla sang approaching the girl.

"What does he mean "save me some'?" the little girl said, getting anxious about the strange women that kept looking at her neck.

"Buffy!" Angelus said moving closer to Buffy after making sure that no one was around.

"Angel. It is you isn't it?" Buffy said walking to him. Angelus ran up to her, picked her up into his arms and spun her around. Buffy smiled and clasped her hands tightly around his neck, for some reason she was afraid of falling…and felt as if she'd fallen before.

Angelus unwrapped her hands from around his neck and placed her on the ground.

"Buffy, how did you find your way here?" Angelus asked suspicious.

"Your friend, Spike, the cute one with the white hair. He told me where you'd be and how to find you," Buffy said looking over his shoulder at Druscilla who was still talking to the girl.

Suddenly she had a flashback.

* She was in a library, and there was an older man with glasses, a girl with long red hair and a book in front of her. It was open and on the page was a picture of the girl she had just seen with the child. *

"Buffy, are you ok?" Angelus said stepping in front of her and placing his hands on her shoulders stooping down to look at her face to face.

"Huh. Oh, I'm fine, I just had a feeling of deja vu," Buffy said as Angelus looked worried.

"What kind of deja vu?" Angelus said.

"That girl over there, do I know her?" Buffy said pointing at Druscilla. Angelus spun around then turned back to face Buffy.

"That's Dru, she lives with Spike and us. But that's not important, what's important is that you get home and sleep," Angelus said kissing the top of Buffy's head. But Buffy wasn't easily misled. She still had a strong feeling that there was more to Dru than what Angelus had told her. She started to walk towards Dru as Angelus tried to stop her by grabbing her elbow. Buffy just shrugged it off and continued to stroll towards her.

While she was walking she stepped on a twig and alerted Dru's attention. Angelus quickly grabbed Buffy around the waist and spun around so that Dru would only see his back. Buffy twisted and turned in Angelus' grasp trying vainly to see Dru. Dru just figured he was messing and turned to go home to Spike. As soon as Dru had gone, Angelus slackened his hold on Buffy's waist. Buffy walked out of his arms and stopped a few feet in front of him. Angelus came up to her and held her hand as they started to walk to her house. While they were walking, Buffy turned around and saw the limp body of the girl, who she thought was dead but was still breathing.

As Buffy was picking out her clothes and throwing them into a suitcase, she saw a large silver cross dangling on a hook. She walked over to it and tenderly picked it up. Suddenly she felt dizzy and let it go.

* The attractive stranger held out a velvet blue box and opened it revealing a silver cross. *

Buffy shook her head to clear her mind, and quickly grabbed the cross and put it in her pocket. Buffy climbed out of her bedroom window with the suitcase and grabbed Angelus' hand for support. He jumped to the ground and carefully lifted her down.

Back at the library, Willow and Giles were getting it on, with the books' that is. They were looking up strange occurrences on slayer disappearances.

"Giles we're never gonna find Buffy if we just sit around reading carbon dated books. We should get off our ass' and find her!" Willow said getting a little worked up.

"Sorry…I'm just worried about her Giles. Out of all the people who could have found her it had to be 'him'!" Willow said annoyed.

"Don't worry Willow, we'll find her," Giles said more determined to find Buffy as they left the school.

Buffy and Angelus returned to the mansion. Angelus suggested that Buffy should lie down. As Buffy went up the stairs to go lie down, Spike came rolling into the foyer. Angelus heard the squeak of the old metal and turned around to look down at Spike.

"Why did you let her out of the house and what did you tell her?" Angelus discreetly yelled.

"Why are you shouting at me? I'm not her bloody babysitter!" Spike angrily replied.

"Just tell me what you told her," Angelus demanded.

"Why? You afraid she'll leave you loverboy?" Spike teased. Angelus growled at him and stormed up the stairs to Buffy's new room. When he got there he saw Buffy asleep on his bed. He came over and removed the hair from her face. He grabbed the covers and covered her up before getting a pillow to sleep on the floor.

Willow and Giles were in the graveyard looking for any evidence of where Buffy had gone. While Willow was searching on the ground, she saw some fresh blood on a nearby tombstone. She came closer to it to have a better look.

"Giles, get over here!" Willow yelled waving Giles over. Giles came and crouched down to see what Willow was looking at. He took a scraper out of his pocket and scraped some blood off the tombstone before putting it in a plastic bag. He was going to get it analysed to see whose blood it was.

"Willow, do you have an idea of when Joyce will be back," Giles said getting up.

"Buffy said that she was on some art exhibition in LA. She's not gonna be back for a long time. Buffy was actually supposed to spend a month with me," Willow said as Giles nodded.

Buffy woke and sat up in bed. She looked around and spotted Angelus still asleep on the floor. She got up and got changed into black pedal pushers and a lilac singlet top. Buffy was about to open the blinds when Spike rolled and stopped her.

"That would not be a good idea, you see love, us vampires aren't friends with the sun, or holy water or pointy wooden stakes…" Spike said as Buffy reached into the pocket of her leather jacket. She pulled out the cross as Spike hissed and wheeled back.

"Did I forget to mention cross', because they're also a big no no when it comes to us," Spike said as he slowly approached Buffy being careful not to wake Angelus or get near the silver cross. Buffy slipped it back into her pocket.

"Spike, could I ask you some questions, not in here though?" Buffy said as she and Spike left the room and went into his.

"What do vampires eat?" Buffy asked. Spike looked down at the floor contemplating what he should say.

"This may come as a bit of shock to you, but vampires drink human blood," Spike said.

"But do they kill them?" Buffy asked. Spike diverted his eyes, which gave Buffy her answer.

"Not all the time, well I don't. But your friend Angel does most of the time. Oops, what…have…I…said. You weren't supposed to know that, don't tell anyone, it's our little secret," Spike said as he wheeled off with a smirk on his face. Buffy stormed out and went to find the little.

Angelus woke up when he heard Spike crash into something. He looked over to the bed, saw that Buffy had gotten up and raced down the stairs. He saw Spike and grabbed him out of the chair by his collar.

"Where is she!" Angelus yelled.

"I don't know, she's not my responsibility," Spike said as Angelus dropped him into the chair and left. Luckily it was still dark outside.

Buffy was searching through the park trying to find the little girl. Then in the corner of her eye she saw her. Buffy ran over to the girl and carefully picked her up. The girl was still breathing. Buffy started to run, it was almost 2am and she wanted to get her stuff before Angelus woke up. If he did anything like that Dru did to this child, she didn't want to know him.

As Buffy was running she saw Angelus go into a nearby ally. She spotted a small play tunnel and placed the girl in it. As far as she was concerned, it was up to her to protect the child.

Angelus saw Buffy and began to run. Buffy turned around and started to run. Angelus picked up his pace and closed the gap. He was right behind her and he put his arms around her chest so she couldn't hit him. Buffy struggled to get free, but failed. She finally broke out of his hold and turned around.

"Get away from me," Buffy said menacingly.

"What do you mean! What have I done?" Angel asked, wondering what was going on.

"I don't want you to come near me, ever again. Do you hear me?" Buffy said.

"What have I done Buff. Tell me, please?" Angelus begged. Buffy spun to face him.

"You take innocent lives. You take pleasure in tormenting people. You ruin lives. You take away people's right to live. You're a vampire! Must I go on?" Buffy said. Angelus pulled the most adorably innocent puppy-dog face he could muster.

* Buffy was about to shoot Angel with the crossbow when he stood up with a puppy-dog expression and said, "Don't go soft on me now." *

Buffy suddenly felt weak at the knees and walked closer to him.

"Forgive me?" Angelus said sweetly. Buffy walked into his embrace, as a look of victory came onto Angelus' face.

Willow was sitting at the table in her kitchen unable to sleep. The phone rang and Willow answered it.

"Hello," Willow said.

"Willow, what are you still doing up?" Giles asked.

"I couldn't sleep, what's the news?" Willow asked.

"Unfortunately, it's a match. The blood belonged to Buffy. I went back to the cemetery and I found some footprints near the tombstone. The high-heeled footprints belonged to Buffy, one must have belonged to Angelus, but there was one set of footprints I wasn't certain on. I remembered an article I had read which said that the demon left a peculiar mark on the ground. So I went to my trusted books and found it. They belonged to an earth demon or raeth daemos as he is most often called. I'm guessing that Buffy was fighting with him. Angelus came along, scared him off and took Buffy with him," Giles said.

"So all we have to do is find Angel and we find Buffy," Willow said hopeful as she hung up the phone and went to bed.
