Disclaimer: I do not own the characters associated with Buffy the Vampire Slayer that have been already mentioned in the show. Any other characters are mine. I claim full rights on all ideas, it is an original plot.
Author's Note: I wrote this story before we knew about Surprises and Innocence, some of things revealed are things similar to what Joss covered. My, my, how we think alike! This does cover the return of Spike and Dru, so if you want to call it my version of S/I, go ahead, but there are some major differences. Confused? You should be, read on! Oh, and don't forget feedback!

Part Four
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Buffy and Xander walked Willow home. "It's late and I need to start hunting," Buffy told Xander.
"Okay," Xander replied, "Can I help," Xander said with a smile, his eyes gleamed brightly.
"No, that's alright. I'll go solo tonight," Buffy said reassuringly. "I don't need you getting hurt," she thought.
"You mean with Angel," Xander said with a mild tone of harsh sarcasm. Xander felt a chord of jealousy run through him, "How can you care for that demonspawn. You couldn't even fall for someone human, how absurdly messed up is that," he thought, his anger not at Buffy, but at Angel.
"No, I mean *alone*. If Angel shows up, that's one thing, but I'm not going to look for him!" Buffy spoke with the same force Xander had used with his sarcasm. Her thoughts drifted to Angel, "Why hadn't he shown up tonight?"
"Okay," Xander said with disappointment at not being able to join his friend in the hunt, "see you tomorrow."
"See you," she said.
Xander and Buffy had separated their paths there, halfway to Xander's house. Now she was standing in one of Sunnydale's parks, the most common and favorite feeding grounds of the undead. Buffy looked at her watch, it read 10:25. "Come on," she thought, "I don't have all night to wait you know!"
As if an answer to her silent thought, one soon came from behind some bushes. Hearing the rustling, Buffy quickly turned around, staring at the vampire in full visage, "Well, it's about time! Do you have any idea how long I've been waiting?"
The vampire snarled, and charged Buffy from 5 ft. away. Buffy easily sidestepped the rushing demon, grabbed his closest arm, and flipped him on his back. She promptly placed the bottom of her boot across the upper chest and lower collar bone, "Why don't you guys just leave people alone," Buffy said, quipping, "It'd sure make my life a lot easier."
The demon grabbed a hold of Buffy's ankle, heaving her off of him, and causing her to land on her back. The Slayer felt a slight twinge of pain, "He's stronger than he looks," Buffy thought. Buffy was halfway up, when she noticed that the vamp was already up. Buffy quickly dove and rolled safely out of the way. The vampire had attempted to kick Buffy, but was too late.
Buffy was already standing, and delivered a side kick to the demon's head. The demon just stood there, turning to face Buffy. She delivered another kick straight to his face. The vamp just stood there, "You're not very bright, are you?" The vampire charged her again. This time, Buffy triggered a stake to slide down from a compartment in her coat. The Chosen One sidestepped, turned at a right angle to the demon, and lunged to her right, shoving the stake through his heart with two hands. For a split second, the demon's body was curved over where he had been impaled, mouth wide open, before turning to dust. Buffy took one more sweep of the park before heading home.
Buffy climbed through her bedroom window, carefully trying not to make sound. "Mom's probably asleep by now," she thought, "no need to wake her."
The next day before school, the Scooby gang was gathered in the library. Willow was the first to voice the question on everyone's mind, "Did you and Ms. Calendar find anything on stopping the prophecy?"
"No.... un-un-unfortunately," Giles said with a grim look on his face, "we researched late into the night, and found nothing specific about preventing the prophecy from coming to fruition. But, we d-did come up with a common sense approach," Giles looked at everybody.
"Well let's hear it," Cordellia said sharply, flabbergasted at why Giles was waiting.
"Stay together. Preferably in one large group, or at least in groups of two."
"Sounds like a good plan," Buffy reinforced.
"Right," Jenny said, "they'll have a harder time getting to any of you, if you stay in groups. Also, once you go home for the night, stay in. If you must go out, don't go alone."
"What about Angel," Buffy voiced with concern.
"I understand your concern about Angel," Jenny stated, "We'll call and tell him about the prophecy. But, if Angel is the vessel, he can probably take care of himself. He's survived a long time with the curse, which, evidently, has put him in opposition to the vampires. I'm sure he can take care of himself."
"But...," Buffy started.
"No! If there was ever a time to avoid Angel, tonight's the night. We don't need you risking your life, trying to protect Angel, when you have other friends who don't have any supernatural gifts, that are in as much danger. If Angel's not the one, you put whoever is at risk. And we all know what you do with Angel. Your guard's down and you are more vulnerable then. That's too great a risk," Giles demanded in a low yell.
