Resurrection, Part 4
Disclaimer: "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and all characters from the

is loosely based on the "Call of Cthulhu" role-playing game
(copyright Chaosium Inc.) and the book "Encyclopedia Cthulhiana" by
Daniel Harms. SAVE is based on the organization in the Chill
Roleplaying game (copyright Mayfair Games Inc.) and the earlier
version of the game (copyright Pacesetter, Ltd.). The character
of Hector Gonzales is loosely based on a sample character in the
Mayfair version of Chill. The character of Melissa Johnson is my
own invention.
Angel, Buffy, and Melissa moved cautiously through the underground
tunnels. They finally saw the glowing section of wall in the
distance and the eight vampires on guard. They approached the
guards, Buffy and Angel in front with stakes ready. Melissa walking
just behind them, a stake in her right hand, her other hand on an
amber pendant hanging from her neck.
Buffy staked her first opponent quickly, but was then faced with
three others. Angel was preoccupied with his three opponents, unable
to land a killing blow. A fourth vampire moved past Angel and
towards Melissa. The pendant glowed briefly as a flash of light
exploded in the vampire's face, temporarily blinding him. Melissa
took advantage of this to drive her stake home. Another person
entered the fray. A dark-haired teenage girl quickly staked two of
the vampires from behind. She then staked one of Angel's opponents
as he staked the other one. The two remaining vampires were quickly
dispatched.
Buffy and Angel stared in surprise at their new ally. Buffy began
"Faith ..."
Faith grinned "Mayor said to wish you good luck B. At least for
tonight. See you at graduation." She turned around and walked up
the tunnel the way she came.
Melissa walked over to the tunnel wall and stared at the glowing
spot. She pulled a silver knife out of her bag. Her pendant glowed
as she traced a pattern on the wall while she softly chanted. When
Melissa finished, she leaned against the wall in exhaustion, then put
the knife back in her bag and straightened up with obvious effort.
She smiled weakly "We should get back to the others. By the way,
who is Faith? And what was that remark about graduation?"
Buffy answered "Faith is a rogue Slayer who works for the Mayor. His
Ascension is supposed to happen around graduation."
Cordelia, Giles, Hector, Oz, Wesley, Willow, and Xander gathered in a
clearing near Sunnydale. Willow and Xander placed themselves in the
center, Willow holding a small metal bowl and Xander holding a knife
and a box of matches. Meanwhile Hector counted out paces around
them, carrying an eyedropper and a bottle of clear liquid. At each
pace he placed a drop of liquid on the ground. At each point of the
pentagon he placed several more drops and then motioned a person over
to stand there. He placed himself on the last point and motioned to
Willow and Xander. Xander lit the mixture in the bowl as Willow
began chanting.
As Willow finished chanting, what looked like a column of smoke
descended on her. She stretched out her arm and exclaimed in a
strange voice "Ia! Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Hastur Hali! Ia!" A bolt of
energy came from the sky and was absorbed by Willow and shot out
again from her outstretched arm. It headed into the distance and
landed somewhere in town.
Xander followed the bolt with his eyes and then turned back to
Willow. He chanted "Great Hastur. We thank you for your assistance.
You have helped us destroy the servant of your enemy. Please return
the body you have borrowed to its rightful owner."
Nothing happened for a moment. Then Willow began to change. Scales
started to appear on her face. Xander reluctantly raised his knife
and started moving it towards her. As he was about to stab her, a
column of smoke ascended from Willow towards the sky and Willow
collapsed. Xander froze and watched her uncertainly for a moment,
then he dropped his knife and made sure she was still breathing. The
others left their places and gathered around them.
Willow was still unconscious a few moments later when Angel, Buffy
and Melissa arrived. Melissa moved immediately to Willow's side.
She took Willow's hand and closed her eyes in concentration. Her
pendant glowed briefly. As the glow faded, Willow began to stir, and
Melissa gave a sigh of relief.
Willow awoke slowly. She looked around at the ring of concerned
faces. "Did it work?" she asked.
Giles answered "I think so. Are you alright?"
Willow smiled "I'm OK. Just a little tired."
Melissa nodded "You'll be fine. All you need is a good night's
sleep." She paused and continued "I could use one, too. The siphon
is closed. Both of our spells seem to have worked." She paused
again "We've all been very lucky." Melissa got to her feet slowly
and a bit unsteadily as Oz helped Willow up.
Giles then suggested "We can have a quick debriefing in the library
and after that we should all head home."
