“Angel,” Cordelia turned towards him and began to walk as fast as she could at him. “I…I can’t believe it.”
Neither can I, he thought, I didn’t ask for you, any of you to come. What do I say?
“It’s good to see you,” Angel forced out.
“Hey man,” Doyle’s Irish twang still sounded familiar to Angel after four years, “what’s with the plush offices? I thought you had a problem with charging people. You find some rich millionaires or something? Angel Investigations has sure gone up in the world since I shuffled off this mortal coil aint it.”
“This isn’t Angel Investigations anymore,” Angel informed him. “This is the LA branch of Wolfram and Hart.”
“You working for them now?” Doyle seemed shocked, “never saw that one coming.”
Cordelia turned towards Angel, “Me neither.”
“We cut a deal.”
“With who?” Cordy was as stubborn as ever.
“Senior partners.”
“Well, who else,” she answered sarcastically.
“Cordelia, after you went into the coma, things went a bit bizarre.”
“Well I can see that,” Cordelia answered, “you’re working for the evil company that made our lives a living hell for five years.”
“I know Cordelia and don’t think I didn’t take that into consideration.”
There was a moment of silence, nobody knowing where to take the conversation.
“Why didn’t you bring me back earlier?” she demanded.
“We couldn’t.” Angel looked away from her, towards the floor.
“So why am I back now?”
Angel was furious, “I don’t know. There’s a war coming.” He paused as he tried to find the words he needed to express himself. “I didn’t ask for any of you to come back. I respect you all too much.”
Everybody stiffened up.
“What did you say, man?” Doyle piped in.
“There’s a war coming.” Connor came forward. A familiar hatred in his eyes.
“Oh God, Connor. I’m so sorry.”
Connor turned to Cordelia and Doyle. “He bought us back because he needs us to fight for him.”
“And I will,” Cordelia put her hand on Angel’s arm. “Even if he does do stupid things sometimes.”
“Do you know what he did to me?”
Angel looked into Connor’s eyes. “I’m sorry.”
“He sent me to a family. A family who I loved and who loved me.” Connor walked towards Angel, “then he tore me away.”
Angel felt a tear at his eyes, “I do love you. I also understand that you can never love me and that does not make me proud but I think that I love you enough to understand that’s why I sent you away.” Angel paused, “I don’t know why you’re back and I wish to God you weren’t.”
“Well I am,” Connor spat. “And now I’m going again.”
Angel closed his eyes and realised that it was better just to let Connor go.
Connor went to the main staircase and began to descend the stairs.
Doyle came to Angel’s side, “Who the hell was that hormonal time-bomb?”
Angel simply turned and went back into the office.
Doyle raised an eyebrow and watched Angel leave. Cordelia came and rested a hand on his arm.
Angel looked over “My son.”
Cordelia and Doyle eyes widened to unnatural size.
ANGEL ANGEL ANGEL
In the office everyone was talking.
“Since when did Angel have a son?” Lorne asked.
“Why didn’t he tell us?” Fred answered.
The room fell into silence as Angel entered.
All eyes where on him.
“I don’t want to explain myself. I did what I thought was right. I still believe that it was.”
Fred and Lorne went over to him.
“Why didn’t you tell us?” Fred asked.
“It was part of a deal I made with Lilah,” he explained still reserved. “I was never to tell anyone but it looks like Wolfram and Hart forgot that.”
“Angel,” Fred said sincerely, “I don’t care if you thought it was the right thing or what you promised to the evil company. I wish that you told us.”
“Angel,” Buffy called, “there are a bunch of demons outside that look like they want a war.”
“Connor,” Angel ran into the lobby, “he won’t have had time to get out. They’ll kill him.”
The elevator was put to use again as Angel sent it to the lobby, willing it to go faster.
ANGEL ANGEL ANGEL
Connor was in the lobby when he saw the army waiting outside.
Thousands upon thousands of demons. Scales covered their entire bodies, small-swords in each of their hands, all eyes where on him.
Connor turned and ran for the stairs.
The demons came charging at him and he was forced to turn to bat some of them away.
Connor noticed the elevator doors opening and saw Angel step out and call for his help.
Connor answered in the only way he knew how.
A demon slashed his arm, Connor turned and the demon looked him in the eye, raised a sword above his head, grinning.
ANGEL ANGEL ANGEL
As the elevator descended into the glass section Angel saw the devastation in front of him.
Ymojoi demons where everywhere and they where pouring in from any available opening.
Over towards the main staircase Angel saw his son, being chased by hundreds of Ymojoi all looking for some vengeance.
The doors of the elevator opened and Angel went to step out but was forced back as two Ymojoi demons came at him, he fought them off with a simple punch-kick combo and took one of their swords.
He began to cut his way through the army but with every slash he became wearier. More and more Ymojoi seemed to be turning on him, eventually he gave up and called out.
“Connor, help me.”
“Why should I?”
Angel closed his eyes in pain. A Ymojoi punched him in the centre of his face.
He punched back and the Ymojoi went flying three others went down with him.
Angel let his face go and he wore the face of a vampire. Almost all of the Ymojoi turned.
ANGEL ANGEL ANGEL
In Angel’s office Cordelia, Doyle and Willow where watching the security footage of the lobby. Ymojoi where swarming everywhere and the three watched in horror as the elevator doors opened and Angel stepped out.
“They’re going to kill him,” Cordelia said.
“I really hope you’re wrong,” Doyle replied, “but I don’t think you are.”
“I think we can help,” Willow seemed to say without being involved in the conversation.
“How that?” Doyle simply asked.
Willow explained, “We can do a spell but I’ll need your help.”
ANGEL ANGEL ANGEL
Willow, Doyle and Cordelia sat in a circle on the floor of Wesley’s office.
“The spell will force all of the demons back. It shouldn’t be too risky unless we’re disturbed.”
“Isn’t there a way we can kill all of the demons?”
Willow was reluctant to answer. “Yes, it’s highly dangerous and I really think we should see how this one works out.”
“Let’s go then,” Doyle said. “Y’know. I’m pretty nervous. This is my first major spell you know.”
“Don’t worry it’s what all the cool kids are doing nowadays,” Cordelia said snidely, “PS Willow it’s great to see that you’ve avoided the whole black outfit thing.”
“I tried it for a while but it made me all i-want-to-destroy-the-worldy.”
“Plus it would totally clash with your hair,” Doyle said sarcastically.
“I think we’d better get started,” Willow said, “are you sure the door’s locked Doyle?”
“It aint opening unless those Ymojoi demons come up. In which case you ladies could use my unconscious body as a doorstop.”
“We all need to hold hands and then I’ll invoke the spirits that we need.”
“Okay,” Cordelia said, “let’s do it.”
Willow began to speak. Her hair turned white. Her eyes went black.
LISTEN TO ME.
I’M HERE AND I NEED YOUR HELP.
I WANT YOU TO KEEP THIS BUILDING CLEAR OF YMOJOI AND ANYONE WHO HAS ANYTHING TO DO WITH THEM FOR AS LONG AS POSSIBLE OTHERWISE THERE WILL BE REAL TROUBLE.
The entire room shook, and a force went through the entire building.
ANGEL ANGEL ANGEL
In the lobby Angel was struggling to fight of the Ymojoi and felt that he was no closer to Connor than he had started with.
The demons raised swords and slashed, Ymojoi struck down Ymojoi and Angel did all he could to aid them.
Angel looked up and saw that Connor was face to face with a demon.
“Connor!” Angel screamed as the demon raised his sword above his son’s head.
Although it was impossible over the din, Angel believed he could hear that same Ymojoi scream as the sword came down.
Angel stared on in horror.
His eyes closed as the sword fell but opened to see his son fall.
But he didn’t.
All of the Ymojoi began to fly away. By some invisible force the Ymojoi where all being picked up and knocked flying out of the main doors.
Realising what was going on he tried to crawl beneath the flying demons and reach his son.
The demon with the sword was long gone but many more where being dragged down the stairs.
The Ymojoi’s bodies flailing and rolling as part of a whole body of uncontrollable demon flying highway.
From up the stairs one demon called, “Draw arms.”
Many of the demons on their way down the stairs pulled out their swords and aimed for Connor and Angel.
Father and son both ducked out of the way as swords flew dangerously close to their heads.
From the stairway that led to the law offices one man came flying towards the demons. Angel reached up and grabbed him out of the air, pulling him to the floor.
Angel stared at his face, “I know you. You where the one who Calder was trying to kill. Chip Donovan or something.”
A gasp came from behind Angel, he turned and saw Connor with a sword through his chest.
“Dad,” Connor fell down to his knees with a gasp.
“Oh no,” Angel cried as he knocked Donovan unconscious and turned back to Connor.
“What…what…” Connor struggled to breathe, “what’s going on?”
“It’s okay Connor, you’ll be okay, remember I love you.”
Angel began to cry.
“Dad, I…I -” Connor gasped.
Angel closed his eyes as his son died in his arms. “Oh God. Connor no.”
Angel sat on the floor and cried over his dead son as the last of the demons left the building.
ANGEL ANGEL ANGEL
Outside Angel’s office Spike and Buffy spoke quietly.
“So,” Spike began, “Where’ve you been since I sent Sunnydale into a hole?”
“Looking around Europe really, Faith, Robin and Andrew went off to Cleveland but they said they could handle it. Me and Giles held bets on how long it would take for Faith to revert and kill Andrew.”
“Who won?”
“Giles,” she huffed, “unfortunately he had more faith in her.”
“So Buffy,” Spike moved the discussion towards a direction he wanted, “do you love me?”
Buffy’s body fell, all emotional strength gone from her body, “Please Spike. Not now.”
“When then Buffy? We’re about to go into another war and you want to postpone our deep and meaningful?”
“Yes,” she answered.
“Why don’t you stay here?”
“Because you and Angel would be so determined to piss each other off that the good fight would not be fought.”
“Buffy, we’d definitely piss each other off but we’re doing that anyway and the fights still being fought.”
“The tension would be too much to deal with,” Buffy began to walk away.
“Buffy don’t walk away from me,” Spike demanded.
“Don’t you be such a child all the time. Just leave me alone.”
Buffy stormed off.
ANGEL ANGEL ANGEL
In Angel’s office silence had descended upon the room. Buffy and Spike had left the room and hadn’t realised what had happened.
Xander, Lorne, Fred, Gunn, Gwen and Harmony just looked at each other, not comfortable enough around each other to express their true feelings.
Fred moved over to the window and looked out. In the night sky she saw a helicopter approaching the building.
“Wesley,” she said with a delighted smile.
Fred went back to the group, “Wesley’s back, his helicopter’s just landing.”
As if on cue the phone on Angel’s desk rung, Fred picked it up.
“Hello,” she said, the response made her face light up. “Wesley, it’s you.”
“What’s going on?” Wesley asked, “Are you okay?”
“We’re all fine but could you get down here as soon as possible.”
“Of course,” Wesley was now obviously concerned.
“Wesley,” Fred said, “please be careful. You’re about to walk through a war zone.” She hung up and said to the group, “We’ve got more help.”
At that moment Buffy came in followed by Spike.
ANGEL ANGEL ANGEL
Wesley came into Angel’s office and seemed to be lost for words as he saw the throng in front of him.
Buffy, Xander, Fred, Lorne, Gunn, Spike, Harmony and even Gwen where at the conference table.
“This isn’t looking good,” Wesley said.
“What’s that,” Spike said, “the fact a demon army is camping on our doorstep or that the entire cavalry can fit in one office.”
“Both actually,” he turned to Fred, “where’s Angel?”
“He’s downstairs,” she explained, “Wesley, did you know he had a son?”
Wesley was totally shocked, “No, that’s impossible.”
“No, that’s downstairs,” Xander corrected with a smile.
“I’d love to meet him,” Wesley said with a smile, “after the battle of course.”
“Well that may be a bit of a problem Wes,” Lorne said, “because the kid’s dead.”
“Oh my God, how long ago?”
“About ten minutes,” Lorne continued, “it’s not looking too good, he’s not stopped crying.”
Wesley turned, “Buffy.”
She looked up.
“Have you gone down there?”
“I don’t think I can,” she spoke through a lump in her throat, “I’m sorry but I don’t think that it would be…appropriate.”
Wesley was lost.
He couldn’t go down. Spike wouldn’t be wanted, Gunn wouldn’t do it.
It had to be Fred or Lo-
“Cordelia,” Lorne interrupted. “She’ll be our best option.”
Wesley looked around, “Cordelia’s back?”
Gunn leapt in, “Oh God, Wes. I’m sorry, yeah she’s back and so Doyle.”
Xander came over to the three of them, “What happened to Cordelia in the first place.”
“It’s a long epic,” Lorne came up behind him, “it’s best to ask her yourself.”
“Where’s Cordelia now?” Wesley asked.
“She’s in your office,” Lorne said, “her, Willow and Doyle where casting a barrier spell from in there.”
Wesley simply said, “I’ll give her a call.”
ANGEL ANGEL ANGEL
Willow, Cordelia and Doyle stood up having recovered from the barrier spell.
“So, we’re ready to take the next step?” Willow asked.
“Why not,” Doyle said simply, “did it once before and it weren’t that bad.” He gave a small smile.
“And you both understand the risks?”
“Yes,” they both said reluctantly.
The phone rang and Willow decided to pick it up. “Hello,” she felt that no more introduction was necessary in a time of war.
“Willow, how are you? It’s Wesley.”
“Wesley, when did you get back?”
“Not long ago, are you ready to come up?”
“Sure,” Willow was bubbly as ever, despite the circumstances.
She put down the phone and looked at the other two.
“We still need a fourth person.”
