Spike came up from the lower level just as Buffy came in. “Buffy,” he said, surprised.
“Hi,” Buffy said, wringing her hands. “Can we talk?”
“Of course,” Spike said, as she sat in his chair. “Are you okay?”
Buffy paused and looked at the floor before shaking her head.
Spike walked over and crouch in front of her. “Hey,” he said, lifting her gaze. “What’s wrong?”
Buffy’s eyes welled up with ears at the tenderness in his eyes. “I cant do it anymore,” she whispered. “I cant pretend to be okay and be someone I’m not. I don’t like it here but I don’t have a choice. I just don’t know what to do.”
Spike frowned as she began sobbing. He got up to his knees and pulled her into his arms. “Shhh,” he said, stroking her hair. “It’ll be okay. I promise.”
“Help me, Spike,” Buffy said, clinging to him. “Help me be Buffy.”
“I will,” Spike whispered. “I swear.”
Spike gently picked her up and took her downstairs before laying her gently in bed. “Shhhh,” he whispered. “Get some rest.”
Buffy began to relax and Spike climbed in with her. “I trust you,” she said, softly. “And I need you so much right now.”
“Shhhh,” Spike said, softly. “I’ll take you home a little after sunset.”
“Then you gotta stay with me,” Buffy said, tiredly. “Its easier with you around.”
“Okay, Pet,” Spike said, nuzzling her neck.
Soon they were both asleep.
True to his word, Spike took her home after sunrise. He tucked her in bed and laid next to her, knowing Dawn wouldn’t mind.
