Chapter 2
The room was bright, to bright, the light shown so violently that none of the walls were visible, that none of the people in the room could be seen unless standing only inches apart. He still wasn’t use to it, he still did not like it, as he walked into the intense light his eyes shut with pain. He dropped to his knees, even though he had saved the world from it’s death, in a room like this with so much goodness vibrating off the walls, sheering pain would come to him. All the hurt he had caused in the world was not welcome here. The gods who had welcomed him with open arms had tried to stop the pain, had tried to make this his home, but every attempt they had made had been worthless, something above even the gods did not permit Spike being here without payment for what he had done. This was a something that did not recognize the greatness of one great deed, but could only feel good and evil and Spike was still in essence, evil.
Spike wanted out of the room, he wanted out of this whole place, but that would never happen and so the least the gods could do for him was to leave him alone and not constantly be summoning him to their holiest of places. Spike wanted to belong here, he wanted to fit in with them all, but because he had been a vampire that would never happen. This place made him hate himself, made him loath everything he had ever done in his vampire life, it made him understand that he would never be good enough for a place like this. He who even saved the world to prove himself good, could never fit in heaven.
“I am here, as you wished it,” Spike murmured into the light through clenched teeth from his pain.
“Spike it is time,” came the voice of a woman. The voice wasn’t any normal woman voice though, it was a goddess’s voice and it seeped through Spike and warmed his soul, making the pain cease for a moment.
Spike did not open his eyes to look at the goddess, he knew it would be to much, “time for what?” He asked.
“You have been listening to the gods conversations lately.” This was not a question it was a statement.
A fear surged through Spike’s body, he did not want to anger the gods, “Only because you willed it.”
“You know about the girl then?”
He thought about how to reply with out angering the goddess, “The girl the other gods have made because of you?”
A pain he had never felt before stabbed at his chest and he fell face to the floor, it was easy to anger a god, “I am a God unlike any other god, like you were a vampire unlike any other vampire,” There was a pause and then the goddess continued, “I have found a way for you to fit in here Spike.”
Spike lifted his head off the floor, “Please goddess do not try and give me hope, where there is none.”
“Very well but even so there is something you must do for me, something I know you will like.”
Spike moved back to his knees a little intrigued.
“You are going back to earth Spike.”
The words rang in his ears, he thought he must not have heard her right because of the pain but then he realized that when a goddess wants to be heard she shall be heard. His mind began to race, so many questions unfolded in his mind and his body tingled with excitement.
“What’s the catch?” He asked with a little hesitance.
“You are going to be the guardian of our girl, you are going to guide her in the right direction. You know enough to do exactly this.”
Spike stood up off the ground trying hard to resist the pain that surged through him, “Okay,” was his reply.
“But,” came the goddesses voice. Spike sighed he knew this wouldn’t come without sacrifice.
“But?”
“You must not go as Spike and no one must know you are Spike. You shall go as a common human. Here, look.”
Suddenly the blaring light dimmed down and Spike was able to open his eyes, but what he found himself looking at was not the goddess but a strange man. The man was fairly tall and in decent shape. He had dark short brown hair, an olive complexion, a small nose and thin rosy lips. The eyes looked cold and harsh by shape but at a closer look there was a softness in them, a look that expressed a want for love. Something about this man reminded Spike of himself but he couldn’t figure out why.
“That’s what you look like now. You are no longer Spike.”
Spike looked down at his hands they were not pale, they were of an olive color. He then quickly moved his hand to his heart and there underneath his hand he felt the quick and steady pulse of life.
Beep! Beep! Beep! Whap! The sound was quickly stopped by a slap of Karey’s hand. Slowly the sleeping 17 year old teenager stirred from under her white cotton blankets and turned her head just enough to look at the clock which read 6:30. She sighed heavily and closed her eyes, another day of school, another day of boring classes, another day of having to deal with all the hormonal beasts that roamed around the halls…..another day.
