Angelus stalked behind Willow, Oz, Xander and Cordelia without them having any idea they were being fallowed. There were more of them then he had expected. He knew from Angel’s memories that Willow and Xander were the two friends that Buffy was the closest to. They had been her best friends since she first moved to Sunnydale.

He wasn’t really expecting the other two to be with them though. He knew there was a possibility that Cordelia might be with them but the guy holding Willow’s hand was new and unexpected. Angel remembered seeing him at Buffy’s surprise birthday party but he hadn’t really thought much more about him.

Four was a pretty big difference from two but Angelus wasn’t worried. He was one of the most vicious vampires in the world and they were just four teenage kids with pretty much no fighting skills what so ever. This would almost be too easy.

He began to fallow them a little closer as they rounded a corner into a dimly lit alley. It was in that alley that he decided to make his presence known. “You know it’s not safe to walk around dark alleys at night,” Angelus warned as he stepped into the weak light to reveal himself. “There are lots of bad people out there that might want to hurt you.”

The four friends turned around at the first sound of Angel’s voice. It almost looked as if Willow and Cordelia had stopped breathing at the site of him. He just loved that. Xander looked scared as well but he had a little bit of anger mixed in there. Angelus was really going to enjoy killing him the most. Oz seemed a little frightened but Angelus was sure that he wasn’t really fully aware of just how much danger he was actually in.

“Well Xander…here’s your chance,” Cordelia joked nervously.

Angelus didn’t know what that comment was about but he chose to ignore it. He slowly crept closer to the bunch with a sinister smile on his face. He regarded Xander coldly. “You know…I was just going to kill you all…but that Cordelia is pretty cute. Maybe I’ll make her like me.”

Cordy immediately became even more frightened. Xander put his arm in front of her protectively and moved her behind him. “You touch her and I’ll break all your fingers off,” he warned with a surprisingly steady tone.

Angelus just gave them a conniving laugh in response. “I’m really going to enjoy this.” Then without warning Angelus lunged towards Xander. He grabbed the boy by his shirt collar, lifted him up and threw him into the wall in one swift motion. He then reached for Cordelia. She screamed and tried to back away but her fear was freezing her in place and Angelus could feel it.

His face changed as he forcefully grabbed her shoulders and began to lower his head towards her neck. Before he was able to take a bite someone hit him in the head from behind with something that felt large and heavy. He fell to the ground and looked up to see that it was Willow. She had found a two by four and waked him in the head with it.

He had to hand it to her. She was pretty weak looking but the blow actually hurt a little. Not enough to slow him down though. He quickly recovered just as he noticed Willow rushing to Xander’s aid as Oz checked on Cordelia. He hurried towards Willow and grabbed her by the back of her neck before she even had the chance to kneel down and check on her friend. “That…was a big mistake little girl.”

Angelus shoved Willow into the opposite wall of the one that Xander was leaning against. He would have killed her right then and there but he could feel Oz running up behind him. It looked as if Xander was fading in and out of consciousness and Willow now lay limp and unconscious opposite her friend.

Angelus whorled around just as Oz was about to send him another blow with the two by four. The boy must have picked it up quickly in his pursuit to save his little girlfriend. Angelus grabbed his arm before he could fallow through. He shoved it away and backhanded Oz across his right cheek sending him to the ground. He then brought his attentions back to Cordelia.

Cordelia was still frozen in place from the fear. Angelus could hear her heart rate jump faster and faster the closer he came to her. But she didn’t run. She didn’t even move. “I’ve gotta say. You kids put up a better fight then I thought you would. Red over there even got a hit in,” he added as he pointed to Willow who was still unconscious on the ground. He then reached for Cordelia, grabbed her by the neck and pulled her closer to him.

Before Cordelia even had a chance to scream, Angelus pulled her towards Xander who looked as if he was just starting to fully come to. The vampire looked right into Xander’s eyes and smiled, fangs showing intensely. “Wakie wakie Xander. I want you to be fully aware to watch this.” He laughed with excitement.

Xander tried to get up but he was still dazed. With one rapid movement Angelus sunk his fangs into Cordelia’s flesh and began to drain the girl’s blood as she squealed in pain. He angled it perfectly so that her boyfriend could watch the entire thing.

Xander was extremely out of it. He could barely see straight from the blow he took to his head. When his vision finally did start to focus it was just in time to watch Angel sink his teeth into Cordelia’s neck. Xander tried to find the strength in him to stand, but his head just wasn’t ready. There was nothing he could do but watch.

Then, seemingly out of no where, Xander could faintly see someone rush towards Angel. It was a blond haired girl. It was Buffy. Buffy quickly pulled Angel off of Cordelia and immediately began to pummel him. She sent a right hook to his face and then fallowed up with a roundhouse kick. Both blows barely seemed to faze him.

Angel returned by backhanding Buffy with his fist tightly closed. Her head flung to the right but she quickly recovered in time to block Angel’s second attempt at a punch. Xander turned away from them as he attempted to stand up. He knew that Buffy could handle herself for now and he needed to get to Cordelia to make sure she was alright.

As he finally got to his feet he noticed Willow’s unconscious body for the first time since he came to. Worry instantly creased his features as he stared at his unmoving friend. Then he saw Oz appear out of his peripheral vision rushing to Willow. He was somewhat relived. For a moment there he felt like he was being torn in two different directions. He didn’t know which of his girls to run to first.

With Willow in the company of Oz, Xander instantly rushed to Cordelia. More relief struck him as he noticed that Cordelia was conscious. If there was anything that Xander had learned from hanging with the Scooby’s it was that consciousness was a very good thing. She was on the ground but one of her hands was propping her up while the other was clenched against the wound on her neck.

“Cordy, are you alright?” he asked as he knelt down next to the injured girl.

Cordelia seemed as if she was more shocked then she was hurt. “I…I think so,” she responded in a daze.

Xander quickly glanced back to Buffy and Angel. It seemed as if they were both pretty evenly matched. They continued to trade blows, neither one seeming to get tired. Then he looked to Willow and Oz. Oz was sitting on his knees. He had placed Willow’s head on his leg and was stroking her hair. She still wasn’t moving and her eyes were still glued shut.

He looked pleadingly back to Cordelia as if to ask if he could leave her for a moment to check on his friend. As if she could read his mind she said, “Go, I’ll be alright.”

Xander gave his girlfriend a small smile and without further hesitation ran to his best friend’s side. He looked at Oz. “Is she ok?”

“She hit her head pretty hard, but she’s alive, just knocked out I think.”

Xander put two of his fingers to Willow’s neck to check for a pulse, just to be sure. Thankfully, there was a strong pulse. She would be ok. I guess health class really is good for something. He thought to himself as he recalled they’re CPR lessons where they were taught how to check for a person’s pulse. The fact that Willow’s was still going strong told him that his best friend was going to be ok. A sigh of relief escaped his lungs.

Buffy winced in pain as she allowed another of Angel’s blows to reach her. This was going nowhere. They continued to trade blows but neither was getting an upper hand and Buffy didn’t even have a stake with her…not that she’d even be able to use it on the body of the love of her life. Deep down she still hoped that the real Angel might come back to her.

Then, with the worst timing in the world, Buffy’s nausea began to come back catching her by surprise. It had been coming and going for the past week now and this was a really bad time for it to be coming. She tried to fight through it but Angel was clearly gaining the upper hand.

Angel managed to send a roundhouse kick to Buffy’s face hard enough to knock her to the ground. She tried to catch her breath while on her hands and knees but Angel gave her no such luck. He quickly dropped down and swept his leg against Buffy’s arms. With all her weight being held up by her hands Buffy now fell flat on her face. “What happened Buff? You were doin so good.”

The fall dazed her, but not enough to stop her from avoiding Angel’s next move. She rolled out of the way just as he attempted to lunge his heal toward the back of her head. She quickly recovered to her feet and readied herself in a defensive stance.

Just then, Buffy heard a familiar voice calling her name. It was Xander. He had a two by four in his hand and he was throwing it her way. She caught the piece of wood from the air with ease, snapped a jagged piece off of it and discarded the rest in one swift motion.

There was a fire in her eyes that hadn’t been there the last time they fought. This time he had messed with her friends. This time it was even more personal. Buffy could tell that Angel could see it in her.

He smiled at her and released a sinister laugh. “We’ll do this again soon lover,” he said just before he took off running in the opposite direction.

“Coward!” Xander yelled to the fleeing vampire as he approached just behind Buffy.

In that moment Buffy dropped her makeshift stake and nearly fell to the ground. Her knees had all of the sudden felt extremely weak and she was forced to lean against the wall for support. She clenched her stomach protectively as she slid into a squatting position.

Xander rushed to her side and gently placed his hand on her back. “Buffy are you ok?”

She felt nauseous and dizzy and she wasn’t sure how her feet were still upheld beneath her. She peered her head back to look at a very worried looking Xander. She could see Willow lying on Oz’s knees behind him. She gathered her strength and rose up once again. “I’ll be fine. Willow? Cordelia? Are they alright?”

Xander looked back at Willow and then at Cordelia and then back at Buffy. “I think they’ll both be ok. We should get them to the hospital though, just to be sure.”

“Right,” Buffy responded with a nod. She took a brief moment to close her eyes and try to focus herself through the nausea and the dizziness. When she opened her eyes her focus was back on the situation at hand. “Let’s go.”
