Buffy spoke with a guardian and Caleb interrupted her as he killed the guardian.
“Buffy!” Spike yelled as he flew into the tomb.
“Spike, I could really use some help,” she said, nailing Caleb in the gut with the scythe. “Never
mind.”
Spike approached her. “You okay?”
“Yeah, I’m fine,” she said. “Thanks for showing up.”
“I saw him leave the vineyard and followed him here. I didn’t know you’d be here but I sensed
you,” he said, brushing her hair back.
“Well, I think we’re okay now that he’s dead,” Buffy said, getting closer to him. She leaned up and kissed him softly.
Their lips just played at each other until a voice interrupted them both. “What the hell is going on?!”
Buffy looked over her shoulder. “Nice to see you too, Angel,” she said, squeezing Spike’s hand.
“I’ll ask again. What is going on?” Angel asked, angrily.
“We were fighting a demon,” Buffy said.
“That’s not what I saw. Have you lost your mind?” Angel asked.
“I didn’t lose my mind,” she said. “I just found my heart.”
“I see. With Spike?”
“Yes,” was all Buffy said.
“Do you love him?” Angel asked.
“Starting to,” Buffy said, risking a glance at Spike.
Spike couldn’t help but smile.
“Buffy? Hello, soulless vampire,” Angel said.
“Hello, he’s got a soul. Angel, I’m not your girl anymore. You left and moved on. You cant just walk into my life and expect us to pick up where we left off. Doesn’t work that way. I’m not gunna sit around and wait for a prophecy to turn you human. I’m happy with the way things are,” she said.
Angel looked at Spike. “How did you get a soul?”
“Demon in Africa. It’s mine and its permanent,” Spike said, keeping the pride out of his voice. He didn’t think Buffy would appreciate him rubbing it in.
“That doesn’t make you better,” Angel said.
“He didn’t need a soul to better,” Buffy said. “He changed about 2 years ago.”
“What about us?” Angel whispered to her.
Buffy saw Spike cringed and she wanted to kiss him and reassure him but her feet wouldn’t move. “Angel there is no ‘us’. You left. We cant be together. We don’t want to be together. You love Cordelia and I’m with Spike,” she said, tears welling in her eyes.
“I see,” Angel said.
“Do you? ‘Cause I don’t think you do. I love you. I really do but you walk into my life and expect me to pause everything for you. You want me to make sure I’m totally focused on you. I don’t…” Buffy paused. “ I have a different life now. A life that you left me to have. You wanted me to be happy and I am.”
“I wanted you to have a normal life,” Angel said, going toward her.
“I don’t want a normal life. I want my life with Spike,” she said, tears slipping from her eyes.
Spike wanted to hold her but it wasn’t his place to get in the middle of them.
Angel grabbed her arm. “You have no idea what you’re doing,” he said, tightening his grip.
“Let go of me,” Buffy growled.
“Not until you come to your senses,” Angel said.
That’s when Spike stepped in and punched Angel. “She said to take your hands off,” he growled.
Buffy put her hand on Spike’s chest and pushed him back a little. “Angel, you need to leave, unless you have something that could help us save the world,” she said, looking into Spike’s eyes.
Angel pulled out and amulet and
folder. “This folder as information and this…”
“Is tacky,” both Buffy and Spike said.
“Yeah, but it’s supposed to be worn by a champion,” Angel said, glaring at Spike.
“Well lets go home and get this sorted
out,” she said, leaving the tomb.
