Dawn came out of the kitchen when she heard the front door open. “Spike?”
“Hey Lil Bit,” he said, pulling her into his arms.
Dawn, a little surprised, wrapped her arms around him. “I missed you too,” she said, nuzzling his neck. When he didn’t release her she became worried. “Spike? Are you okay?”
Spike shook his head against her and she felt his tears.
She guided him to the couch and sat him down. “What happened?” She asked.
Spike sniffled. “Buffy’s been working at a strip club,” he said, softly.
Dawn raised an eyebrow. “Why?”
“I don’t know,” Spike said. “But she’s into it.”
Dawn pulled Spike’s head to her shoulder. “I’m here for you. No wonder she’s been ignoring me,” she said.
Spike nuzzled her fondly. “I’m sorry I’ve been ignoring you,” he said.
“Shhh,” Dawn said soothingly. “I understand. I know you love me.”
Then Buffy came in and frowned. “Spike?”
Spike got up and wiped his tears. “I’ll see you later, Dawn,” he said. “Promise.”
“Bye Spike,” Dawn said.
“Spike,” Buffy said, grabbing his arm before he left. “I’m sorry.”
Spike yanked his arm free and left without a word to her.
Dawn stood up and went upstairs.
Buffy looked at the stairs before following her. “Dawn?”
“Go away,” Dawn growled.
“Dawn, what’s going on?” Buffy asked, through the door.
Dawn opened the door. “The fact that Spike was upset because you chose a position at some strip club over him,” she said, hatred seeping into her voice.
Buffy lowered her eyes in shame. “We need the money,” she said.
“We don’t need money that badly,” she said, crossing her arms.
“You think I enjoy this?” Buffy asked, looking up at her sister. “You think I like having guys
hands all over me?”
“Spike said you were enjoying it,” she said.
Buffy growled. “I’m going to talk to him,” she said, going downstairs.
