Prologue

“So this is the city of Angels back in the year 1999?” the voice of a girl rang out as she stood on top of the building looking down into the seemingly sleeping city; her blonde and black hair, which fell just a few inches under her broad shoulders blowing in the wind. “Twenty three years can do a lot, can’t it?”

“Apparently so, Rayne,” a petite girl softly replied as she fixed the torn weaponry belt over her black sweatpants. “What’s the plan? Or do we even have a plan?”

“The others are already in position in the sewers. It must go as it is willed or else Angel’s destiny won’t be fulfilled and we all know what wont happen if he doesn’t face the demon.”

The young brunette girl, who’s known as Savanna smiled, knowing precisely what Rayne was talking about. The two girls were dressed moderately the same; both with black stretch dress pants on and black tank-tops. However, Rayne who was easily described as curvy, her shirt had a logo on it; an angel. The exact same angel as the one displayed on Angel Investigations business cards with the initials A.I. in small letters placed elegantly in the corner of the shirt. Rayne’s brown eyes were hidden under the black night vision glasses while Savanna’s hazel eyes were enhanced with the help of cat-like eye liner. Savanna was shorter and visibly younger then her ally gleaming with a Buffy-like confidence at five foot five while Rayne with the slouched position well known thanks to the likes of Angel stood at five foot eight.

The weaponry attached to the young girls was far beyond impressive. With the moon in hiding the shine each detailed silver knife, stake, sword and arrows usually had was unapparent. Among the brilliant sliver hardware each girl had a single wooden stake attached for good measure. Savanna detached the wooden stake from her belt and examined is as if she had never touched one before. Her eyes shinning with a new found curiosity. This caught the eye of Rayne who with a humored shake of her head let a gentle smirk escape her full lips.

“You never seize to amaze me, Savvy,” Rayne’s words however seem to go unheard for Savanna was too captivated by the wooden object in her hand. Showing high annoyance to the girl before her Rayne with the known growl of a vampire snatched the stake from Savanna’s hand and with a swift moment, latched it back in its holder on the now half-frightened girl’s belt. “Get your head out of the bloody clouds and pay attention to the task at hand! If you end up dead, mom will end up killing me and I don’t feel like dealing with a silvered heart, got it?”

Savanna nodded in bewilderment. No noise escaping her frail frame. Rayne sighed and began to search through the night again. Minutes passed and nothing was happening, finally with a frustrated sigh she removed her glasses and took a sitting spot among the edge of the building. The sun was rising.

“Look at them, Rayne, the vampires down there, I mean,” said Savanna, breaking the silence. Taking her place beside her sister she looked up at the rising sun and smiled. “I almost feel sorry for them. I mean they have to run and hide from the sun, from the day light while you – you get to sit about, every morning if you so much desired and not have to worry about going poof! Hello dust-buster.”

Rayne looked at Savanna with a conflicted stare and burst into laughter. “You know what I have always loved about you, sis, your fine choice in words. Just like mom. You also have her confidence.”

“I have mom’s confidence but you have your dad’s broodiness.”

“I do not!” exclaimed Rayne playfully pushing her sister. “Okay, maybe I do… a little.”

“You know no matter how hard I try I just cannot get your dad’s broodiness. I mean, what does he possibly have to brood about? He’s mortal! He’s the first vampire I have ever heard of that has – wait a minute! Maybe you should get inside. We’re in a different time now, Rayne. How do you know your super sun block ability takes affect in this time? How do you know you won’t be having a one on one with the dust buster?”

“I’m half human, remember?” Rayne reminded, “I die the same way a vampire does however I have the ability to walk in the sun, eat and conceive as any normal human would. Regardless of the time we’re in. I was worried about that as well. Uncle Giles explained everything to me. As for dad, do we really need to get into the NOT mortal story again?”

“Oh, alright,” Savanna said, settling back down. “What time is demon boy going to make his appearance? What demon is it again?”

“Beats me,” laughed Rayne playing with the cross around her neck. “I never pay attention to details like name and such. When dad was explaining I listened to what was important. When and how to kill it; anything else is just useless information. As for when he is going to attack, I am not sure. All I know is we let it attack Angel Investigations and follow it to the sewers were the two of them with follow it. We let da-“

“Angel,” Savanna corrected.

“Angel get the demons blood mixed in with his own, turn him mortal and then we step in and destroy the demon before it can rejuvenate itself therefore preventing Doyle’s premonition thus preventing Angel from revoking his mortal gift.”

“Therefore preventing time from being put back and everything going on as it is meant to in the non-complicated, non-painful spell way.”

“That’s it. Doesn’t seem all that complicated.”

There was a moment of silence before Savanna’s never ending curiosity took over. “What do we do if he starts asking questions about whom we are and that? That is bound to happen.”

“Don’t worry about that, I have that one covered,” Rayne said confidently

“You really have no idea, do you?”

“Not a one,” Rayne laughed light heartedly. “I’m sure Josh will have a way to talk our way out of it. He always does.”

“Suns up; shouldn’t be long now.”

A few hours came and went as a cool November wind passed through the California air. The two sisters sitting on top of the city building over looking Angel Investigations were beginning to become restless; they wanted to get this vital mission over and done with. There entire existence depending on their succeeding; if things played out as it is originally intended to play out then the pair along with their friends awaiting them in the sewers could possibly seize to exist. As time passed on boredom quickly became slumber as the two leaned against one another. Their peaceful slumber was short lived however as the shattering sound of breaking glass filled the air and more importantly, Rayne’s intensified hearing abilities. Rayne jumped up and slapped her sister across the back of the head.

“It’s game time.”
