“Honey, you’re home,” Spike said, quietly.

Buffy smiled a little. “I wouldn’t call it home,” she mumbled coming down the rest of the stairs.

“You okay?” Spike asked, looking down at her closely.

Buffy sighed. “Not really,” she said, looking up at him. “I have to go out again. Do you think you could come with?”

Spike gave her a small smile. “I think I could do that,” he said, and followed her outside.

A few hours later, Buffy and Spike came through the door with Angel. “Angel, drop it for now,” she said.

“Buffy, this is ridiculous,” Angel said, softly.

She walked into the dining room. “Angel has some information that could be useful,” she said. “I need to get some air and talk to Spike.” She set the scythe on the counter in the kitchen on her way to the back porch.

Spike looked up and followed Buffy to the back porch. “Buffy?”

“I’m sorry about this morning,” she said, looking at him.

“Don’t worry about it,” Spike said, sitting on the porch step.

Buffy sat next to him. “Spike, it’s not like before,” she said.

Spike looked at her with soft eyes. “I know you did what you had to do. I know you weren’t running,” he said, softly.

Buffy smiled. “So you’re not mad?”

“Not at you,” Spike said, smiling at her.

“Angel,” Buffy said, in understanding.

“He always seems to roll in when things are actually looking up,” he said, looking away from her.

Buffy cupped his face and turned it back to her. “Angel’s not gunna take me away from you,” she said.

“Do I even have you?” Spike whispered.
Angel had wandered into the kitchen and was watching them.

“Yes, you do, Spike,” Buffy whispered. “You have earned my trust and possibly something more.”

Spike looked deep into her eyes and turned toward her. “Buffy…”

Buffy slowly began moving her lips toward his. Just as they were about to touch, Angel came out. “Buffy?”

Spike was about to back off but Buffy pressed her lips against his as if Angel wasn’t there. He couldn’t help but kiss her back. His hand went to her face and he cradled her face between his hands.

Angel growled as they kissed each other lovingly.

Buffy’s arms found their way around Spike’s neck and she didn’t even acknowledge the fact that Angel was there.

“Buffy?” Angel asked again, trying to break them up.

Buffy threaded her fingers into Spike’s hair but they finally had to part so Buffy could breathe.

Buffy smiled at Spike and cupped his cheek.

Spike smiled back at her and nuzzled her hand as he began purring.

Finally Buffy looked up at Angel. “Hi,” she said, softly.

Angel raised an eyebrow. “Um… why are you kissing Spike?”

“None of your business,” Buffy said, standing up.

Spike stood up as well and waited for Buffy’s move.

Buffy slid her hand into Spike’s and squeezed it gently.

Angel held out an amulet.

“I can already tell you I have nothing that goes with that,” Buffy said.

“Its not for you,” Angel said.

“Splainy?”

“Its for an ensouled champion stronger then human,” Angel said. “Like me.”

“Or me,” Buffy said.

“No. I don’t know nearly enough about this to risk you wearing it,” Angel said.

“So what am I supposed to do with it?” Buffy asked.

Angel handed it to her. “That’s really up to you,” he said.

Buffy looked at Angel. “Spike, can you give me a minute with Angel?” She asked, softly.

Spike felt like he’d been kicked in the gut. “I’ll wait for you downstairs,” he said, going inside.

Buffy watched as Spike went down to the basement and smiled fondly.

“Buffy?” Angel asked, softly.

Buffy’s attention drifted to him. “I thought we should talk about what’s going on. I care about Spike. A lot. He has a soul. I need you to go to L.A. and set up a second front. If the first gets past us, it wont be long before the rest of the world goes along with it. I’m gunna have Spike wear the amulet and I need you both to understand where my heart is,” she said.

Angel pushed her hair out of her face. “I understand and I’ll set the second front up. Buffy, that amulet is important and I hope you know what you’re doing,” he said, kissing her forehead tenderly.

Buffy smiled. “Thanks Angel. It means a lot that you understand,” she said, softly.

Angel smiled and disappeared into the shadows.
