I too heard these rumors. They were rumors of a Spike movie. Tim Minear was going to direct it, James Marsters, Ilyria (don't remember the actors name) and Allyson Hannigan said they would be in it. But Joss said he was quite busy, and James said he would do it only if it was within 5 years, otherwise it really wouldn't be believable that he was immortal.
Somewhat recently Joss said that the Spike movie would NOT be happening. He was simply too busy with upcoming jobs, Wonder Woman and Goners. Also, the funding was lacking, as I believe FOX turned it down.
At first I was disappointed, but it probably would not be very good. I mean of course the acting and writing would be steller as always, but with only 3 of the actors returning with quite little history as an ensemble... It would be very difficult to make it worth seeing. Of course I would see it anyways as a dedicated Joss Whedon fan, but that doesn't mean it would be very good.
I got my information off of Wikipedia, and interviews linked on wikipedia with Joss Whedon saying that the movie was not going to happen.
This is a roundrobin story. Would you like to contribute?
