Summary: When Buffy leaves Sunnydale after killing Angel, the last thing she wants to do is study magic. But a ghost town, a demon, and a new best friend are making life extremely complicated for the Slayer, and it seems that none of them will leave well enough alone. But to combat this evil, Buffy will have to face her innermost shadows, and deal with her own dark side. First Story in the Slayer Adept story arc.

Buffy smiled at the trucker as she slid out of the semi. "Thanks for the lift." she said. The burly trucker grinned at her. "My pleasure." he said. Buffy nodded, and shut the door. The truck pulled away and headed out of town.
Buffy looked around the small town. A few people looked up to meet her eyes, then looked away.
Slightly puzzled, Buffy wandered through town. After about fifteen minutes, she ended up back where she had started.
"Gee, this place makes Sunnydale look huge." muttered the Slayer. With a sigh, she headed across the street to the diner, hoisting her duffel up onto her shoulder as she went.
Buffy entered the diner. It was empty, except for a lone waitress at the bar. Buffy walked up to her.
"Hello." she said. "I'm looking for a job." The waitress raised her eyes to meet Buffy's
