Buffy yelled to get Xander’s attention. “Get. Me. A. Stake!”
Spike was watching from the shadows and when Buffy was slammed into the garage door, he interfered. He snapped the vampires neck and offered her a hand.
Buffy let him pull her to her feet. “Thanks,” she said.
“You okay?” He asked.
“Yeah,” Buffy said, as Xander came back.
“Buffy?”
“Who are you?” Buffy asked, still holding his hand.
“Name’s Spike,” the very handsome man said.
“I’m Buffy. How do you know about all this?” Buffy asked, softly.
“I can’t tell you,” Spike said, regretfully.
“Why?” Buffy asked, disappointed.
Spike melted under her almost put. “Maybe one day I’ll tell you,” he said, squeezing her hand gently, before leaving.
Buffy couldn’t help but smile a little.
The next day, Buffy was having trouble concentrating.
“Buffy?” Giles asked, concerned.
“Hm?” Buffy asked, snapping out of her daze.
“Are you alright?” Giles asked.
“Last night, there was this guy who helped me when I was fighting a vampire. His name’s Spike but he wouldn’t tell me about how he knew about vampires,” Buffy said.
“I’ll look into it,” Giles said.
“I’m gunna look for him tonight to see if I can get anything out of him,” Buffy said, leaving the library.
That night, Buffy found Spike fighting a vampire that she knew very well. Angel.
“You have no right to show up here!” Angel growled.
“I do as I please,” Spike said, as Angel broke his nose. “I didn’t know you were here, and if I had, I would’ve stayed away. I knew you would nag on me about my soul.”
‘Soul?’ Buffy thought as Angel kicked Spike in the ribs. “Angel!”
Angel looked at Spike’s fallen body then at Buffy. “What are you doing here?”
“Looking for Spike,” Buffy said, kneeling next to him. “Spike, are you okay?”
“Gimme a minute,” Spike said, softly.
“Buffy do you know who this is?” Angel asked.
“I met him last night and I’m assuming you’re a vampire if you having a soul is a big deal,” she said, fingering his nose. She stood up and offered her hand. “Come on. Lets see if I can fix your nose.”
Spike allowed Buffy to pull him to his feet and they went to her house, leaving Angel behind, greatly confused.
At the house, Buffy sat Spike at the counter and cleaned his face. “Why didn’t you tell me?” She asked, cleaning the cut above his eye.
“Cuz you’re the slayer and if I remember correctly, you don’t give vampires a chance to explain,” he said, softly.
Buffy smiled a little. “You’re right,” she said. “Are you cursed by gypsies?”
Spike laughed softly. “No pet. I’m not like Angel. For some reason I never lost mine,” he said.
Then Joyce came in and frowned. “Buffy?”
Buffy looked at her mom. “Hi mom. This is…”
“William,” Spike said, politely.
Joyce smiled. “I’m Buffy’s mom. Nice to meet you, William,” she said. “How do you know Buffy?”
“He was helping me study,” Buffy said, with a smile. “Member Angel?”
“He was helping you with history,” Joyce said.
“Well, I wasn’t making any progress with Angel so William is helping me now,” Buffy said. “He had an accident on our way home, but he’s fine.”
Joyce smiled at them both. “Well, I’m going to bed. It was nice to meet you William,” she said.
“You too,” Spike said, as she went upstairs.
Buffy looked at him. “William?”
Spike smiled. “Changed my name when I became a vampire,” he said. “You should go get some sleep.”
“Will I see you tomorrow?” Buffy asked.
“Count on it,” Spike said, leaving.
Buffy smiled to herself and she cleaned up the kitchen. She locked up and turned out the lights before going upstairs. She closed her bedroom door and there was a tap on her window. She opened it and before she could say anything, Spike kissed her passionately.
“Just wanted to do that before you went to sleep,” he said, disappearing.
Buffy stood dazed for a minute. “Oh my god,” she whispered to herself.
