Buffy walked through the door and leaned against it. “Dawn?”
Spike came out of the kitchen. “She’s sleeping,” he said, going toward her.
Buffy smiled. “That’s good,” she said. “Um, do you wanna stay with me tonight?”
“Buffy, you ask me that almost every night. Don’t you think we’re moving too fast?” Spike asked.
Buffy walked closer to him and took his hands in hers. “Spike, I know you feel really guilty about what happened but if you don’t work past it, I cant work past it. Every time I look at you, I see the guilt in your eyes. I know I drove you to do that to me and because of the horrible things I’ve done to you,” she whispered, unshed tears in her eyes.
Spike’s eyes softened. “Oh Pet,” he whispered, pulling her into his arms.
Buffy whimpered helplessly against his chest. “I missed you Spike. I thought you left me like the others. I saw you again and I knew there was a chance for us,” she said, lifting her head. “We cant move on, if you don’t let go of the past. Please? Cant we just sleep in each other’s arms?”
“Are you sure Buffy? Cause we cant end up doing what we did last year. I cant have you walk out on me again,” Spike whimpered.
Buffy’s tears finally slid down her face. “Spike, I feel horrible about everything I did but I don’t know how to make it better. I’m really trying to make things better between us but can you please stop making me feel like a bad person?” She whimpered.
Spike’s gentle thumbs began wiping away Buffy’s tears. “I’m sorry Buffy. But are you gunna walk out on me again?” He asked.
Buffy shook her head. “I already told the gang that I wanted a relationship with you,” she said. “So please, come up to bed with me.”
After a moment, Spike nodded and Buffy smiled.
Spike allowed Buffy to lead him upstairs to her room.
Buffy let go of his hand and smiled at him. “Just relax and get ready for bed. I’m gunna go change but I’ll be right back,” she said, kissing him on the lips briefly.
Spike took of his boots as she left and set them to the side. He took off his shirt and belt before climbing into her bed. He slid to the side he knew she didn’t sleep on and tried to relax.
Buffy came in and easily slipped into bed as if it was the most natural thing in the world to have him in her bed. “Spike, we’re just gunna sleep. Hopefully, you’ll still be here in the morning,” she said, laying down with her back to him.
When he didn’t understand she scooted closer to him.
Finally his arm came around her waist. “Goodnight Pet,” he whispered.
“Goodnight Spike,” she said, closing her eyes.
In the morning, when Buffy woke, there was a note on her pillow.
Buffy,
I’m downstairs with Dawn. Sleep late but don’t worry. I wont leave ‘til you get up.
Spike.
Buffy smiled and fell back to sleep clutching Spike’s note in her hand.
A few minutes later, Spike peek in on Buffy and smiled. He slipped in her room and sat on the bed next to her. He reached out and stroked her hair.
Buffy murmured happily.
Spike kissed her temple softly. “I love you,” he whispered.
“I know,” Buffy said, looking up at him. “I always have.”
