Disclaimer: I own nothing except my own twisted mind. Joss Whedon owns all things Buffy. I do not own Highlander, either. Or Highlander: The Raven.
Authors Notes: This takes place after "Ted". So Xander and Cordelia are together, Angel never lost his soul, and Kendra is still ticking. Faith has been activated. Angel has already given Buffy the claddagh ring.

Part Two

"One ticket to Seacouver, please." Buffy said to the ticketman at the bus station.
The man pulled out a ticket. "That will be twenty dollars." he said to her.
Buffy pulled the money out of the side pouch on the duffel bag and paid him. He gave her the ticket, and she walked towards a nearby bus with the sign "Seacouver" on the front.
Sitting down in a seat next to a window, she stared out the window, thinking.
*What am I doing here? Why am I still alive? And what is the Stone of Destiny?*
With a sigh, she scrunched down in her seat. Except for her and a couple other travellers, the bus was empty.
As the bus left the station, she watched Sunnydale go by. She saw the Slayerettes sitting on their usual bench outside the school. Kendra sat with them. As the bus went by, Kendra looked up at it. Buffy could have sworn that Kendra saw her, but then Kendra looked away at Giles who was saying something.
* * *
Kendra looked up at the bus as it rolled past. Her eyes widened when she saw Buffy staring out the window at her. Then Giles said something. She looked over to answer him, and when she looked back, the bus was gone.
"Earth to Kendra! Earth to Kendra!"
With a start, Kendra looked back at Xander. More than a little annoyed, she asked "What?"
"You were zoning out on us. Are you all right?" asked Willow.
"I thought I saw... Never mind." said Kendra.
"What did you see?" Giles asked the Slayer with a frown on his face. Kendra looked a bit embarressed. "I thought I saw Buffy." she answered the Watcher.
Giles raised an eyebrow. "That is quite interesting. Angel thought he saw Buffy on a hill over Sunnydale last night. Then when Willow went over to her house, she found Buffy's room in a mess, with several things missing."
Kendra frowned. "She was dead. You all saw the body."
Giles nodded. "Yes. This bears researching." Looking engrossed already, he set off towards the library.
"This is wierd." said Xander. "Do you think she's a ghost?"
Cordelia shrugged. "Would any of us be suprised if she was?"
* * *
Buffy stepped off the bus at Seacouver, and looked around. As the bus took off, she wandered off through the town.
***
Buffy stopped dead in the alley. A strange headache was developing rather quickly. With a frown, she shook her head. She noticed a young woman at the end of the alley. Her headache stopped.
The young woman approached her. "Who are you?" she asked Buffy. Suspiciously, Buffy answered "Bu- Echo Summers. Who are you?"
"I'm Amanda. Amanda Gracen. Tell me, have you recently had a near death experience?"
Buffy backed away from the woman. "Who or what are you?" she asked the blonde.
"I'm Immortal. And so are you."
* * *
"Oh Macleod!" called out Amanda as she strode into the dojo." A young man who was hanging out over near the office door came over.
"So, Amanda, who is this?" Richie asked her, noticing Buffy. "One of us?"
Amanda smiled. "Smart boy. Tell me, have you seen Macleod?"
"No, he's in England, bidding for a sculpture from Rome. Why?"
Amanda looked annoyed. "Well, she's a newbie." she said, jerking her thumb at Buffy.
Richie grinned. "Why don't you train her yourself?" he said to her.
"Excuse me." said Buffy. "Anybody want to explain what's going on to me?"
Amanda and Richie both looked at her. "Let's go upstairs." said Richie.
* * *
Ten minutes later-
"So let me get this straight." said Buffy. "I'm Immortal. I'm adopted, and I can only be killed by beheading."
"That pretty much sums it up." commented Amanda.
Richie grimaced. "There is one other thing. There is something called the Game. Every Immortal's life force is called a Quickening. When an Immortal is beheaded, the Quickening is released. If there is and Immortal nearby, the Immortal absorbs the Quickening and becomes stronger."
Buffy digested this. "You're telling me there are people out there who want to chop off my head? Why is it called the Game?"
"There are rules to the Game. You can't use guns, or knives, or anything else like that. You have to use a sword. Some Immortals do cheat. And you can't fight other Immortals on holy ground. Any type of Holy ground, whether it's a church or an Indian burial ground. You can't fight." said Amanda.
A shocked Buffy replies "Anything else?"
"Hmm. Oh yeah. Watchers." Richie said.
"Watchers!?" *There are Watchers for Immortals, too?*
"Yes, Watchers. They record what we do." said Amanda.
"What happens next?" asked Buffy.
Amanda sighed. "Now, since Macleod isn't around, I have to train you."
