“Wrong?” Danny snapped, “No, I’m peachy, what could possibly be wrong . . . Buffy!”

Buffy dropped her head in shame. She fussed with the blanket awkwardly as she tried, unsuccessfully, to think of something to say. She tried to look into Danny’s angry eyes but she found it too hard.

“Danny . . . ah . . . . I’m” she tried

“Oh, wait, I know this tune can I sing along?” he asked sarcastically, “You’re really sorry, you didn’t mean to do it and you’ll try and make it up to me? Not a very original you should try writing your own stuff.”

Buffy frowned.

“I didn’t want to hurt you.”

“Stop before you embarrass yourself Anne or Buffy or whatever the hell your name is!”

Danny stood up and folded his arms. He began to pace his way around her room. Buffy shifted uncomfortably. All she wanted to do was make it all better but she didn’t know where to start. Still there was one driving question that’s running through her mind.

“How did we get out of the vampire pack?” she asked

Danny stopped pacing and sighed.

“Gwen’s magic wore off quicker then we guessed it would. When it broke the vamps got disoriented which gave Gunn enough time to use his home made napalm. That’s when I decided to take you home . . .”

Danny laughed. Buffy looked up at him sadly.

“. . . I was only making sure you’re alright, the fun thing, I found out a few extras i didn't know . . .”

~ Los Angeles – few hours earlier ~

“Thanks a lot for the help Gunn,” Danny said as he carefully lifted Buffy out of the cab, “and the making sure I don’t die.”

“Its cool bro,” Gunn replied, “Just glad I got you and your girl out. You take care of her now.”

“That’s the plan.”

Danny carefully opened the door to Buffy’s apartment. He carried the unconscious girl over to her bed and laid her down. Danny sat for a moment and lightly brushed her hair. She looked so peaceful it was hard to imagine that only hours ago they were fighting to survive. He leaned down and kissed her as he accidentally knocked over her handbag spilling its contents over the floor. Danny tidied up the mess but discovered something he wasn’t expecting to find.

It was a student photo ID from Sunnydale high school. He examined it closely and found something he didn’t like. The photo was of Anne but it came with a different name.

‘Buffy Summers’

Danny couldn’t believe it. This didn’t feel real. If Anne was lying to him about her name what else was she covering for. Danny looked around and noticed a photo sitting on her bed side table. He picked it up and looked at it. It was a photo of Buffy, willow and Xander together looking like the best of friends. He began to feel a little light headed. He stood up and started to pace. It was like the first two months in L.A. all over again.

Danny ran his hands through his hair. How could he fall for this again? He tries to help but, ultimately, it ends up slapping him in the face. That’s when he noticed the blinking light on the answering machine. They were only here a few hours ago and this was the first time he noticed it. Maybe that was because they were a little distracted before. He pressed the button and found a seat.

Buffy? It’s . . . Giles. I know I’m probably the last person you want to hear from right now . . . I just wanted to check in and see how you are. Everybody misses you terribly . . . Willow hasn’t been the same since you left she’s become quite the serious woman and Xander, well, Xander’s still Xander but I know he feels the loss . . .

Danny dropped his head. This made it worse. Those people Buffy threatened in the high school she knew personally. Why would she do that to a friend? It doesn’t make any sense. When he first met her she didn’t like the person who would betray anybody. Even after he found out she was a slayer she still had the air of honor around her . . .

. . . I have news on the murder investigation involving you . . .

Danny looked up at the machine. He jumped off the bed and stared at Buffy. This can’t be right? Could she be a killer? He knew she killed monsters but could she really be killing humans as well?

. . . There’s . . . there’s been progress. Please call I know how you felt about killing Angel . . .

Danny swung around and stared at the answering machine. While he was doing that he backed away from Buffy. What was she dragging him into? was this her plan all along? to get an accomplice so she could get away while he's arrested? This was all he needed to hear. Danny stood up and headed for the door. He was about to exit when he looked back at the unconscious woman. He knew the best thing for him is to get away from her but part of him still cared for her.

Danny picked up Buffy’s handbag and searched through it.

~ Summers household, Sunnydale – 2 hours later ~

Joyce Summers sat on the sofa and watched the T.V. This was a ritual she had done every night ever since Buffy ran away. Every night she sat up until the early morning hoping and every night Buffy never returned. There was a light knock at the door that caught her attention. Joyce switched off the T.V. and took a moment to settle herself. This was probably just another passerby asking for directions but she always tried to remain cautiously optimistic.

Joyce opened the door to find Danny standing behind it. He had Buffy cradled in his arms carefully.

“Mrs. Summers?” Danny asked cautiously.

Joyce covered her mouth in shock. Danny quickly interpreted what she was thinking.

“It’s okay,” He reassured her, “She’s just unconscious.”

“Where did you find her?” Joyce asked

“That’s . . . a really long story.”

Danny Brought Buffy in and laid her carefully on the sofa. He turned to Joyce just in time for her to hug him tightly.

“Thank you.” She said appreciatively, “thank you so much.”

“Don’t mention it.”

“If there’s anything I can do for you . . .”

Danny was going to refuse her but his pressing need for shelter outweighed his chivalrous nature.

“Actually there is something, I know it’s kinda awkward since we both just met, but I don’t have any place to stay in town.”

“Sure,” Joyce replied, “I’ll set up the guest bedroom for you . . . sorry I didn’t get your name.”

“Daniel.”

“Daniel, good, thank you so much again.”

“Not a problem,” Danny replied staring angrily at Buffy, “Happy to help.”

“So mom let you stay,” Buffy replied awkwardly, “That’s a good thing.”

“Yeah, she’s very giving, especially to people who don’t appreciate it,” Danny snapped at her, “Anyways I gotta go Buffy. I hope you get what’s coming to you.”

Danny turned to leave the room. Buffy flew out of bed and took his arm.

“Don’t go,” she said softly, “Please . . . I love you.”

Danny stared back at her coldly.

“You know a few hours ago that would have been enough Anne. How am I supposed to trust you now when you wouldn’t even tell me your real name?”

“I wanna make it better, Dan, please let me make it better.”

“Go to hell! There maybe you can apologies to the two people you killed!”

Danny pulled his arms from her grip and stormed out of the room. This was the first time she ever felt weak. She slumped to the floor and began to sob. She felt like a complete idiot. Everything she did over the last few months was done because of her selfishness and now she pushed away the only guy who supported her through this insane need to be normal by lying to him. Buffy didn’t know what to do next and that scared her more then any apocalypse could.

“No! I simply refuse to believe that Buffy has turned evil!” Giles snapped as he paced around the library.

“Well I hate to disappoint Giles but the baseball bat shaped lump in the back of my head tells another story.” Xander replied.

“There has to be another reason!”

“You mean aside from going all psycho run away girl?” Cordelia commented

“You know Cordelia if you have nothing constructive . . .”

“Well maybe she’s right Giles,” Willow commented, “I mean; she broke in and threatened to shoot me with a crossbow I think that’s a huge tick in the evil column.”

“Yeah Blondie didn’t seem like miss stable when we fought.” Faith commented, “All signs point to bad mojo.”

Giles pulled of his glasses and rubbed his eyes.

“This is intolerable!” He snapped, “What we need is . . .”

“. . . More information?” Danny said awkwardly from the doorway

The group turned and looked at Danny. Faith jumped up and marched over to him.

“Oh you don’t wanna be here Toy Boy ‘cause I got this wicked bad need to hurt some evil that you don’t wanna get mixed up in.”

“Not here to cause trouble,” Danny said defectively

Giles folded his arms and looked at Danny annoyed.

“Oh really and why should we believe you?” he asked

“Ethan Rayne.”

The group looked at each other uncomfortably. Giles unfolded his arms and walked up to Danny curiously.

“What do you know about Ethan?”

“A few hours ago he took away Anne’s . . . Buffy’s powers.”

“He what?”

“He had this tablet thing and the Prophet Stone and they did this thing that sucked her power into a big red ball.”

Giles rolled his eyes.

“Oh good job Giles.” He said, “Anything else you can tell us?”

“He said something he was taking the ball to something called the Bei Wen Ji.”

Giles’ face dropped.

“Tell that’s not what he said.”

“Those were his exact words.”

“Oh my lord.” Giles exclaimed

“Ah Giles you’re apocalypse flag just went up mind sharing with the rest of the class?” Xander asked

Giles turned and faced the group. His face a picture of worry.

“The Bei Wen Ji is a market place that deals strictly with Abilities and super powers,” Giles explained, “It was first set up in china around 300 B.C. and travels around the world. If Ethan is planning on what I think he is planning . . .”

“And for the slow people in the group?”

“Ethan is planning on selling the Power of the Slayer to the highest bidder.”

Suddenly something struck Danny. He cast his mind back to when they just escaped Wolfram and Hart.

“Actually I think it’s worse then that,” Danny replied, “Buffy was given a list of things she needed to get to remove her power. On that list was a book called the Tome of Ronshar.”

"No," Giles said urgently, "he wouldn't."

“Is that bad?” Willow asked

“Oh I say it’s very bad,” Giles replied, “If our friend is right .Ethan isn’t planning on selling the power of the slayer . . . he’s planning on mass producing it.”
