Buffy and Danny walked slowly down the street. It was a long trip back into the city so they decided to stop lunch. Buffy looked at her male companion curiously as he ate his burger. After a moment he noticed.

“What?” he asked

“I’m trying to figure you out?” Buffy replied

“Figure me out?”

“Yeah.”

“I’m really not that complex.”

“I don’t know about that.”

“Would it help if I drew some diagrams?”

“Maybe,” Buffy smirked, “You knew your brother and uncle worked at that base.”

“Yeah, I used to visit Uncle David on the base when I was younger.”

“And you knew that they were looking for you right?”

“Got my own milk carton and everything.”

“So why did you take me there if you didn’t want them to find you?”

“You needed the statue thing,” Danny replied, “Besides you’re problem are, like, ten times worse then mine.”

“But you don’t know anything about me.”

Danny shrugged.

“Don’t need to you have a good soul Anne. I see it in your eyes.”

Buffy smiled warmly.

“You’re unbelievable.” Buffy replied

They gazed into each others eyes. Tentatively Danny moved and kissed her. It was soft and tender and very giving. Buffy mind race. She didn’t expect Danny to do this but it wasn’t unwelcome. In the back of her mind she knew she felt something for Danny but she couldn’t get her mind off Angel. Suddenly Buffy pulled away.

“Wait,” she said apologetically, “I . . . I can’t do this I’m sorry.”

Danny looked at Buffy anxiously

“Okay . . . ah . . . I just thought we . . .”

“No you didn’t do anything wrong . . . it’s . . . it’s me. There was this guy . . .”

Danny stepped back defensively.

“Hey, if you’re . . . already seeing someone I can just . . .”

“No, No It’s not that,” Buffy replied sighing, “This guy . . . A-a few months ago I had to . . . it’s complicated.”

“Oh . . . Ah . . . did you and he . . ?”

Buffy opened her mouth to reply. Nothing came out. There was so much to explain about Angel and she had no idea where to start. How do you explain to anybody that you had to kill your beloved to save the world? They both of them looked at each other awkwardly. Buffy frowned at him. Danny was a great guy and she really didn’t want to hurt his feelings. Danny sighed and looked at Buffy seriously

“Antelopes.” He said

Buffy looked at him strangely.

“What?” she asked

Danny shrugged.

“Sorry it’s this thing I do. If you say a completely random word that doesn’t have anything to do with what you were talking about it kinda breaks the tension.”

This comment came completely out of left field. Buffy couldn’t help but smile.

“You’re a really strange guy do you know that?”

“Darn it and I was aiming for fantastically eccentric.”

Buffy laughed. Danny draped his arm over her shoulder.

“Come on we’ve got a book to get."

Giles paced anxiously in the library. His contact was late and he didn’t like it. A moment later the library door opened. Quentin Travers walked into the room flanked by two senior watchers. Each of them holding a different wooden box. Giles stepped up to them.

“Thank you for this Quentin.” Giles said seriously

“Don’t thank me yet Rupert. We need your assurance that these items will be returned to the vault as soon as possible.”

“I can assure you that you will get both items back. Ethan might think he has me cornered but I have a plan of my own. We will get Buffy home.”

“That’s another thing I need to talk to you about,” Quentin replied “Faith.”

The door opened again and a brunette girl walked into the room. She leaned apathetically against the checkout counter and looked around the room. Giles looked at the girl.

“Quentin?”

“Rupert I’d like you to meet Faith Lehane. The second Slayer.”

“How’s it hanging Geeves?” Faith commented

“Care to explain what’s happening Quentin?” Giles asked

“You have seventy-two hours to locate Miss Summers. If she does not arrive within that time you will cease you search and transfer your watcher duties to Miss Lehane.”

Giles looked at the head watcher seriously.

“That’s not enough time Quentin. There’s no telling when Ethan will make contact.”

“Take it or leave it Rupert.”

Giles rubbed the back of his head.

“Looks like I don’t have a choice do I?”

“Excellent, in the mean time you will commence training Ms. Lehane.”

The watchers placed the boxes on the table. The three of them left the room. Giles looked at Faith curiously.

“Do you think you’re ready for training Faith?” he asked

“Whatever,” Faith replied, “Is there any decent bars in this crap hole of a town?”

Giles sighed heavily. There was so much that needed to be done and not enough time to do it in.

Danny and Buffy stared up at the towering buildings in awe. They just arrived at the wolfram and hart offices and were immediately intimidated by the sizable buildings.

“Do you get the feeling that these lawyers my have a spare dollar lying around?” Danny asked

“Maybe one or two.” Buffy replied

“What I don’t get is why does a law firm need a magical book?”

“Maybe they don’t think it’s magical,” Buffy replied, “What ever the reason we need to go get it. Come on let’s go.”

Inside Lindsey McDonald sat at his desk going through some case documents. There was a light knock at the door which caught his attention.

“Come in.” He prompted

The door opened slowly. Lilah Morgan slinked in and walked purposefully up to his desk. Lindsey stopped and leaned back on his chair.

“Lilah? That’s weird; I thought I made an appointment with the soul suckers for tomorrow.” He mused

“Cute,” Lilah replied, “with that attitude I might not share the info I just got my hands on from my friend in security.”

“What makes you think I would be interested in it?”

“That depends on how much you think the partners would like to get hold of a vampire slayer.”

Lindsey looked at the female lawyer closely.

“Now you’ve peeked my interest. You know where one is?”

Lilah leaned Lindsey’s desk. She picked up the remote to his TV and switched it to the security feed from the lobby. The image showed a picture of Buffy and Danny talking to the security guards at the front desk.

“Right on our doorstep.”

“Do we know why she’s here?”

“Not yet. I was about to head down and enquire myself care to tag along?”

Lindsey looked at her suspiciously.

“Maybe. Have you talked to Holland about this?”

“I don’t think we need to involve him,” Lilah replied, “Word on the grape vine is that a position might open up in special projects.”

“And you’re thinking that one of us might fit the bill?”

“Now you’re getting it. I knew there was a brain under all that Armani.”

Lindsey smiled at her. He turned back to the TV and watched it closely.

“Who’s the guy with her?”

“No idea, probably nobody, but think how fun it’ll be to find out.”

“What are we waiting for?” Lindsey replied as he stood up

They both left the room and headed for the elevator. Whatever the reason the slayer had entered Wolfram and Hart she was going to have a hard time leaving.
