Bad Moon on the Rise
"Oz?" Buffy asked in a confused voice.
"Yea, Buffy." Oz responded.
The two looked at each other with the tombstones of dead Clevelandites surrounding each other.
"What are you doing here?" Oz asked.
"Sunnydale got destroyed, we came here because Cleveland has another hellmouth. Figured we could be of some help. " Buffy explained quickly.
"Oh, ok. Well there is this demon in town; he just arrived like a month ago. I've been trying to figure him out but I gotta admit I don't have a lot of demon knowledge." Oz returned.
They walked out of the cemetery and returned to the hotel room where everyone was slowly waking up.
"You might want to wait out here; Willow is in there and I know she kinda makes you go all wolfy." Buffy cautioned.
"Oh no its cool, I'm passed that. Is that Tara girl still around?" Oz inquired.
"No. She was killed by Warren." Buffy said in a sad voice.
"Oh, I see." Oz replied.
They opened the door to see the gang sitting on the beds watching cartoons. The room fell silent when Oz appeared from outside. Willow stood up in amazement to see Oz back in her life.
"Wow, just when we were thinking of getting a dog you come back." Xander joked.
"Yea, thanks." Oz replied back.
Immediately Oz walked over to the frozen Willow and gave her a hug.
"I'm sorry to hear about Tara." Oz said.
The separated and Oz sat on the desk across from the bed Willow returned to sitting on.
"Oz says that we have a new player in town, demon variety. He doesn't have a lot on him so we need to hit research mode. Dawn you'll be helping with this since its Saturday. Xander, Anya you two will hit up demon bars with me. Willow you and Dawn need to get to the books, try and find what we are looking for from the descriptions Oz provides." Buffy commanded.
"Ok but Buffy, we have very limited resources. Giles took most of his books with him." Willow explained.
"Then get him on the phone, I want to know who this demon is and how I can kill him." Buffy replied.
"Why can't i just stay here and provide commentary. Mean I just returned from Heaven, shouldn't I get to be like you were after we pulled you back Buffy?" Anya complained.
"Now An, we don't need to bring back those memories. Besides I need the company." Xander assured Anya.
Anya, Xander and Buffy left the room and headed towards the demon bar Buffy found on their first night in Cleveland. Unfortunately there were far too many new demons in town for anyone to be of any help. Anya and Xander decided to head back to the room in hopes the others made more progress. Buffy wanted to find Pike to see if he had any information about the new demon in town.
Buffy was able to find Pike sitting outside a small café sipping a cup of coffee.
“Pike” Buffy said.
“Hey Buffy, what are you doing here?” Pike replied, looking up from his newspaper.
“Um, after last night’s patrol I ran into an old friend who says he has knowledge of a new demon in town. He thinks he wants to open the hellmouth. I was hoping you could give me any information about a new demon like that. The bars were of no help; there are too many new demons after the destruction of Sunnydale.” Buffy inquired taking a seat across from her former boyfriend.
“Actually I can’t say that I know of anything new in town wanting to accomplish that. In fact I can’t say I know where the opening is. But I have some contacts around town that might be able to shed some light on this issue. If you want you could come with me, get to know them and all.” Pike responded.
“Oh, that sounds good. I’ll meet you at the park around 7?” Buffy assuredly offered.
“Sure, I’ll see you at 7.” Pike responded. He quickly returned to drinking his coffee and reading the newspaper.
Buffy promptly returned to her temporary home. Then was still looking into the claims as Buffy walked in.
“Hey Buffy.” Dawn exclaimed.
“Hey Dawn, you guys find any information about this demon so I can kick it’s ass? Buffy asked.
“No, we don’t have a lot of information and Giles wasn’t able to help without more information.” Willow sadly reported, “Oz has some information but when he has done the recon he was always the wolf.”
“We need to find information about this demon, because if Oz is right and it wants to open the hellmouth we have to stop it.” Buffy warned.
Oz and Xander walked into the hotel room with bags of supplies. Buffy turned to the door and took a deep breath. Since leaving Sunnydale they had nearly no weapons or supplies. During her last patrol she had to use a pencil to kill a vampire. Buffy tried to see if Oz had more information about the demon, but as Willow told her Oz knew nothing. Buffy asked him to come on patrol tonight; maybe he could use the demon’s scent to lead her to the layer.
As the clock reached the hour, Buffy and Oz set out to meet Pike at the park. The moon was large and bright. Buffy felt a bit on edge, she was afraid Oz might turn into the wolf due to the full moon. As they came closer to the park Buffy couldn’t make out whether Pike was there yet. The found a picnic table and sat on it to wait. As they sat there Buffy explained to Oz what had happened with the destruction of Sunnydale. Buffy explained Willow had transferred the power of the slayer from the Syth to each of the potentials around the world. While they were battling the First Willow was encountered by a mysterious figure that told her the full legend of the Slayer.
As she was telling him these things, two vampires came from behind them. Buffy pushed Oz out of the way and quickly disposed of the two undead monsters. It was now almost 8 o’clock and Pike had still not shown up. Buffy told Oz to try and find the demon so that they might get a glimpse of the demon.
The came upon a crypt located in a cemetery on the edge of town. On the backside there was a window about eight feet up. Buffy used Oz as a stand in order to see over the ledge. When she looked in she saw a man dressed in a dark suit, with dark hair. He had his back turned to the window. The man was talking to a dark green demon with a horn sticking directly up from his head. He had light blue eyes and yellow teeth. Oz’s arms gave out and Buffy fell back to the ground. They quickly returned back to the hotel to hit the books. With the new visual information they figured they might be able to find out the demon’s identity.
They got back to the hotel and told Willow what they saw. Immediately Willow turned to a book and showed the picture to them.
“Is this him?” Willow asked.
“Yes, that is definitely our demon” Buffy responded.
“His name is Daimon. He is an old demon, as old as any you have had the opportunity to fight. In fact, his name is the Greek word for demon. Apparently he came around the time of Aristotle, the philosopher. There is no record of him trying to destroy the world though, in fact he seems to just be your typical ‘I want to kill humans’ type.” Willow explained.
“What do you mean, then why does he want to open the hellmouth?” Buffy continued.
“Well, you remember Spike? He wanted to help you when Angel awoke Acathla.” Willow went on.
“Yes” Buffy answered.
“Well think of Daimon like Spike, he loves living in this world and wouldn’t want to ever return to the hell dimension he came from.” Willow responded.
“I see, so why now. What makes destroying the world his priority now?” Buffy asked in an angered voice.
“I don’t know Buffy. You said there was a man there, or at least something that looked like a man.” Willow mentioned.
“You think he has been convinced to open the Hellmouth by this thing?” Buffy inquired.
“It is worth a shot to investigate.” Willow explained.
Back at the crypt Daimon was still speaking with the mysterious man.
“You are certain the Slayer thinks I want to open the Hellmouth” Daimon inquired.
“Of course. She told me herself that she thought there was a new demon in town looking to end the world. She will eventually come to kill you, and when she does we will kill her.” The mysterious man went on.
