“I’m not the first,” ‘Warren’ said.
“What the hell is going on in here?” Buffy flared, punching ‘Warren’ in the mouth. “Ow.”
“Buffy,” Spike moaned.
Buffy turned and ran over to him. “Spike?”
Spike tried to hold himself up and make the pain go away.
Buffy put her hands on either side of his face. “Shhh,” she said, allowing him to lean into her embrace.
Spike slumped against her and almost collapsed. “Buffy,” he whimpered.
Buffy slid to the floor with him in her arms. He curled up into a ball and whimpered as his arms went around her waist.
Everyone watched as Buffy soothed the vampire. Dawn came over and sat next to Spike. Tentatively, she reached out and touched him softly.
Spike opened his eyes and smiled weakly. “Hey Dawn,” he said, softly.
Buffy reluctantly untangled herself from Spike.
Dawn slid underneath him and cradled him much like Buffy had.
Buffy stood up and after a moment of watching them, she went back over to ‘Warren’.
“I’ll fix it,” ‘Warren’ said. “Just take care of things here and I’ll be back later.”
Buffy sighed as ‘he’ left and massaged her temple.
Xander came over to her. “You okay?”
Buffy looked up at him then over at
Spike. “I hate not being able to do anything,” she
whispered, going over to Spike and Dawn.
Spike had fallen asleep in Dawn’s arms and he was purring softly. He trembled a little, which meant the chip was still firing.
Dawn looked up at Buffy. “Is he going to be okay?” She asked, softly.
Buffy crouched beside her. “I don’t know Dawnie,” she said, pushing her hair back.
Tears came to Dawn’s eyes. “He has to be okay,” she whimpered. “We cant lost him again.”
Buffy frowned and wiped Dawn’s tears. “We’ll do everything we can. Right now, I wanna get him upstairs,” she said.
Hating to do it, she woke him gently.
Spike’s eyes opened and they were filled with pain. “Hey,” he said.
Buffy gently pulled him to his feet. “I want you to get some sleep,” she said, taking the exhausted vampire toward the stairs.
Buffy got Spike in her bed and he was asleep almost instantly.
Dawn resumed her place beside him and stroked his hair as he began to purr.
Buffy smiled at the affect her sister had on Spike. Reluctantly, she left the room.
Downstairs, she collapsed on the couch and sobbed. Someone, sat next to her pulled her into their arms. “Shhhh,” Came Xander’s voice.
Buffy buried her face in Xander’s chest and sobbed.
After a while she calmed and sniffled every now and then. “Thanks,” she said.
Xander pulled back to look at her face. “You okay?” He asked.
Buffy shuddered a little. “I cant do this, anymore, Xander,” she said.
“Just go up and be with him,” Xander said. “I’ll take care of things down here.”
Buffy smiled a little. “Thanks, Xander,” she said, standing up.
“No problem Buffy,” he said, as she went upstairs.
Upstairs, Dawn was sleeping and so was Spike. Buffy smiled and slipped in next to him. She spooned against his back and kissed his hair softly as she fell asleep.
When Dawn woke, she smiled at Spike’s sleeping face. She noticed Buffy sleeping behind him and carefully slid from the bed. Spike whimpered, but turned over to snuggle into Buffy. She smiled at them, before quietly leaving the room.
Buffy unconsciously pulled Spike closer to her and ran her hand over his back as he trembled.
“Buffy,” he whimpered, awake from the pain.
Buffy’s eyes opened and she slid closer to him. “Shhh. I’m here and I’m not going anywhere.”
“Buffy,” Spike whimpered, before he began to scream.
Buffy rolled over and pulled Spike on top of her. “Shhh,” she said.
Spike began to sob at the pain and he buried his face in her. “It hurts, Buffy,” he whispered.
“I know. Try and get some sleep,” Buffy said.
Spike buried his face deeper into her and tired to sleep.
Buffy ran her hands over his back and didn’t attempt to fall asleep herself until she was sure, Spike was sleeping as peacefully as he could.
