Spike woke to whimpering noises and looked down at Dawn. She was trembling and crying in her sleep.
Not wanting to wake Buffy up, he gently untangled himself from her.
He leaned her back on the couch and gently picked up Dawn. With one hand, he gently lifted Buffy’s legs onto the couch. She only murmured before falling asleep again.
Dawn woke and cried softly. “Mommy?”
“Shhh,” Spike whispered, going to the kitchen. “You’re okay. I got you.”
Dawn sniffled before laying her head on his shoulder.
Spike smiled as she began to fall back asleep. Quietly, he crept back to the living room, and settled himself in the big comfy chair. Dawn was asleep by the time he settled her up against him.
The next morning, Buffy woke with a start when she was laying down. She relaxed when she saw Spike and Dawn sound asleep in the chair. She stood and went to the kitchen, trying to be quiet. She picked up the phone and dialed the number for England.
“Hello?” Came Giles voice.
“Giles?” Buffy asked.
“Buffy? It’s so good to hear your voice,” he said.
“Can I ask you something?” Buffy asked.
“Yes, of course,” Giles answered.
“Something happened to Dawn,” Buffy said. “She’s… someone turned her into a 5 year old.”
“How’s that possible?” Giles asked.
“You’ve never heard of anything like this?” Buffy asked.
“No,” Giles said. “How did you find out?”
“Spike found her in the cemetery. She’s looking for Mom,” Buffy said. “I wanna fix this fast because I don’t think I can handle lying to her.”
“Did you talk to Willow?” Giles asked.
“Willow’s not doing magic anymore,” Buffy said. “I may have to try Tara.”
“I’ll look into it and I’ll give you a call if I find anything,” Giles said.
“Thanks Giles,” Buffy said, before hanging up.
“Buffy?” Came a small voice.
Buffy turned around. “Hey, Dawn,” she said, smiling.
“Why don’t you like Spike?” Dawn asked, crossing her small arms.
“I do,” Buffy said, softly.
“I mean, like as a boyfriend,” Dawn said. “He loves you. You’re all he thinks about.”
Buffy looked at her little sister and rested a hand on her flat stomach. “Maybe one day, I might be able to love him,” she said.
Spike smiled from the doorway. “Morning Ladies,” he said, softly.
Dawn smiled and went over to Spike. “Hi Spike,” she said, as he lifted her up into his arms.
Spike kissed her forehead. “Did you sleep okay?” He asked, smiling at Buffy a little.
“I had a nightmare but then you held me like my mommy does. Are we ever gunna find her?”
Dawn asked, softly.
Buffy noticed the look in Spike’s eyes and stepped forward to help. “We will find her, Dawnie but are you gunna be okay until we do?” She asked,
resting a hand on her back.
Dawn looked at Buffy and nodded. “Yeah,” she said.
Then Willow walked in the back door. “Hey Buffy. Spike?” She asked.
“Morning Red,” Spike said.
“Who’s this?” Willow asked, going toward the young girl.
Dawn buried her face in his neck.
Spike smiled a little. “It’s okay. She wont bite,” he said, soothingly.
“Willow, this is Dawn,” Buffy said.
“Oh, hi Dawn. I’m… wait. Our Dawn?” Willow asked, as she caught what Buffy said.
“Yeah,” Buffy said. “Dawnie, this is Willow. She’s a friend and she can help us. Do you wanna do me a favor?”
Dawn smiled and nodded.
“Can you go upstairs so I can talk to Spike?” Buffy asked. “Willow’s gunna play with you.”
Dawn looked at Spike and he smiled. “It’s okay, Lil Bit,” he said, softly.
Willow took the young girl upstairs and Buffy looked at Spike. “Spike, I have to tell you something,” she said.
Spike looked at her with a worried gaze as he followed her to the living room. “What’s wrong?” He asked, sitting next to her on the couch.
“God, I don’t know how to say this,” Buffy said, softly, as she looked at her hands. “I’m pregnant. With your baby.”
Spike looked at her. “Buffy, not that I’m not happy, but how can I be the father?” He asked.
“I don’t know, but Spike, I haven’t been with anyone but you. I can honestly tell you that I haven’t cheated on you.”
Spike leaned back against the couch and tired to think about what Buffy was saying. “Do you want this baby? I mean with me?” He asked, looking at her.
Buffy shifted and sat in his lap. “I do, Spike. I don’t love you and it would be wrong for me to tell you that I do, but I like you and I care for you. Maybe one day I could love you, but I don’t know what I would do if you weren’t in my life. I don’t think I could handle it if you ever left me,” she said, sliding her arms around his neck.
Spike wrapped is arms around her waist. “I’m not gunna leave you. I promise,” he said, pulling her against him.
Buffy sagged against him in relief. “I didn’t know how you would feel,” she said.
Spike kissed her temple tenderly. “I’ll help you take care of this baby,” he said. “But what about your friends?”
“They’re gunna have to deal,” Buffy said, kissing the side of his neck. “I’m not gunna chose them over us.”
Spike smiled. “Dawn’s gunna be happy,” he said.
“I know and I cant wait ‘til we tell her,” she said, pulling back. “I want a girl.”
“Me too,” Spike said. “Then she can look just like her mother.”
Buffy smiled. “But if it’s a boy it can look like you,” she said, mischievously.
“I’d rather it be a girl,” Spike said.
Buffy smiled and kissed him softly. “We’ll just have to wait and see won’t we?” She whispered.
