"What do you mean Giles", Buffy said back in a worried voice.
"I mean, Buffy, that we are looking at the reversal of Willow's spell. Giles quipped back, "Something must have gone wrong, something must have caused the new slayers to lose their power."
"Faith. said Buffy
"No, Faith had nothing to do with this Buffy. interrupted Giles
"I meant, is she ok? Buffy finished.
"Oh yes, she seems quite alright. Giles assured Buffy.
They ended their conversation in agreement that Buffy had to try and wake Willow to see if she knew anything about why the spell was reversed. It had only been two weeks since they decided to give all potential slayers the slayer power in hopes of defeating the First.
Buffy sat on the bed trying to think when all of sudden Willow grabbed Kennedy's body.
"Osiris! Willow screamed, "I demand that you return to this plane the soul of the loved one."
Buffy and the rest of the gang quickly moved away from her.
"She was unfairly taken by unnatural forces, and you said to me when Tara died that I could not mess with natural death," Willow went on, "but this is not a natural death, I demand you deliver to her lover this wish; return the life of the beloved one!"
Willow's hair turned a bright blonde and her eyes became totally white. All of a sudden as Willow knelt at the body of her dead lover the ground began to shake.
"WITCH! Osiris screamed, "Your wish shall be granted."
Willow fell away from Kennedy's body. Then a bright light appeared and from the heavens a body fell. Immediately Xander recognized the face of his dead former lover, Anya.
"But Willow, she...she is dead", Xander said in a sad voice.
"Was dead, she was dead Xander. Will explained, "Osiris told me when Tara died that I wasn't allowed to bring her back because she was killed by another human. A vampire killed Kennedy; she was no longer a slayer. An agent of the first, a bringer, killed Anya. She was not killed naturally. She died fighting the original evil."
Anya began to move and Xander ran to her; he fell to help her. She looked up at him and smiled. The quickly helped her to the bed but before long Dawn was off to school. In hopes that Willow would have some idea of what happened, Buffy asked her to go to breakfastr. She turned and noticed that Pike was no longer around; he had probably left in terror.
They went to breakfast and immediately Buffy asked, "Willow, what went wrong, why did Kennedy and the other slayers lose their power yet Faith and I are still slayers."
"You don't understand the legend of the slayer do you Buffy? Willow asked back.
"What do you mean, of course I do. 'In every generation there is a Chosen One. She alone will stand against
the vampires, the demons and the forces of darkness. She is the Slayer. '", Buffy responded back.
"Yeah but in this generation we have two slayers, you and Faith. This goes completely against the history of the slayer; you know that. When you were called there were no other slayers, you were it. This little saying isn't just something that the first Watcher's Council cleverly thought up. It was given to them. When I preformed that spell, well actually after it was finished and Kennedy had left me, a form came to me and explained. Willow continued, "You see Buffy, as long as man has existed the vampire and other forces of darkness have existed even longer. The first recorded vampire in the west was Lilith, the first wife of Adam. It was the God Yahweh, also known as Jesus or Allah who created the first slayer. The men you met, thoe ones who tried to give you more power, were His prophets. When we preformed that little spell it went against the edicts of Yahweh. Everyone, including a pagan gal like me,knows that when Yahweh says something it cannot be disproved without something going all vainy."
"So the spell worked for a brief time, but in the end it was going to fail? Buffy asked, "I mean this seems like we should have known it would happen, why didn't we know? Mean look, we have one person dead because we didn't know that the spell would be reversed."
"Yes Buffy I know, but it wasn't that simple. Willow went on.
"Wait, then why haven't they taken my powers away, or Faiths, why do they allow two slayers to exist? Buffy quickly responded.
"Thats just it, when you died you were dead. You shouldn't have come back after the Master killed you. But Xander saved you; you were brought back because he loved you. Then when you died to close the portal, you died out of love and were allowed to come back. But you remember when you asked Tara about the spell I used to bring you back, and if there was something wrong with you? Willow explained.
"Yes, she said it was nothing more than a minor change on a basic level. Buffy said concerned.
"Well Tara wasn't exactly right. When you died and came back the first time there was little change. But when we brought you back after you jumped, you had been gone for quite some time. Basically Buffy no matter how often you die, there will never be a slayer called to replace you. But it isn't because you keep coming back. Do you remember that demon that split Xander but was really aiming at you? Will went on.
"Yea", Buffy answered.
"Well, basically because you have died you are slowly losing all the characteristics that belong to Buffy Anne Summers... Willow explained.
"So basically I'm becoming slayer concentrate. Buffy said.
"Exactly. Willow responded, "But don't worry, you won't go all demony on us. You'll just become more and more powerful. Instead of the slayer source being in the abstract, it is becoming flesh. Buffy the slayer source is taking up shop in you. It will eventually make you immortal."
The two finished their breakfast and continued back to the hotel. Unsure as to why Willow brought Anya back instead of trying to revive Kennedy, Buffy interrogated Willow.
"I didn't love Kennedy, in my life I have loved exactly three people: Xander, Oz and Tara. Xander loved someone else; no matter what I try and do he will never love me. Oz is a werewolf who can control his powers around everyone but me, so he left me. Tara was killed and taken away from me. Kennedy was a playmate. Willow explained, "I brought Anya back because I see everyday how Xander is ripped up inside, it is unfair to him. His lover was taken from him by the First."
The continued to walk back to the hotel. When they got back Anya was better and speaking with Xander.
"Willow" Anya said, "You have real talent for taking people out of Heaven, first Buffy and now me."
Im sorry Anya, but we needed you back. Willow explained, You see when I was all catatonic there, I saw what is going to happen. The First is not dead; it will come back for us and finish what it started. But this time it will be able to take corporal form, I dont know how or anything I just know eventually it will return.
The finished talking to Anya and made sure she was all right after such a difficult journey back. Dawn returned back from school to see Anya had returned. They decided they would all go out and celebrate, and instead of patrolling Buffy would go with them. They found a club called The Iron Skillet not too far from their hotel room.
Pike turned up to find Buffy and said there was an urgent matter that needed to be dealt with. They ran from the Iron Skillet into a local cemetery. There they found a group of vampires held up in a crypt.
There are too many for me to fight. Buffy said.
Ive got your back. Pike responded.
They destroyed the nest of vampires and Buffy explained she was going back to the club and Pike should continue the patrol on his own. Upon walking back to the club she bumped into another old friend.
Excuse me. Buffy said.
Buffy? Oz replied.
