The next morning, Buffy went to check on Dawn, but the little girl wasn’t in her bed. “Dawn?”
Buffy went downstairs and smiled at the little girl sleeping with Spike on the couch.
She went over and ran her fingers across Spike’s face. “Spike?”
Spike’s eyes fluttered opened. “Hey,” he said, looking down at the young girl next to him.
“I’m gunna go get you some blood,” she said. “I’ll be right back.”
Spike smiled. “Okay. Thanks Pet.”
Buffy smiled at him and left.
When she came home, Dawn was watching cartoons and Spike was brushing her hair. “Why doesn’t Buffy like you?” The young girl asked.
“What makes you think she doesn’t like me?” Spike asked.
“She snapped at you when you first brought me here,” Dawn said.
Spike paused his hands. “Because I made her mad and she’s not very forgiving about it,” she said, braiding her hair.
“But she was nice to you when she found out I was with you,” she said.
“She didn’t wanna upset you,” Spike said, finishing her hair.
“Are you gunna help me find my mommy?” Dawn asked, looking up at him with wide
eyes.
Spike melted and lifted her into his arms. “Buffy and I will help you find your mom,” he said, softly.
“Last night, I had a bad dream and I didn’t wanna scream and wake everyone up. I was so scared so I came down here. I didn’t think you would mind,” she said, in a tiny voice.
Spike smiled. “I don’t mind, but I probably wont be here tonight,” eh said, regretfully.
“Why?” Dawn asked.
“I don’t live here,” Spike said, softly. “This is Buffy’s house.”
Tears came to Dawn’s eyes. “But…”
Spike pulled her close to him. “It’s okay, Nibblet,” he whispered, soothingly. “I’m not far.”
“It’s not the same,” Dawn said, through her tears. “I fell safe with you around.”
“Dawn,” Buffy said, from the doorway. “He’ll be here.”
Dawn smiled and wiped her tears. She hopped off Spike’s lap and went over to hug Buffy’s legs.
Buffy smiled and picked her up. “I bought you something,” she said.
“A present?” Dawn asked, excitedly.
Spike had come over and took the bag of blood to the kitchen.
“Yes, a present,” Buffy said, putting her down. She pulled an outfit out of her bag and Dawn’s eyes widened.
“I love it,” she squealed. “Can I put it on?”
Buffy smiled. “That’s kinda the whole point,” she said. “Come on. I’ll help you.”
Spike finished his meal and plopped on the couch. He smiled when he saw Dawn come downstairs. “Hey Nibblet,” he said.
Dawn smiled and jumped into his lap. “Buffy bought me a present,” she said, cuddling into his lap.
“I see that,” Spike said, with a smile.
Buffy smiled and joined them on the couch. “I’m glad you like it,” she said.
Spike looked at Buffy with a worried gaze.
“Can we play outside?” Dawn asked.
“Dawn,” Buffy said. “Spike has an allergy to the sun so he cant go out but I’ll take you if you want, but Spike can’t.”
“Then I don’t wanna go,” Dawn said. “Can we watch a movie?”
“Lion King?” Buffy asked, with a smile.
Dawn smiled. “Yeah, I love that movie,” she said, snuggling deeper into Spike.
Buffy shook her head with a smile and put the movie in.
Soon the three of them were cuddled together on the couch.
Dawn had fallen asleep in between Spike and Buffy and somehow the two blondes ended up kissing.
“I’m sorry,” she whispered.
“For what?” Spike asked, not really wanting to talk.
“For using you then letting you go,” she said, a tear making its way down her cheek.
Spike kissed the moisture away. “But what do we do now?” He asked.
“Do you think maybe…. We can…….try again? But things would be different,” Buffy said, shyly.
“How would things be different?” Spike asked.
“I would tell my friends,” Buffy said, softly. “And I’d probably want you here more often.”
Spike kissed her forehead. “We could try it,” he whispered. “But we have to help Dawn.”
Buffy looked down at her sister in a 5 year old body. “After a nap,” she said, leaning against him.
Spike pulled his girls closer to him and fell asleep as well.
