Spike looked at the broken body of Dawn. Painfully, he made his way toward her, as Buffy came off the tower. She saw Spike holding Dawn’s body, crying.
Tears slid down her face as she crouched beside him. She put her hand on his back. “Spike,” she whispered.
Spike lifted his face from Dawn’s body. “I’m sorry,” he whimpered. “I tried.”
Buffy frowned and pulled his head to her shoulder. “It’s not your fault,” she said, running her hands over his back and through his hair.
Giles came over and crouched next to them. “Buffy, what do you want us to do?” He asked.
“Go to my house and we’ll meet you there. We could all use some sleep,” she said, softly.
About 15 minutes later, Buffy and Spike came through the door. Buffy’s arm was around his waist as she was supporting him. She took him upstairs and carefully eased him onto her bed. She pulled a first aid kit out from under her bed and began cleaning his wounds. “Spike, we’re gunna have to get these clothes off,” she said. “I know it hurts, but I cant leave you like this.”
Spike pushed himself up and with Buffy’s help, he was able to get his duster and shirt off.
About 45 minutes later, Spike was sound asleep. Buffy went downstairs and Willow came over to her. “You okay?”
“I don’t know. I just cant believe she’s gone,” Buffy said, her voice cracking.
Willow wrapped her arms around Buffy as they cried.
After a few minutes they broke apart. “Guys, I wanna go up and be with Spike. Xander, you and Anya can use Mom’s room if you want,” Buffy said, going upstairs.
She opened the door to her room and frowned at Spike. He was sleeping as peacefully as she thought. Silently, she changed her clothes, and slipped in beside him. She carefully laid her head on his chest and snuggled up against him.
Instantly, Spike quieted and snuggled with her. Buffy, quietly, cried herself to sleep.
When Buffy woke, Spike wasn’t with her. She climbed out of bed and went in search of him.
She found him in the doorway of Dawn’s room and she rested her hand on his shoulder. “Spike..”
“It wasn’t supposed to be her,” he whimpered.
Tears pooled in Buffy’s eyes as she wrapped her arms around him. “Spike,” she said, burying her face in his neck.
Buffy and Spike collapsed to the floor, crying in each other’s arms.
Someone came bonding upstairs. “Buffy!” Came Angle’s voice. He stopped short when he saw a shirtless Spike, holding Buffy.
Reluctantly, Buffy lifted her face from Spike’s neck. “Angel?”
Angel walked over to them and he crouched next to her. “You okay?”
Buffy’s face crumbled and she slumped against Spike.
Spike closed his eyes to keep his own tears from falling. “Shhh,” he purred.
Angel watched with a raised eyebrow at the two blondes in front of him.
Buffy carefully wrapped her arms around Spike’s waist and let her tears fall on his shoulder.
Spike lifted her in his arms and took her to her room. Gently, he laid her in bed.
Angel watched from the doorway, wanting to go to Buffy but didn’t.
Buffy clung to Spike and buried her face in his shoulder. Even though her screams were muffled, the gang came upstairs.
Willow noticed Buffy screaming in Spike’s arms. She also noticed Spike doing everything in his power no to break down as well.
Angel was watching his girl scream in Spike’s arms. His fists clenching and unclenching.
Spike cradled the back of her head and the other rubbed small circles in her back. “Shhh…. Pet, it’s okay,” he said, in a gentle voice.
“Oh, god Spike. I already lost mom. Now what?” She whimpered against him.
Spike pulled away a little. “You let her go, somehow and I’ll help you through this,” he said, wiping her eyes.
Slowly, Buffy’s trembling subsided and she grew tired as her grip began to loosen.
Easily, Spike laid her down. “Come on,
Pet,” he said, trying to unlatch her arms.
Even though she was very weak, Spike couldn’t break her grip. “Don’t go,” she whispered, her eyes falling closed.
Angel growled deep in his throat as Spike slipped in beside Buffy.
Both Buffy and Spike ignored him. Buffy settled down in his arms and Spike focused on making Buffy better.
Buffy’s hands gripped his shoulders. “Don’t leave me,” she whispered, drifting into sleep.
Spike pulled her against him and ran his hand over her hair. “I wont. Promise,” he whispered, kissing her forehead.
