Slowly, Buffy walked through the cemetery and paused at her mother’s grave, who had just recently passed away the week before. Riley just left town and she couldn’t stop him. She tried to hold back the tears but they came anyway.

After several hours, she got to her feet and headed towards Spike’s crypt. Instead of barging in like usual, she knocked, tears still welling in her eyes.

Spike opened to door and looked surprised. “Buffy, are you okay? It’s later. Is it Dawn? Is she okay?”

“She’s fine,” Buffy whispered.

She stared shaking and her knees buckled. She didn’t even feel the impact as she slumped to the floor.

Spike scooped her up and carried her to his couch. He wrapped a blanket around her shoulders and knelt in front of her.

“What’s wrong?” Spike asked. The tears were still coming down her face, and she didn’t answer him. “Buffy, what happened? You can tell me,” he said, gently grasping her hands.

Buffy tried with little success to calm down. She squeezed his hands as she spoke. “Riley… he left… a-and…. I couldn’t stop him.” She was crying and shaking so much, that she could barely form the words.

“Oh god Buffy. I’m so sorry,” Spike said.

“No, its not your fault. Riley and my mom are both gone. I loved them so much and I don think they knew,” she said.

Spike reached up and wiped away her tears. Then he came and sat next to her. He gave her a hug and she clung to him. She cried harder, as her body shook uncontrollably. “Buffy, they knew. Riley couldn’t except Angel. It’s not your fault. As for your mum, she knew you loved her very much.”

“But I fell so alone, Spike,” Buffy whimpered.

“Your mom is always gunna be in here,” he said, touching her heart. “Come on, I’ll take you home,” he said, standing.

“No. I cant. I cant be alone tonight,” she said, squeezing his hands.

Spike helped her up and her legs gave way. He picked her up and carried her to the lower part of the crypt. She nuzzled her head into the crook of his neck as he tucked her in bed. “I’ll be upstairs if you need me,” he said.

“Stay,” Buffy said, not letting go of his neck.

Spike climbed in behind her and spooned against her back. She was still crying but it soon gave way to slight tremers as she fell asleep.

Spike closed his eyes a little while later and slept as well.

In the morning, when Buffy woke, Spike was stroking her hair. She hugged him slightly and sighed.

“You’ve slept all day,” Spike said, soflty.

“I did?” Buffy asked.

“Giles is probably worried,” Spike said, just as there was a knock on the crypt door.

Spike gently laid he down and she started to drift to sleep again.

When Spike got upstairs, there was Giles looking very worried. “Spike have you seen Buffy? We haven’t seen her in a while and we’re all concerned,” he said.

Spike put a finger to his lips and motioned for Giles to follow him. Giles followed him downstairs where Buffy was sound asleep in Spike’s bed. Giles didn’t have the heart to wake her, so he went back upstairs with Spike.

“Did I wake you?” Giles asked.

“No I was already awake. She did a number on my neck,” Spike said massaging the muscles in his neck.

“How long has she been here?” Giles asked.

“Since last night. She came over crying like she never intended to stop. Riley left last night,” he said.

“Good lord,” Giles said. “I knew they were having problems but I never thought he’d leave her at a time like this.”

“I told her I should take her home and she wouldn’t let me. When she wakes up I’m taking her home though. She needs people she loves,” Spike said.

“Willow and Tara are at Buffy’s with Dawn.
You can take her home when she’s ready,” Giles said.

Spike nodded. “Okay.”

“Thanks for all your help,” he said sincerely and left.

Spike, surprised by Giles statement, went downstairs. He sat on the edge of the bed and stroked Buffy’s hair out of her face. She stirred slightly and reluctantly opened her eyes. “Who was upstairs?” She asked, tiredly.

“Giles. He came looking for you and he knows that you were sleeping. I told him I would bring you home when you were ready. Willow and Tara are with Dawn, he said. So we can go whenever u want.”

“I guess we should go,” she said, getting out of bed on wobbly legs.

Spike scooped her up and took her upstairs. She put her head on his shoulder and relaxed as he hugged her close to me. He grabbed his duster and they headed toward Buffy’s house.

Spike noticed that Buffy’s saw her mother’s grave and set her down next to it. Buffy ran her fingers over the engraved letters and fell to her knees as tears slid down her face. Spike came down next to her to hold her. “It’s gunna be ok. You’ll get through this. I’ll always be here for you, to help you through anything.”

“Thank you,” Buffy whispered, as she hugged him. They sat there for a little while, before Spike scooped her up and took her home.

Tara saw them coming and opened the door for them. Buffy had fallen asleep in his arms and no one wanted to wake her.

“Lets get her upstairs,” Willow whispered.

Spike went upstairs and laid Buffy in bed and she whimpered when his arms slid out from under her.

Willow sat on the edge of the bed as Tara and Spike went downstairs.

“Will?” Buffy mumbled.

“Are you alright? Do you want anything?” Willow asked, concerned.

“Spike,” Buffy said, noticing his absence.

“Spike?” Willow asked, surprised.

“I want Spike,” she said. “You and Tara can stay too but I really need Spike.”

“Sure. I think he.. He’s still downstairs,” she said. “Is it okay for me and Tara to stay in your moms room?”

Buffy nodded. “Dawn?”

“Sleeping,” WIllow said, before going downstairs.

Downstairs, Spike was pacing and he was seriously worried about Buffy.

“Spike, she’s okay,” Tara said.

“I know,” he said. “I’m just worried.”

Willow came downstairs. “She’s tired but she wants to see you Spike,” she said.

Spike headed upstairs and Willow filled Tara in on what happened.

“She’s exhausted. She wants Spike to stay the night and she said we could stay also.”

They locked the door and turned ou9t the lights. Tara left three candles on the dining table and went upstairs.

Spike entered Buffy’s room and she was so exhausted, she looked like she was really sick. “Buffy, you okay?” He asked.

“Just wanted to know if you were staying with me?” Buffy asked.

“I can if you’d like,” Spike said, going toward her.

“I would like you to,” Buffy said, softly.

Spike removed his coat and boots and laid next to her. Like the night before, she wanted to be as close as possible to him. He stroked her hair and she was asleep almost as soon as her head hit Spike’s chest.

Willow checked on them at about three and made sure the curtains were close before going back to her room.

Back in Joyce’s room, Tara was still awake. “Was she asleep?”

“Yeah. I think she’s in love with Spike,” Willow said.

“With Spike?” Tara asked, a little shocked.

“Yes. I think Spike would make her happy. Did you see the look in his eyes when I came downstairs?” Willow asked.

“He was really worried about her,” Tara confirmed.

“Riley and Angel never had that kind of concern for her. Yeah they were worried but Spike went craze,” she said. “I’ll talk to her tomorrow. I think we should talk to both of them.”

Tara suddenly had worry in her eyes. “What about Xander. He may not take this as well as we did.”

“I’ll have a Scooby meeting in the morning. Buffy and Spike should stay upstairs, when we tell them,” Willow said, turning out the light.
