The next night, when Buffy went to Spike’s crypt, the sight before her made her stomach churn. “Spike?” She asked, crouching next to his body.
After a moment, Spike groaned and tried to sit up. “Bloody hell,” he growled.
Buffy gently helped him lay back down. “What happened?” She asked, surveying the damage.
“Your boy paid me a visit today and it wasn’t pretty,” Spike said, painfully.
“Oh god, Spike. I’m so sorry,” she said.
“It’s okay,” Spike said.
Buffy stood up. “Come on. Lets get you to my house and I’ll get you cleaned up,” she said, offering her hand.
Spike slid his hand into hers and suppressed a growl at his sore body.
Buffy caught him as he nearly fell. “I know you hurt but will you be able to make it?” She asked.
“Yeah,” Spike said. “I’ll be okay.”
Slowly, the two of them made the painfully journey to Buffy’s house.
Joyce gasped. “Oh my god, Spike,” she said, horrified. “What happened?”
“Riley attacked him,” Buffy said. “I need to get him upstairs. Do we have any blood?”
“No,” Joyce said, helping Buffy get him upstairs.
Buffy gently laid Spike on her bed. “Spike, my mom’s gunna take care of you ‘til I get back. I’m gunna get you some blood,” she said, softly.
“I’ll be okay for a little while, Pet,” Spike said.
“Are you sure?” Joyce asked.
“Yeah,” Spike said.
Buffy looked at her mom. “Can you get me a first aid kit, please?” She asked, sitting next to Spike.
As Joyce left, Buffy stroked Spike’s face. “Are you sure you’re okay?”
Spike nodded. “Yeah. I’m okay,” he said.
Joyce came back in with the first aid kit and went into full motherly mode.
“Mom, I’ll be back. Take care of Spike for me,” Buffy said, and left.
Buffy found Riley at the bronze flirting with a girl. With a scowl, she stalked over to them. “Riley?”
“Hey,” Riley said, smiling at her.
“If you ever come near me or Spike, I’ll have Willow turn you into a toad,” Buffy threatened. “And in case you didn’t realize, we’re finished.”
Riley looked at her with a shocked expression, before going after her. “Buffy!”
Buffy ignored him and walked quickly toward her house.
Riley ran after her and followed her inside. “Buffy!”
Buffy went up to her room and smiled. Dawn was laying next to Spike, both of them sound asleep with Spike purring softly.
“How could you do this?” Buffy asked, trying not to wake up Dawn or Spike. “He wasn’t doing anything to me.”
Riley crossed his arms. “Why wont you kill him?” He growled.
“Because I don’t want to,” Buffy said. “Dawn likes him and so does me mom. I’ve gotten used to him around and he helps me patrol.”
“I don’t understand why you would beat him up when he’s defenseless,” Joyce said. “He’s very polite and good company.”
Buffy went over to sit next to Spike. “How is he Mom?”
“Just a few bruises. He’ll be fine tomorrow,” Joyce said, softly. “Was gunna move him to the basement but I didn’t wanna wake him.”
“It’s okay,” Buffy said. “I think I’ll live.”
Riley scowled. “Buffy…”
“Get out of my house and stay away from Spike,” Buffy said, coldly before going towards Spike.
Riley grew angry as Buffy sat next to Spike before he stormed from the house.
Buffy closed her eyes and pushed her sorrow down before looking at Spike. “God what is wrong with me?” She muttered.
“Get some sleep, Honey,” Joyce said, softly.
Buffy looked at her mom with a raised eyebrow but laid down next to Spike innocently before falling into a peaceful sleep.
