The next morning, Dawn had climbed out of bed and Spike turned to face Buffy. His head was resting on her shoulder and his arm was around her lovingly.
Buffy’s eyes fluttered opened and she smiled at Spike’s peaceful face. His nightmares had dwindled so he wasn’t fighting them every night. When he did have them, Buffy soothed them the best she could.
Spike sighed and pulled his knees closer to him.
Buff shifted on to her back so Spike’s
knees could rest on her hips. She ran her fingers through his hair and rest her against his. “Spike?”
“Hmmm?” Was all she got.
“I have to get up,” she said, smiling.
“No you don’t,” he mumbled, snuggling deeper into her.
Buffy laughed softly. “Just for a minute,” she said, trying to untangle herself from him.
“Stay,” Spike protested, sleepily.
Buffy smiled and rolled them over so she was on top. “I promise I’ll be right back,” she said, getting off of him.
Spike grumbled as she left the room.
30 seconds later, she climbed back into bed. “See? I told you I was coming back,” she said, climbing under the covers.
Spike snuggled back into her arms with a smile. “You weren’t gone long,” he mumbled against her neck.
Buffy smiled as her knee snuck between his. “Go back to sleep,” she whispered. “It’s Saturday and we can use some rest.”
“I just wanna stay here in your arms,” Spike said, nuzzling her.
“Me too,” Buffy whispered, fondly. “I missed having you sleep by my side.”
“I’m here now,” Spike said, softly.
“Will you always be here?” Buffy asked, without even thinking.
Spike picked his head up and looked at her with piercing blue eyes. “I’ll be here until you want me to go,” he whispered.
“I’m never gunna be ready for you to not be here,” she whispered.
Spike smiled. “That sounds like a plan,” he said, snuggling into her.
