When Buffy came home, Spike and Faith were nowhere to be seen. She opened to door to the basement and went downstairs.

Spike and Faith were sprawled on the floor laughing.

Jealousy raged through Buffy as she watched them.

“Hey B,” Faith said, from the floor. “How was work?”

“Boring but I see you two had fun,” Buffy said, looking at Spike.

“We were sparring and just having friendly conversation,” Spike said.

“Really?” Buffy asked. “I asked you to take it easy.”

“I’m fine,” Spike said, before snorting with laughter along with Faith.

“What are you laughing at?” Buffy asked.

“Nothing that would be of interest to you, Pet,” he said, getting off the floor, and offering his hand to Faith.

Faith took it and he pulled her up.

“Well how would you know?” Buffy asked, anger seeping in.

“Just trust me,” Spike said.

“Well, I’ll let you guys get back to talking about whatever,” she muttered, going back upstairs.

“Is she okay?” Faith asked.

“I think something happened at work,” Spike said, going upstairs, with Faith close behind.

Buffy was in the kitchen cleaning up.

“Buffy?” Spike asked.

“What?” She asked, trying not to sound mad at him.

“You okay?” Spike asked, as Faith went out for a smoke.

“I’m fine,” Buffy said, putting dirty dishes in the sink.

“You don’t look fine,” Spike said, softly.

“Just leave me alone,” Buffy said.

Spike went over and turned the water off. “You’re not fine,” he said, concerned.

“Spike, just drop it,” Buffy said, walking toward the doorway.

Spike went after her and grabbed her arm. “Buffy, wait…” He was cut off when she slapped
him across the face.

Spike released, emotionally hurt by her gesture.

Buffy ran upstairs but Spike saw the tears in her eyes.

He went up after her and heard heart wrenching sobs from her room. “Buffy?”

“Go away!” Buffy screamed, through her tears.

Spike tried the door and gently pushed it open when it was unlocked. “What did I do?”

“Nothing no one else hasn’t done to me in the past,” Buffy said, burying her face in the pillow Spike has used the night before.

“Then why’d you slap me?” Spike asked.

“Just go away,” Buffy whispered, turning away from him.

“Buffy please talk to me,” Spike said, going toward the bed.

“Spike, I want to be alone,” she said, softly.

“But I obviously did something to you,” he said, sitting next to her.

“What part of go away don’t you understand?!” Buffy growled, getting up to leave the room.

Spike ran out of the house after her, thankful the sun had set. “Buffy!”

Buffy ignored him and kept running.

“Buffy!” Spike screamed.

Buffy kept running even though her legs were numb. Tears were streaming down her face but she didn’t care.

Spike put on a burst of speed and leaped over a few gravestones and landed in front of her. “Please stop,” he said, panting unnecessarily.

Buffy began to run again, but Spike wrapped his arms around her from behind. “Stop and talk to me,” he said, resting his head on her shoulder to avoid her smashing her skull into his.

Buffy’s knees buckled and they crumbled to the ground and she sobbed.

Spike shifted so he could hold her properly. “Tell me what’s wrong.”

Buffy tried to raise her arms to push Spike away but he hugged her tightly.

With her arms pinned against his chest, Buffy could only shake in his arms. “Please, let me
go,” she whimpered.

“Not until you tell me what happened,” Spike said, rubbing circles in her back.

“It’s not fair!” Buffy wailed into his shirt. “Every guy that’s been important to me except Giles has been affected by Faith,” she whimpered. “I thought she’d mean nothing to you but obviously I was wrong.”

Spike pushed her away a little which was a mistake because she used her slayer strength to shove him away.

Once she was free of his arms, she took off running again.

Spike shot to his feet and ran after her. “Buffy!”

He caught up to her quickly but only to receive her first.

Buffy pulled a stake out and held it up.

Spike paused. “Buffy, please don’t be like this,” he pleaded.

“I just wanna get away from you,” she said, walking away from him.

Spike acted and pounce on her. He knocked the stake from her hand and trapped her beneath him. “I know you want to get away from me, but I wanna talk to you.”

Buffy relaxed slightly. “Spike, you’re hurting me,” she said, gently.

“If I loosen, do you promise not to try and run?” Spike asked.

Buffy nodded and Spike loosened his grip. Buffy pushed herself up a little to turn underneath him. “Why wont you let me go?”

“Cuz you’re upset and I’m sorry for whatever I did,” he said, sincerely.

Buffy closed her eyes as a few tears slid from her eyes. “Do you like Faith?”

Spike pulled back a lot from her. “As a friend,” he said, softly.

“You guys were all with the flirtiness and you pretty much blew me off,” she said, opening her
eyes.

Spike got off her and pulled her to her feet. “Buffy, I didn’t realize that’s why you were upset. I didn’t mean to hurt you,” he said. “I didn’t think it would bother you.”

“Well it does,” Buffy said, wrapping her arms around herself.

Spike’s eyes filled with guilt. “I’m sorry,” he said, softly. “Let’s go home okay?”

Buffy nodded and smiled when Spike wrapped an arm around her shoulders. “I didn’t mean to punch you. Instinct.”

“I know,” Spike said. “I’m gunna need to get lots of rest tonight.”

“You can stay in my room,” she said, as they came into her house. “I don’t mind.”

Spike smiled. “I really am sorry you got the wrong impression about me and Faith,” he said.

“I shouldn’t have made assumptions though. It’s not like anyone would think we were more the friends. Faith would be no exception,” she said. “Go get some sleep. I’ll be up in a minute.”

Spike did as he was told as Buffy went looking for Faith.

She found her easily and leaned against the doorway as Faith drank a soda. “Hey B,” she said.

“I wanted to talk to you about Spike,” Buffy said. “I don’t want you guys being more then friends.”

“He’s not my type,” Faith said. “So you don’t have to worry.”

Buffy smiled. “I’m going to bed,” she said, going upstairs.

Dawn has once again climbed in her bed and snuggled up against Spike.

Buffy smiled and slid behind Spike. She pressed herself up against him and threw her arm over his waist. She rested her face against his neck and gave it a light kiss before falling asleep.
