“I should have known you’d all be in here”, Cordelia walked into the library.
Willow, Oz, and Xander looked up for a second and then turned back to their work.
“I hope you’re ready for Friday night?”, Cordelia looked at Xander.
“What’s happening on Friday night?”, Buffy asked as she walked out of the office with Giles.
“I can’t believe you just asked that”, Cordelia said, exasperated. “Friday night is only the most important night of the year. It’s the Spring Formal”.
“Oh, yeah”, Willow said. “Are we going?”
“Of course we’re going. All the cool people will be there”, Cordy smiled. “So I guess it doesn’t really matter if you’re there or not”.
“Well, I think we should go”, Oz looked at Willow.
“Yeah, it’ll be fun. We can get all dressed up and everything”, Willow looked at the rest of them for their support.
“I agree”, Buffy said. “We all deserve a night out”.
“As long as there’s no vampires and demons...”, Xander stopped suddenly as he looked at the girls.
“Xander”, Willow yelled at him.
“What?”
“I can’t believe you just said that”, Cordy slapped him hard on his arm.
“What? What did I do?” Xander looked at Oz for some answers but all Oz could do was shrug.
“You don’t say ‘as long as there’s no demons...’, you’ve just jinxed it”, Buffy explained as she grabbed her bag and walked to the door, followed by the two girls who looked angrily at Xander.
“I didn’t mean to”, Xander sat down. Giles smiled and patted him sympathetically on the back.
The library door opened and Nikki walked over to them. Giles smiled when she walked in.
“What’s with those three”, Nikki gestured to the library doors.
“Don’t ask”, Xander dropped his head on the table with a loud bang. “Ouch, that hurt”.
“Okay”, she looked at Giles who just rolled his eyes. “Listen Giles. I just thought I’d let you know that I’ll be going to Angels after school so I won’t be back ‘till late”.
“Oh”, Giles tried to hide the disappointment in his voice. “Are you sure you’ll be safe on your own”.
“Don’t worry. I have protection”, she smiled and pulled out a cross and a stake. “Coming to class”, she looked at Xander and Oz, who reluctantly got up and left the library.
Giles went back to his book. He was researching a ritual in which the blood of a chosen human could bring forth the spirit of pure evil. In essence bringing forth the end of the world. The details of the ritual were sketchy at best so he didn’t want to mention it to Buffy until he had more facts.
