*****Chapter One - Meet The Gang*****
The gang of bikers rode their bikes down Cordelia’s street yelling and jeering, until they came to a stop outside her house. She jumped off of the back of Pierces bike and waited beside him for a moment, he realised that she wanted him to walk her to her door. He obliged and took her arm, leading towards her front door. They said goodnight to each other, and then he surprised her by kissing her, she opened the door to go in, but he grabbed her for another kiss. She smiled and laughed at him.
‘Pierce, I really have to go now, or I’ll wake everyone up!’ He ignored her and kissed her again, then the gang began revving up their engines impatiently.
‘Alright guys.’ He called. ‘So, same time tomorrow night? I’ll pick you up.’
‘Sure.’ She said, smiling happily. He kissed her again.
‘Go on.’ She said, going into the door and pushing him away.
‘You’re a hard woman Cordelia Chase.’
‘I know, now go.’ A light came on inside the house and her mother’s voice called ‘Cordelia? Is that you? Where have you been, do you know what time it is?’
‘Coming mom.’ She called back. Jeez, come home for a weekend and it’s like I’m sixteen again she shouted inwardly. She looked at Pierce, he shrugged and kissed her quickly, then ran down to his bike. The gang rode off loudly.
**********
The gang gathered in their motel room as dawn approached, they all sat round waiting for their missing member when he suddenly arrived. He burst through the door holding a young girl by the neck; she looked scared and was begging for her life. The leader of the group stood up and walked towards them.
Their leader was strangely pale…he wore make up, pale-almost white-foundation, black lipstick and thick black eyeliner. He looked a lot like the Crow with his shoulder length, greasy black hair and long black robes. He was truly scary. His eyes were the worst the girl had ever seen…they were evil, when they stared at you, pure evil. But you couldn’t really tell if he was staring at you or through you as one of his eyes was missing; it was replaced by a glass eye that had an eerie white patch in place of the pupil.
‘Nice work Stick, now we can feed.’ He took the girl by the neck and turned her to face everyone in turn.
The first person she saw was a medium height male, with the same hairstyle as the leader. He had very dark hooded eyes and no smile. He wore a grubby and faded leather jacket with dark combat pants and a pair of snakeskin cowboy boots. He looked like the sort of guy who’d wear a cowboy hat and say ‘Yeehah!’ but in an evil way.
‘This,’ said the leader, pointing to the man. ‘Is Stick, you’ll remember him as the man who hunted you.’
The girl whimpered as the leader pulled her neck and turned her round again. She came face to face with a woman…not exactly face to face as the woman was quite short. This woman also wore over the top eyeliner and dark, blood red lipstick. Her hair was also red, but much brighter than the colour of blood…and it was long, long and thick. She wore a long, loose black skirt and a tight black and red corset with a pair of patent leather, stiletto heeled boots. She was a Goth…the girl thought that perhaps she was a witch too…but either way she was scary.
‘Her names Sly.’ The leader said. ‘But don’t worry, she won’t hurt you…yet.’ He laughed briefly and the girl cried, before he pulled her roughly around again to see another man.
This man was very tall, taller than anyone else in the room, but he seemed the least threatening. He was thin and wore a very old leather jacket and black leather pants with matching boots. His hair was brown and wasn’t dyed as far as she could tell, and he wore no make-up…he didn’t even appear to be pale like the others. But the fact that he was so different to the rest of them made him seem even more menacing.
‘He’s Harpoon…but he prefers Harp, not that it’ll matter to you when you’re dead.’ The girl was really crying now, sobbing loudly. In the corner Pierce turned away from the scene, knowing what was going to happen to the girl. He couldn’t bring himself to watch.
The next man that came into view was about the same height as Stick, but looked a lot like the leader. She wondered briefly if he had a glass eye too… This man wore sunglasses to hide his eyes, and had the same black lipstick as the leader. His face held no expression, no hate…but no love either. He wore an open leather jacket with no shirt, loose leather trousers and thick leather boots. He looked a lot like a typical biker.
‘That’s my brother Slasher.’ The leader said proudly. ‘He’s my right hand man. He gets a guaranteed share in everything.’ He ran his hand gently down the side of her neck and looked at her with his one hungry eye. She struggled then, only to be gripped tighter and kicked in the stomach by an unknown force. When she looked around to see who had kicked her, her eyes met a cold scowl.
It was another woman who was now glaring at her coldly from over the top of a pair of shades. The woman snarled and took a step back as the leader squeezed the girl’s neck tighter. This woman also had red hair, but hers was blood red. As was her lipstick. She was slightly shorter than Stick and wore a leather jacket like his, and boots like Sly’s. She also wore a long skirt made of black lace and red silk…almost like a gypsy skirt…but she too was a Goth.
‘That’s Slash’s girl, Barb. She got that nickname from what she used to do to people with barbed wire…but I guess you don’t wanna hear about that right now do ya?’ One of the guys whooped loudly in the background and Barb smiled slyly.
The girl shook her head weakly and cried again as he turned her round once more. He didn’t mention the barbed wire again…was this kindness on his part? Or just another part of this cruel game of introductions and death threats? She began to panic….was he going to kill her or not? And if he did….would he do it slowly?
She came face to face with another woman, this one had a kinder face. But at the moment she was pouting…a childish expression, like she wanted to play with the girl too but the leader wouldn’t allow it. She was taller than the other two women, but not quite as tall as Stick…and she was thin, very thin. Her face was pale, but not as pale as the leaders. She wore less obvious eyeliner and dark black lipstick. She wore a long, tight black skirt with a split up to the hip on both sides. Underneath she wore fish net pantyhose and knee high boots, like the other women’s; she also wore a tight, black lace blouse that was almost see through. But her hair was the most strange. It was an off white colour, pulled back into a spiky ponytail and tied by what seemed to be more of her hair, but black this time; black and spiky.
‘This is Quill…our youngest member.’ He smiled at Quill, causing her to scowl. A silent exchange passed between them, they stared at each other for a moment before Quill turned away, the loser of the wordless battle. His grip on the girls neck relaxed, maybe it was over…maybe he’d let her go. She readied herself to run as soon as he released her, hoping she’d make it to the door before he could grab her again…but he never gave her the chance.
‘And finally!’ He yelled, pulling her roughly around, almost breaking her neck. She screamed and lost her footing. He let go of her and she fell forward into the arms of the last gang member. She expected to be kicked, or punched…maybe even stabbed when he grabbed her. But he did nothing to her…in fact he helped her to her feet and cradled her protectively in his arms as she cried.
‘This wet lookin’ wuss is Pierce.’ At the mention of his name Pierce looked up at his leader, unafraid to stare directly into the strange pair of eyes. ‘But none of that matters really…I just like getting’ you as scared as possible before you die.’ Suddenly the leaders face changed…and he was uglier, his eyes had changed too, they were yellow, almost cat like and he had fangs. Long, sharp, white fangs.
‘What’s your name little one?’ He asked in a soothing voice…but the voice still contained an element of evil.
‘Mindy.’ The girl whined into Pierce’s shoulder.
‘Well, I’m Blade.’ He growled. ‘You should remember my name, because when you get to heaven you can tell the Angels at the gate the name of the demon that killed you.’ He grabbed the girl roughly from Pierce’s arms and sunk his fangs into her neck, relishing his first taste of her fresh blood.
Pierce tried to stop him, but Harp pushed him aside as the others rushes forward to get their share, Quill hung back for a second and gave Pierce an unsure glance, then she ran and shut herself in the bathroom. The girl began screaming…she wasn’t dead yet, she could still feel the pain as they drained her.
Pierce stayed slumped in the corner where Harp had pushed him; he looked disgusted by the ravenous feeding frenzy that was taking place in front of him. He couldn’t keep listening to the girl screaming. He stood up and strode towards the door, as he passed Blade he turned to him angrily.
‘You said no more killing.’ He spoke harshly to his leader. Blade faced him with blood pouring from his mouth.
‘No, I said I wouldn’t kill anyone you wanted, like that Cordelia chick.’ Pierce made an attempt to walk away but Blade grabbed his arm and pulled him closer. They were face to face and Blade’s fangs almost dripped blood as he spoke.
‘It’s a hard world Pierce, you know that. I was born the hunter and she’ he pointed to the girl, who was now on the brink of death ‘was born as the prey.’ He laughed and turned back to the girl to continue feeding.
Pierce heard the girl take her last breath. He closed his eyes for a moment, full of pity for the girl’s soul, then he left, slamming the door behind him; Blade just laughed.
**********
Eli was strolling down the street, wondering what he could practise his wizardry skills on next when he saw what looked like a lighted fire in the cemetery; he walked towards it to investigate. He wondered if perhaps Buffy was on patrol and thought that the chilled night air was just too chilled.
Inside the cemetery Pierce heard footsteps approaching and ducked behind a large gravestone, leaving his small campfire unattended. He watched Eli approach. Eli looked around for people. Seeing no one around he decided that he’d found the perfect place to practise. He began to wave his hands over the fire; the flames rose and shrunk as he commanded. He was deep in concentration over his magic when Pierce stepped out behind him and spoke.
‘So, you finally made it to a hand wizard.’ Eli turned round and smiled, recognising the voice instantly.
‘Pierce? What are you doing here?’ He said, giving him a friendly hug. Then his face changed slightly, a sadness overtaking it. ‘I thought you were dead, I thought they’d kill you…like the others…after you told me…’ His voice drifted off.
‘Blade wanted to kill me, but Quill stopped him, you know he always had a soft spot for her…after everything. So, here I am.’ He smiled uncomfortably and put his hands in his pockets.
‘Are they here too?’ He asked quietly and turned back to the fire.
‘Yeah, they are…they’re still feeding, they promised me that they wouldn’t, but they have.’ He shuddered as he remembered the look on the frightened girls face, and the sound of her screams. ‘I don’t know what sort of life you have here, but take my advice for once. Leave Sunnydale Eli; take your sisters and leave. If they find you, they’ll kill you…like they killed Caleb.’ Eli stood for a moment in silent thought.
‘But…’ He turned round and Pierce was gone.
**********
In the library early the next morning, Giles and Oz were in deep conversation about werewolves, while Willow and Cordelia were talking about the guy Cordy had met the night before. They had kept the library as their meeting place for discussing vampires until they found somewhere more appropriate. They usually met there before classes in the morning, and during any free time they had.
Buffy and Xander stormed in and sat down. Buffy dumped a newspaper on the desk in front of her, she hadn’t bothered reading it. She didn’t notice the cover story on the young murder victim… ‘Fifteen year old Mindy Shaw was found brutally butchered early this morning after failing to return home last night. A fellow Sunnydale high student found her body near local club the Bronze and raised the alarm, police are still questioning her friends…’
‘Giles, your not gonna like this, but there’s some seriously weird vampire activity going on. Last night there was this guy dressed in leather chasing this girl, they ran right past me and he totally ignored me.’
‘Tragic I’m sure.’ Said Giles sarcastically, sipping his tea.
‘Oh come on Giles, I’m not that selfish, but I am the slayer. I mean, vampires just don’t ignore a slayer, they don’t just walk past me…they try and kill me.’ She said.
‘Sometimes, don’t you just feel that the whole world is out to get you?’ Xander mused.
‘Quit it you guys, I’m serious, Xander you were there too, and he didn’t even try it.’ She stood up to make her point.
‘That’s cuz I’m a tough guy.’ He grinned and Buffy slapped him gently on the arm. ‘Ow, fiesty lady.’ He said.
Buffy gave up and sat down. ‘I guess no-ones serious today then huh? Well, if the world explodes don’t blame me.’
‘Hey, isn’t that what the Diplodocus said to the other dinosaurs the day before the big bang when they wouldn’t turn vegetarian.’ No one laughed. ‘Wow, I’m on form today. Even less than one person laughed.’ Said Xander. ‘New Record.’ Buffy sighed.
‘Buffy, just one thing, why didn’t you save the girl?’ Asked Giles.
‘Oh, Buffy was in the jaws of death at the time.’ Xander said lightly.
‘Yeah, I was pulling this really big guy off Xander, while Mr.Tough-Guy was whining like a baby.’
‘Hey, I was whining like a strong and manly baby...baby.’ Said Xander defensively.
‘Hey guys, guess what?’ Said Willow, finally joining the conversation. ‘Cordelia has a new boyfriend.’
‘Damn shame, I’d kinda hoped she was pining for me.’ Said Xander, smiling.
‘Can you guys not talk about me like I’m not even here?’ Said Cordelia, a little put out.
‘Sorry, so, who’s this guy, what’s he like?’ Asked Buffy, enthusiastically.
‘I met him in the coffee shop last night, his names Pierce, he’s so sweet and totally gorgeous, and he rides a motorcycle…in a gang.’ Willow, Buffy and Cordelia squealed with excitement and gathered together in an excited whisper.
Xander leaned over towards Oz and Giles and said ‘Wow, all in one breath too.’ Then louder ‘ Hey guys, I’ve got an 11 o’clock; but don’t forget, we’re meeting at the Bronze tonight…make sure that there’s a beautiful woman by my side at all times.’ He struck what they could only assume was a Elvis-ish pose and walked out. Oz rolled his eyes.
**********
In the gangs motel room Harpoon was talking to Blade quietly, away from the rest of the gang.
‘Last night, while I was out, I saw someone you might like to settle an old score with.’
‘Really, do tell.’ Said Blade slimily.
‘Oh, just a certain wizard that tried to kill you a few years back.’
‘Eli.’ Blade said, as his eyes lit up (well, one of them did anyway). He smiled wickedly. ‘Maybe we should arrange to meet up again, we’ve got lots to talk about.’ He and Harpoon shared a sadistic laugh. Quill looked over at them…she thought she’d heard Eli’s name mentioned…but she couldn’t be sure. She wondered what they were plotting.
**********
That night Pierce rode on his bike to Cordelia’s house to pick her up for their second date at the park
‘Your carriage awaits.’ He said as he led her towards the bike.
‘Thankyou.’ She took his arm and allowed herself to be led. ‘Where are we going tonight?’
‘Oh, just the park…for a very romantic evening under the stars.’ She smiled and climbed onto the back of his bike and they sped off down the street.
**********
At the library Willow, Oz and Giles were gathered, flicking through a few books. Suddenly Eli burst in looking frantic.
‘Has anyone seen Eve or Esme?’
‘No, they haven’t been here, why?’ Said Willow
‘Doesn’t matter, but if you see them, tell them…just tell them I need to find them urgently. I’ll be back soon.’
‘Okay. Eli…’ Willow began to say, but it was too late, he was gone. Willow looked at Oz and Giles shrugged.
**********
Buffy and Xander were walking down an alley, on the trail of a female vampire. Inside the alley they lost sight of her. Suddenly she jumped out from behind a trashcan, and after a slightly strenuous battle, Buffy managed to stake her. The rattling of the knocked over trashcans disturbed two other vampires who were following a young girl down the street and past the alley entrance. They stopped and looked to see what the noise was, wearing their game faces in case of a confrontation; Buffy saw them so she and Xander gave chase.
**********
Pierce had dropped Cordelia back at her house after their date and set off on his bike, he turned the corner of the street. The two vampires from the alley, Harpoon and Sly, saw him; in a desperate panic they pushed him off of his bike and stole it. Buffy and Xander came to a stop, knowing that they couldn’t keep up. Pierce got to his feet and dusted himself off, he noticed Buffy and Xander heading towards him with concerned expressions on their faces, but he turned and ran.
‘Wait! Are you okay?’ Buffy called, but he had gone. Defeated, Buffy and Xander headed back to the library.
**********
‘Giles, you’ve got to believe me this time…there are some weird vampires around…they look like bikers, and they don’t attack me…they just run.’ Said Buffy.
‘Yeah, it looks like they only feed on young girls…they haven’t gone for me, and they pushed this guy off his bike when they could’ve eaten him…they had time.’ Added Xander.
Cordelia walked in on the conversation, followed by Eve and Esme. Willow breathed a sigh of relief to see the two sisters.
‘Where have you guys been, Eli’s been looking for you…he says it’s important.’ She said.
‘Oh, well we haven’t seen him all day. The strangest thing happened. We went out for a walk last night, and got lost…then the sun started to come up so we ducked into the nearest house for the day…’ Said Esme.
‘…Yeah, imagine my surprise to come home tonight and discover them in my basement.’ Said Cordelia.
**********
In the cemetery Eli was running round calling for Esme and Eve. “Trust them to go missing at a time like this! “ He thought as he ran towards the gates.
Out in the streets Pierce ran along the street and found his bike, the others had discarded it after their escape. He jumped onto it and revved the engine, thankful that it still ran.
He rode past the cemetery when he saw Eli at the gates. He stopped beside him, wondering why he was still in Sunnydale. ‘I thought I told you to get out of town, what are you still doing here?’
‘I can’t find my sisters, I’m getting worried…’ Then he looked over Pierces shoulder and noticed Harpoon heading across the street towards them.
‘We’ve got to get out of here!’ Yelled Pierce. ‘They’re after you, get on!’ Eli jumped on the bike and they rode off down the street.
‘Where to?’ Asked Pierce as he drove.
‘The school library, we can get help their…take the next left.’ Pierce did as he was instructed and they headed for the sanctuary of the library.
