Giles was awoken from a deep sleep by a loud noise coming from downstairs. He fumbled for a light and then put his glasses on. He realised that the loud noise was somebody knocking on the door. He pulled on a pair of trousers and a shirt and headed down the stairs.
He opened the door to face Buffy and Angel holding a badly hurt girl between them.
"Hi Giles", Buffy smiled. "Busy".
He opened the door wider to let the three of them in. They went into the sitting room where Angel gently put the girl on the couch. Giles recognised the girl from the library earlier that day, the new student from Ireland, although at this moment she was barely recognisable.
"What happened.....or need I ask", Giles inquired as he came back from the bathroom with the first aid kit.
"The usual. Vampire attack. Caught us by surprise. Luckily Angel came along and gave us a hand", Buffy quickly explained the events as Angel tried to clean Nikki's cuts and bruises.
"So", Buffy sat beside Angel, once he's finished cleaning up Nikki. "Nikki obviously isn't a vampire so how are you two related?"
"What?", Giles was shocked. "You and Angel are related", he looked at Nikki. Nikki just nodded and smiled, feeling to weak and tired to explain anything.
"Well", Angel smiled. "We're not really relatives, more like ancestors".
"Ancestors", Buffy and Giles looked at each other and then at Nikki and Angel.
"Well, Nikki's family originally come from Galway, where I'm from and, well, to make a long story short, her family and mine are distant relations through marriage. Once I got my soul back Nikki's great-grandmother, who had been tracking me, contacted me and I've been writing to each generation for around eighty years".
Neither Giles or Buffy knew what to say to this news. Angel was know for keeping his secrets but this one was major. And Angel had once told her that he's killed his whole family. Buffy made a mental note to ask him about that later.
"Well, um, Mr Giles", Nikki suddenly interrupted the silence. "Would it be okay if I used you bathroom".
"Oh, of course", Giles smiled at the girl. "It's at the top of the stairs on your right".
Nikki tried to stand up but her legs weren't listening. She made one more attempt and managed to stand up for a second only to fall into Angels arms.
"Nikki", Angel looked at her with concern. Nikki tried to move but the room was spinning and her head was thumping. The last thing she heard was Angels voice before she blacked out.
